Not wowing me, but maybe it’s time for change.
It took, what, 75 years, but it seems as though Supes has finally figured out that underpants are worn *underneath *your pants. About time.
Yeah, i’m calling fail on all of these.
The Supergirl one is kinda decent, but where’s the miniskirt?
They’re not very good images to showcase the designs.
Not that I’ve ever been a fan of superhero art.
100% New Coke.
Pass.
Ditching the underpants-outside-of-tights look is a bad idea, but not nearly as bad as the evil red glowing eyes.
And are Supergirl’s legs always that long?
I dunno. His eyes have glowed whenever he was using his heat vision for years now.
The relationship between real human female anatomy and comic-book superheroine anatomy is always casual.
The “holding up the globe” one is some of the worst comics art I’ve ever seen.
Rob Liefeld has committed far greater graphic atrocites.
Superman is fine, not great. The belt instead of the briefs is not a bad idea, as they clearly want to keep the changes subtle. The weird boots, not so much, but that’s well within the bounds of an artist’s quirks for any non-Superman character.
A T-Shirt AND a cape? The hell? That’s like wearing a tuxedo jacket and cummerbund over sweats. Either you’re in formal superhero attire, or casual superhero attire. Both at once makes you look drunk. Very drunk.
The new Supergirl is kinda awful. Longsleeved legless leotard is Power Girl’s shtick. Ignoring that, what’s that . . . thing? over her crotch? It’s shaped EXACTLY LIKE THE SUPER SYMBOL. That’s just freaking weird. And while I generally prove of those super high they-would-be-dominatrix-spikes-if-they-were-heels-but-surprise-they’re-flats! boots in real life, but not in bright red. If you want to lose the skirt, just go with a blue bodysuit with the symbol on her chest, and maybe tone the boots down a bit.

“You’re complaining about the boots? You fight crime in high heels!”
“High heels that fit.”
We would need a whole parallel universe of nothing but ass to provide as much ass as those costumes want to suck.
The first one makes no sense at all. The rest look good, but I don’t see what the hype is. They still basically look the same. But that’s also a good indication that they intend the change to be permanent.
Supergirl’s boots look… just stupid. Almost thigh high, but with knee holes…
Yeah, can’t say I’m a big fan of Supergirl losing the miniskirt and bare midriff.
I’m not sure that’s a cape. I mean, maybe he just tossed a red towel over his shoulder.
OK, while he’s actually using heat vision. But the red eyes are in all three of those shots, and it doesn’t look like he’s zapping in any of them.
Take your facts back to Wales where they belong.
If that’s going to be the default look for him, I can only assume that (a) he has no secret identity, or (b) Clark’s glasses somehow hide the effect. I would also assume that they’re abandoning the idea that he’s earth’s most beloved and trusted hero (which seems indicated the link anyway). It’s been noted even in universe that Superman is so trusted because he wears no mask and looks like an ordinary (if handsomer and more muscular than usual) white guy. I think it was Wonder Woman who pointed that out, as she benefits from the same effect. The constant red eyes would be a bad idea, I agree.
I’m ambivalent (not that it matters, as I don’t buy single-issue comics any more). I like the Kal who’s extremely trusted, both because he looks normal and because he’s (basically) earned it. Though one could argue that the idea that he pretends not to have a secret identity is more dishonest than what Bruce & Barry do.
I’ve always hated the bare midriff and micro-mini, because I couldn’t buy that Martha Kent would design or make such a costume. It takes me out of the story even more than Wonder Woman’s stripperific costume, because at least it makes sense that the Amazons have very different standards of propriety and that Wondy doesn’t give a good goddamn about conforming.
I’m not entirely certain Martha Kent made SG’s current costume. And SG is a teenager; it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that she modified it herself.
The t-shirt & jeans looks is kinda hot. I like that. Maybe not all the time, but it’s cool.
The blue unitard look is okay I guess, as long as it’s a seamless unitard and not blue underpants over a matching blue unitard. The calves and boots are over-detailed, IMHO.
Supergirl is fine. I kind of like the gold trim on her cape.
Supergirl looks really bad. Adult diaper, ridiculous boots, no miniskirt or bare mid drift. I don’t think her costume needed any updating. Superman is an improvement though, apart from the metallic looking boots.
