Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 88 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I shall take the old file cabinet up to the landfill this mornin’. That should take all of half an hour to do and count as today’s productivity. Beyond that I foresee much sloth, quality cee-mint pond time, nappage and general overall uselessness for the rest of the day. There’s chikin sallit and all kinds of sammich makin’s to take care of any need to feed today.
Nettie I reckon Buddy in the dryer makes it official that he has adopted y’all as his people.
sari sorry for all the mom crabbiness. Shall we cross appropriate/inappropriate appendages re the job app?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I shall make myself somewhat presentable, but not too presentable before goin’ to the landfill. I am pretty sure one does not need to be glamorous as general Wally*World attire would work for a landfill.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
I’m the opposite, sorta. I hold on to stuff, all the time wondering “When can I get rid of this crap??” Tho I must admit, I wish I’d held on to my first few tax returns - they’d be a source of amusement now.
When I get blood drawn, I’m nervous even about having water - yeah, I know - DUMB!! I actually need to be sure to drink a good bit since I’m such a tough stick. But it’s a juggling act between that and hoping the line at the lab isn’t too long so I’m not fighting my bladder while waiting. It’s so hard being me…
Maybe I’m a snob, but I’ve never had a good crab cake outside of Maryland. Mostly what I’ve encountered are soggy bread patties over which someone whispers “crab” - so wrong! A proper crab cake is backfin lump crab, egg, a little mayo, a little mustard, a little bread as a binder, and some Old Bay, mixed well, formed, and broiled or fried. Perfection!
No, the stuff that has to be done is all with their businesses/doctors in Ocala. Plus the last trip was really hard on FIL - his dementia seems to get worse when he’s off routine. On top of that, dragging them here would mean 4 trips on I-95 instead of just there and back. I’m planning to spend my time there doing deep cleaning for them - at least it’ll beat sitting around listening to the same stories over and over…
And at least they don’t get snippy with us. They can be frustrating and stubborn, but they are nice about it. I know you’re handling the situation the best you can and I’m sure your mom is struggling to deal. Hugs to you both!
My daughter’s cats discovered that there’s an access hole behind her dryer for the bathroom plumbing. No clue why it doesn’t have a cover, but she said one idiot cat got in there and she heard her under the tub! So now she has to keep the door to the laundry area closed. Neither she nor SIL are handy enough to make a proper cover, alas.
Storms forecast for later today, but we’ll be heading to the boat early - today’s big chore is to get rid of wire #46. It used to be for the VHF radio, but it was abandoned along the way and most of it is buried in a big bundle of wires. It’s driving FCD crazy, hence the need to remove it. But it should be a relative simple task - I’m pretty sure it goes into the circuit breaker box and I’m pretty sure I know what breaker it’s from. Oh, and I dug out a small submersible pump that we’ll be dropping into the water tanks to pump them out, since it’ll take too long just running the internal pump (which isn’t designed for continuous use anyway.) The submersible was used in an aquarium - all we need to do is hook a length of hose to its output and plug it it.
Once we get home, I’m going to build a couple of meatloaves and wrap and freeze the chicken I bought the other day. Yep, lots of fun ahead!!
Happy Saturday!!
My wife is also a crab cake snob. If she says it was good, then it met a pretty high standard.
I like your wife! She has good taste!
sari, I used to take Nelson to the big dog side, but he cops a Napoleon just often enough that I was afraid that someone would take offense and kick his butt. He gets along with big dogs for the most part, but they have to be willing to put up with his 'tude. Sorry about your mom’s snippiness. Illness doesn’t automatically turn folks into saints. Good luck on the job app.
nellie, I’m stunned that the guy would leave a deaf, collarless chihuahua alone outside. I’ve yet to go to a hardware that doesn’t allow dogs inside. Even stores that you wouldn’t expect don’t take issue with small, well behaved dogs inside. (Nelson loves to go to Lowe’s and Home Depot. The paint department ladies at HD absolutely spoil him with treats)
seanette, it looks like Buddy has found a warm, soft place to nap. He’s a handsome boy.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and have been to the dog park for a quick romp before it gets hot. Mornings there are mostly retirees with their puppers. They tend to be a pretty social group and spend more time there than those of us still in the workforce. If my dad lived locally, I could see him socializing at a dog park in addition to the coffee shop, barber shop and bar.
I need to gather up this month’s Goodwill donations and take them in today. Before I leave, I’ll pull some cards out for the folks that I send them to monthly (most of the folks are in a nursing home or are somewhat homebound and I usually send a couple to folks who I’m thinking of. I think we all like to get mail that isn’t junk or bills.)
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Morning all. Clear day and getting to 95F, so a day of sloth is likely (albeit I will try to get my remaining swimmin’ in at the gym).
{{Sari}}, I hope things settle down family-wise. The last words I ever spoke to my Mom were somewhat harsh, she had almost driven my Dad to tears and I was upset with her, but she was ill and I never saw her again…still have regrets about that. And interesting about Ripple, maybe he had a bad experience there?
Nettie, looks like Buddy has chosen his home. Just be sure to look twice before starting the dryer…
doggio, I guess stuff happens when you are on the job…
OK, need to be considering breaking fast, no Crab Cakes however (not a seafood eater). All y’all have a good Sattiday.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 61 degrees and with a bit of cloud cover. The expected high is 75 with cloudy to partly cloudy skies.
Yesterday, unfortunately, was not really a day of rest for me. I kept going upstairs to check on the status of the quote and contract finalization process and nada. I talked to the contracting officer who was also freaked out and pretty much near tears because she knew what that meant for me and it wasn’t good. Just before four she texted me as I was heading back upstairs to check. Turns out, the person we are working with had sent the required stuff via Adobe in the morning, but the contracting officer never received the stuff. So he texted her. So, cue frantic budget analyst search for fund certification. I found one, finally who was available, but it was a bit of an ordeal. Also during the day, I talked to my boss about my time card certification and approval for extra hours since it was an off day. At any rate, at 6:30, when I was trying to certify my time card, I kept getting errors, so now I need to talk to her very first thing Monday morning and get some help because I can’t push it through the system. Normally, I would just remove the offending hours and submit a normal timecard, but damn it, I’m sick of working extra hours and not claiming them.
Sari, I’m sorry your mother was so nasty to you.
Bailey is a cutie! Happy belated birthday!
Buddy is also a cutie and that picture makes him look like he’s surveying his kingdom from on high.
I found out temps will be around 98 degrees in Wenatchee next week. Additionally, that county is now high COVID (red) transmission rate so I will have to wear a mask in the office and all indoor places. I will be miserable enough doing that but think of those poor movers having to schlep all that stuff, plus tear down cubicle furniture. That’s going to be freakin’ miserable for them!
I need to go to the mall today and find summer blouses that cover the shoulders but are not three-quarter or long sleeves. I don’t really have much in the way of summer tops that are appropriate for the office anymore, especially since I’ve packed all this weight on. So, I need to find some tops. Also, what is the deal with big gaping armholes that expose your bra? Jesus, I hate that.
Okay, I need to get another cup of coffee. I slept in until 5:45 today. I was awake at 4:00, but kept trying to sleep and finally gave up.
I hope you all have a terrific day.
Amazon, baby!
Back to irk today after a kinda-sorta 3-day weekend. I called in sick Wednesday for my doctor visit, which took half the day and wasn’t fun, so I don’t really consider that a day off. But technically, I didn’t irk.
I almost never call in sick, and I tend to feel guilty when I do. I know I shouldn’t; I’ve been on the other end of the equation enough times. Most of my cow-orkers make a habit of taking “sick of working” days. A week ago today, of seven employees on the schedule, three were out sick. It gets damn annoying sometimes.
Read all, retained some. Hugs, yays, boos, crossed appendages, etc. as appropriate. Have a great Sattiday!
I leave tomorrow, so Amazon isn’t really going to help today. I looked. Also, buying tops on Amazon is a gamble. The sizing is always off.
Mornin’ all. I have multiple tasks to do today before I can start the sloth. I need to go to BB&B to look for cutting boards, then to the reclaimed building materials place. I want to find a nice piece of ceiling tin to make an art thingy on. Then to the grocery sto and the booze sto. Then I need to hack back the walnut trees that have sprung up all around the house. Those suckers grow fast. The new one under the bird feeder is 4’ tall, and it didn’t even exist before this spring.
Read all, retained little. But I do like reading about all y’all’s doings. Stay safe everyone!
Plumbing work today. Our water tanks were full of black gunk. They’ll be clean soon, I hope. We’ll need to flush the whole system. Yeah, boats is fun…
I’ve heard boats called “a hole in the water you throw money into”.
Since DH has a bit of “kid with new toy” going on with the rental Jeep, we’re probably headed on a bit of a drive today, such as a Ghirardelli outlet about an hour from here (depends on traffic), and returning recycling, since the recycle place we go to has an area near it DH thinks would be fun in a 4WD.
Buddy is a very handsome young man. Regal even.
I’m not sure what today will bring. Roast chicken dinner and movies I think. The air is still smoky, which I guess we’ll just have to get used to.
Air here’s been good. Sorry I can’t share with you.
Yes, we’re aware of the need to be very careful about starting the dryer. Typical routine with laundry is to put wet stuff in an empty dryer, then start it right away. I doubt any furry occupant would tolerate having wet clothes tossed onto him without a huffy departure.
One time when I was little (early 70s, before answering machines were common in small rural towns), my mother had just loaded the top-loading washer when the phone rang. She went to answer it, then came back and started the washer. It yowled at her. She opened the lid fast and out shot a wet angry cat who’d climbed in when she wasn’t looking. The cat was fine and lived past my high school graduation in 1987.
Allie’s been known to hang out in the dryer, too, but neither cat seems interested in the washer as a nest, fortunately. Allie enjoys a basket of clean clothes, like most self-respecting cats who feel a need to make sure the humans are wearing sufficient cat hair. I don’t think Buddy’s noticed that one yet.
If Buddy gets to the clean clothes in the dryer, he doesn’t need to worry about trying to kick Allie out of the basket cause he’s already done his duty.
Happy birthday Bailey! What a sweet looking pup.
Currently ingesting a sundae at the Ghirardelli outlet in Lathrop, shopping to follow.
lucky you …
Bit of a spree, but it’ll hold us for quite a while.
The plunder also included an adorable teddy bear. No, I didn’t really NEED him, but he was just too cute to pass up. There will be a picture later.
