That sucks.
No, it’s just urban white noise.
That sucks.
No, it’s just urban white noise.
Another “fun” day of job hunting. Jeebus do I loathe and despise this crap.
VanGo, Holey Moley is one of my TV guilty pleasures. It’s a ton of fun. My BIL would be perfect for that show (he’s an avid golfer and quite a character) but for some reason he doesn’t want to apply.
Here in SF there’s an Indoor mini golf course connected to a restaurant and bar. It’s on our bucket list of places to visit before we move.
Love the bear, Nettie! Ghirardelli does make good chocolate. I’ve been to the big store at Ghirardelli Square, and to me it’s nothing special. Haven’t had one of their sundaes in years though.
Yesterday was quite busy at irk, so I expect today to be too. We already know we’ll be at least two people short. I’m supposed to drive the train, which will be fine with me no matter how busy it is, but we’ll see. If we don’t have enough staff the train doesn’t run.
Well, about time to do Wordle and then get my butt moving. Good day, all!
Well… There’s breakfast. The Missus requested scrambled eggs and bacon, which I made for her. She put the cheese on herself. I made a ham/cheese/jalapeño omelette and the other two rashers for myself.
Goo just saw a raccoon outside. Wifey says it went under the deck.
Happy birthday, Wheelz!
Thanks to everyone for the nice words about Bailey! I’ve had her since she was 3 months old. I always say that she’s a better dog than she should be, since I did very little training: she knows “sit” and one or two other things, but I never taught her “stay” or to come on command. She’s a really good girl, though, and very sweet. Like I said, neither of us looks our age but our bodies know the truth: she’s got some arthritis in her hips and some cloudiness in her eyes, and my near-term “to do” list includes making an appointment with a physical therapist to evaluate her pain levels (and determine the best treatment). I’m hoping for at least a couple more years with her, but at this point I’m also on the lookout for any signs that her quality of life is starting to diminish. She still plays with her food before she eats it (every. time.), so I think she’s mostly good at the moment.
Yesterday morning’s walking tour wasn’t quite what I expected, but it wound up being nice! I thought we’d see/learn more about the town in general, but it was really just a tour of the large lakeside plaza where the town’s small museum is. It was fine, and we went to parts of the plaza I’d never seen before (there are tons of “hidden” walking paths connecting various parts of the town). It was good to be outside for a while, much of the time there was a nice breeze coming off the lake, and afterwards my friends and I got a late brunch/early lunch at one of the plaza restaurants. I had a fruit bowl (five grapes and a bunch of strawberries) and a side of home fries, which was perfect for me. It was good to see those friends, and we made it back to our respective cars right before the skies opened.
I can’t believe I leave for my family reunion in just four days…my father has been planning it since March, and now a week from tomorrow I’ll be back home already! I think I’m all squared away in terms of logistics: Bailey’s kennel reservation is made, I’ve been in touch with the B&B about my arrival, I notified my credit union that I’ll be using my credit card in various parts of MD/NJ/NY, this morning I put a bunch of money on my EZPass for tolls, and my laundry is in progress. On Wednesday I’ll take Bailey to Dogtopia in the morning, and after work I’ll get the car washed and fill up the tank. Then I’ll pack, and make the final decisions about what food/drinks I want to take with me. I talked myself into buying a small electric cooler for the trip, which should be nice for both the car and my room (my only option at the B&B would be a community minifridge two floors up). I plan to hit the road at 8:00 on Thursday morning, and I should get to my aunt and uncle’s place in north Jersey by 12:30 – including a stop at a travel plaza on the way up. I’ll have lunch and a visit with them, and get back on the road by 3:30-4:00 for the 1-hour drive to the B&B (hoping to beat the worst of the northbound rush hour traffic). That’s as much of a plan as I have at the moment, until Sunday’s reunion (dad’s side), but I know that at some point I’ll get to see my cousins on my mom’s side. It’s helpful that both sides of the family live relatively close to each other.
I tried my “make your own coffee protein shake” thing this morning, and it worked! I wound up mixing an entire concentrated coffee pod into an 11 oz vanilla protein shake. It was tasty. Later today I’ll try it with a different shake brand that says its flavor is “French vanilla.” The pods are expensive, though, so if I decide to keep doing this I’ll need to find some “bulk” concentrated black coffee. A preliminary Amazon search turned up one or two possibilities; I’ll do a deeper dive this afternoon.
Time to put the laundry in the dryer, do my 1-mile treadmill walk, and then have some lunch. Happy Sunday, all – and, if I don’t get a chance to post in the new thread before I head north, have a great week!!
Turns out I get to drive the train all day! Not a bad way to spend my birthday.
I’m the only engineer, so I will definitely be tired tonight, but that’s OK. Just finished getting her fired up, and we start running in a half hour, so I have a few minutes to relax.
Happy Birthday, wheelz! Have fun on the train.
My big accomplishment was to get a new hummingbird feeder. The one I got at the start of the season sprung a leak. I was wondering how the hummies were emptying it so fast, then noticed a wet spot on the deck below it. So, new one got got, filled and hung.
Next up is an attempt at an italian beef roast on the webber kettle. Gonna set up one side low heat and stick it in a pan with broth and onions on the other side.
Some plant must have just begun pollening, I’m all sniffle-y today.
Happy Wheelie Day!!!
We’re home. We went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch and discussed returning to the marina to swim, but FCD decided he’d rather nap and I didn’t care one way or the other. So we’re home. I’m thinking recliner time with my tablet. Just chillage in general.
But we got the water system flushed and refilled. FCD got some measurements - he’s going to build a panel that will hold the pump, the filter, and the accumulator tank as a unit - that will make it easier to pop it in and out for maintenance and/or repair. But that’s a chore for another day.
Tomorrow, we’re taking the truck and bringing home the dinghy. It needs a lot of cosmetic work that will be lots easier to do in the shop. Not sure what else is on tomorrow’s agenda - we’re just glad to have the water system flushed and good to go. I don’t know what we’ll do when we get all these chores done…
Just popping in so you don’t think I ran off and joined the circus. Wait, you’d probably be thrilled if I joined the circus. I could get you all free tickets!
I’ve been very busy getting ready for the Chicago trip. Now I have to run to the pharmacy for an Rx. I’ve read all but can’t respond to everyone.
My bad girl side says you should’ve called out, “You’re doing it wrong!”
Hugs to all!
I took out the bi-weekly trash and recycling. I hope I remembered the day right, because it’s not raining.
Happy birthday wheelie!
oopsie, you may want to try an office or restaurant supply place for the coffee concentrate. I’ve seen it at Staples and the restaurant supply outfit that I used to work at carried it for hotel continental breakfasts.
I had a relaxing day. Drank coffee with the freethinkers, got the Sunday chores done, made a pot of mixed bean soup, a pot of turnip / mustard greens and some hot water cornbread, since it was too hot to bake a skillet of it. I also made a couple of wedding cards that were commissioned. They turned out well.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenized, had N.O.L., quality cee-mint pond time, achieved nappage and general sloth this afternoon. Plus, the biiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Oh, and, since tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house, steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Thus has been the day in swampland.
Taters you’re probably on the road or already there, but safe trip. Hope everybody acts right this time around.
Oopsie glad your shake worked out like you hoped. Have a fun family reunion. A newspaper article about one of my family’s reunions would probably start off like “among the survivors are…”.
Nellie your bad girl side and I would get along famously!
Wheelie yay for gettin’ to drive the train on your bday!
And now this…

Happy Birthday Wheelie!
that would be a good job driving kids around on a train all day at the zoo … love zoos btw
hey its cooler today than yesterday its only 104 instead of 106 lol
Arrived in Wenatchee a couple of hours ago. My room was a complete screw-up, on the ground floor, stunl and was for handicapped people. They are completely booked this week. They have me in a different room for tonight, but still haven’t found a permanent solution.
We are not off to a good start…
I’ve had three jalapeño poppers. I had four large peppers, and I cut them in half to make eight poppers. I had leftover cotija cheese that needed to be eaten, so I used it in three of them. The other five were filled with cream cheese. The Spousal Unit tried to eat one, but one bite and her stomach said no. She said it tasted good, but she just can’t eat it. I had already had one of the cotija ones, and then I finished off the one she couldn’t eat. I put the rest into a container, except for one that didn’t fit. I ate another cotija one. There’s one more of those. Good, but saltier than I’d like.
Happy Birthday and driving the train all day, Wheelie! What a great start to the day, I hope it just kept getting better!
I know it’s best to book early if you want to save money but I was really shocked that the rates had risen that much. I don’t go out much, what can I say.
Mom and I don’t like to rush in the mornings and if we have to rush to make it to breakfast it just kinda bothers the rest of the day. Coffee and a piece of toast or half a bagel helps keep us from having to rush downstairs because we are too hungry to wait.
I’m also thinking about buying a tiny microwave to take with us and then donate at the closest thrift store on our way out.
This is going to be Mom’s last seminar, I want to be sure she enjoys herself. Plus, I won’t be lugging all that stuff around myself, the resort has valet parking, I’m sure they have bellboys. Do you know is it still a dollar a bag, or has that gone up in the last year as well?
Is it the no-splash stuff? It has something added to improve the surface tension that causes foaming. I don’t like it either because I use bleach to clean the hummer feeders and I’m worried about the something-I-can’t-remember leaving a harmful residue. It is also slightly more expensive.
Offers sympathy. It really is horrible and demeaning and really just bad. Coffee and weed helps A little.
I’m sure you will find something soon, all it will take is a face to face interview or so.
Hurray! I was worried about your limited food choices becoming even more limited.
Cold brewed coffee is pretty easy to make, you just have to use good beans and have cheesecloth handy. I don’t like it myself, but hubs is a big fan. He’s such a fan that he asked me to stop making it because he couldn’t stop at just one large serving.
And the birds rejoiced!
Of course! Plus we could all pet the elephant. Do they still have elephants at circuses? An elephant once sat on my Grandmother’s red volkswagon bug, but it was her fault because she wasn’t supposed to park there.
Oh NOOOO! I hope they figure something out quickly.
I don’t want to sound mean or anything, but has she actually seen a doctor about her issues or has she diagnosed herself? Every single nurse I have ever known was really not smart about their own health while while actively encouraging others to see their doctor about ongoing issues.
Stops with the nagging.
So, anyone remember me talking about being given 5 lbs of frozen link sausages? I don’t usually eat much breakfast, but hubs likes to get up and heat up some sort of pig meat in the microwave while frying a couple of eggs.
I knew he wasn’t going to want to mess with actually cooking the sausages, so today I baked them all (single layer on a cookie sheet or shallow baking pan, about 30 minutes at 375 F, turning every 10 minutes) and separated them into samich bags for freezing. While I was doing that, I noticed that his bacon was starting to look a little off so I baked that as well. The man is set for nukable breakfast pig for a couple of months because I’m such a good wife.
I cleaned, roll sucked the footfabric, changed Alex Catt’s litter, and took the trash and recycling out. I played a little DOOM on the PS2, and streamed some blues on the PC attached to my TV(I made my dumb TV a Smart TV by sticking one of these on it.) I’m having a Vieux Carré while the poke loin and sweet N.O.T.s cook. Not a bad day off.
Eeek. Hope they can unFUBAR things for you.

Yay! and
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
it;s also World Emoji Day, so,
DH and I just got home from some roaming that involved stretches that could only by very loose definitions be termed “roads”. He just HAD to do some offroading since the rental Jeep is 4WD. The Princess is of course sulking over the royal supper being served later than typical. Buddy didn’t care about that part, he just started chowing down once it was in front of him. Gotta figure out getting him to quit chasing/pouncing on Allie. So far as I can tell, he just wants to play with her, but she really does not like it. Getting him to quit with the middle-of-the-night howls to be let out would be good too. DH’s snoring is quite bad enough as far as sleep disturbances, TYVM.
Bring out the Bright Red Dot of Joy a couple of times a day. If you wear Buddy out enough, he’ll leave Her Hineyness alone.
Did you know that Whitewing Doves are jerks? There is a small flock that lives around here and when they see me go outside they know to line up on the fence and wait for me to fill the tray feeders. Once in a while, I’ll top the mixed seed with shelled sunflower seed and the doves just swarm the feeders and chase off all the rest of the smaller birds then gang up against the bigger ones. Birds were once Velociraptors and have not forgotten!
Poor GG had a horrible moment just now. He was sleeping on his back between a bed pillow and a kitty bed at dinner time. He heard hubs clanging the spoons and tried to jump up and run to the kitchen but he was stuck like a turtle on its back! All of his legs along with his tail flailed around for a while until he was able to hook the comforter with a claw and roll himself over. I am a very bad mom, I laughed a bunch while not helping at all.
