New Television Season Coming Up (Should I Even Care?)

I only have a handful of shows that I’m even aware of that’s coming back and I have no idea what I should or shouldn’t be watching.

I’m a big sitcom guy but they keep canceling the shows I take a shine to (Happy Endings).

I know Brooklyn 99 is coming back, so that’s good. I’m utterly unfamiliar with what NBC is hanging its hat on without the Office and 30 Rock (I like Parks and Rec yet I don’t watch it… go figure…).

I watch Big Bang Theory out of habit. Anything else? Archer appears to be a January show…

I can’t remember the last time I saw a new episode of CSI:NY. I hope that is coming back.

Back when TV Guide was the small-format edition and before online cable guides were popular, their Fall Season Preview edition was something I always bought. So many new shows to choose from! Lots of promotion and pictures and screen shots and capsule reviews! It told you the best show for each time slot and for each hour, so you could plan your life around the best of television.

This year, I’ve heard nothing about any new shows.

I went through the list of new shows and only found four that looked interesting: The Flash, Forever, Gotham and Intruders. Not even sure if I’ll be able to watch all of those online; the only returning shows I’ll be watching are Elementary, Survivor, SHIELD, and Arrow. It looks like half of those don’t start until October, though.

Casey Wilson is returning in a sitcom on NBC called Marry Me. It premieres in October.

The final season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire debuts on 9/7. They’re jumping ahead all the way to 1931, so lots of gaunt Depression-era fun coming, plus Al Capone’s tax evasion trial. That also jumps past the [real-life] death of one of the major characters, Arnold Rothstein. I see he is still listed as being in the cast, so I presume there will be flashbacks, as they’ve generally kept straight to the death of major historical characters.

About the only new broadcast TV show I’m currently intrigued by is Fox’s Gotham.

When will we see a new Jeopardy!?

Not until September 15th I think. They are currently re-running the 2000’s Battle of the Decade, so next week (9/1-5) should be the reruns of the Battle of the Decade Quarterfinals and the following week (9/8-12) should be the semifinals/final.
