The costume without the briefs is a terrible idea – illusory as it is, the briefs make it at least look like he’s wearing something over his crotch instead of the form-fitting spandex. Now it’s going to seem like Anthony Weiner’s out there leaping tall buildings with a single bound.
They had the same problem with Batman when I got back into comics 10-12 years ago – they got rid of the briefs for just gray spandex leggings, and then he just looked creepy, so they kept finding ways to keep his lower half obscured by shadows or desks or stuff.
From what Morrison has commented, the Superman in that outfit won’t be doing atmospheric re-entry. It’s not even clear if he’ll be flying, or just leaping buildings in a single bound.
He’ll be at Golden Age power levels: bullets will be a serious threat. It’s a Year One storyline.
Okay, I don’t follow comics at all, but I was reading this article about the reboot. It looks like there are four different Batman comics, plus he’s also in Justice League and Justice League International. How does that all work? Is it the same storyline across four comics, different time periods in each comic, or something else entirely?
I actually kind of like the jeans and t-shirt look, but the little towel-cape needs to go, and his eyes had better only glow when he’s actually burning something. Overall, I could buy it working with a more Golden Age version of Supes–more “Man of Steel” than “Man of Tomorrow”.
The holding-the-globe picture is horrific, but I don’t know how much to blame on the costume and how much on the proportions. I guess the belt is okay. I’ve always thought the briefs looked dumb, but I can kind of see Cliffy’s point about them in that image.
I think I like the new cape on Supergirl. The rest of the outfit, not so much. The diaper is really bad, and the boots are just weird.
The Harley outfit…I could see her doing that to try to catch J’s attention when he’s ignoring her, then looking crushed when he doesn’t notice it, and going back to her old look. I like cleavage and abbreviated shorts as much as the next guy, but it just doesn’t look right.
How it all works is like this: readers will buy comics with Wolverine in them, so they put Wolverine in every comic that they can.
In this case, I think Bruce Wayne Batman is in three titles – Batman, Batman & Robin, Detective Comics – and two JL titles. Batman, Inc. will resume next year, and he’ll be in that, too. As far as we know, they’re all in the same timeframe (unlike Action Comics and Superman).
Ironically, Morrison’s stuff in Batman, Inc. actually explained how Batman could be showing up everywhere and turn up in more than one ongoing… that explanation is being undone as part of this overall retcon/whatever.
No - it’s done that way sometimes, but currently, and at the time of the launch, no.
Possibly, but probably not - that’s what they’re doing with Superman (who’s only got two titles of his own, and in one JL), which could argue either way.
Most likely, he’s just a very, very busy bat.
(It’s also vaguely possible, there’s another Batman - that’s the current case.)
Also, I’m annoyed that they’re pulling a New X-Men on Morrison’s better updates to the Batman mythos, this time even before he had the chance to finish his storyline! I expect a swift reveal that Oberon Sexton wasn’t really who he was revealed to be, and instead his identical twin brother will show up to carry on.
Batman, Inc. is still in continuity. Dick Grayson is back to being Nightwing, and there is only one “Batman” (in Gotham).
Having two "Batman"s was an excellent explanation for why “Batman” could be fighting crime in Gotham and in the JLA and kiting around to random parts of the globe, all at the same time.
Three Batman, inc bits from the post relaunch stuff, not including the fact that the book itself will be coming back: 1) The African Batman introduced in the last couple issues (Batwing) is getting his own book. 2) Batman, inc is specifically mentioned in the solicits for Batman and Robin. (They’ve pissed off the antagonist of the first arc.) 3) The writer of Nightwing made an offhand mention in an interview about how Dick is better than he’s ever been, because he’s just recently stopped being Batman.
