New Wonder Woman movie coming in 2007 - Who should be cast as Wonder Woman?

Nikki Cox has needed a role to make her name outside of television for a long time and Wonder Woman could be it. Physically she’s an, er, imposing specimen. She’s also tall enough at 5’7", beautiful, intelligent, and she can act. Plus she’s a poster child for future posters. The kind you can hang on a wall, that is.

Anna Faris, anyone?

First off, I don’t think casting actors from previous works is necessarily gimmick casting. It’s one of my favorite things about Robert Rodriguez and Sergio Leone (not that Rodruiguez is in anywhere near the same tier in my panthenon of directors of western movies as Sergio Leone is, but that’s beside the point  )

That said, if we’re casting from Whedon alumni, how about the obvious yet unstated choice, and have Sarah Michelle Gellar reprise the role?

Venus Williams.

A brother can dream.

Too short… and by all accounts, too bitchy.

I am a child of the 70s. I am young enough to remember Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. I am old enough to know that’s not going to do it for me (and mine of the same generation) on the big screen. Diana needs to be represented by someone young, someone who looks as if she could be (vaguely) Brazilian (Amazonian). Ladies and gentlemen, I speak of no one else but: Eva Mendes.

Jennifer Connelly - Wonder Woman should look good but she also needs to have some sense of presense. She shouldn’t just be a playmate with super-powers.

And I agree with the consensus - I like Sandra Bullock but she’s a “girl next door” type not a super hero.

Jessica Alba

Okay, this is the first choice I’ve heard anywhere from anyone (including me) that I can support without reservation. I don’t know why I didn’t think of her, but she is nearly perfect for the project.

Jennifer Connelly would have been perfect 10 or 12 years ago, when she was younger and quite frankly The Most Beautiful, Sexy, And Perfect Woman In The World. See *The Rocketeer * and *Career Opportunities * if you don’t believe me. She’s still lovely, but realistically past the ideal age any producers would want to cast as Wonder Woman. And she’s so much skinnier now than she used to be, but she was so perfectly curvy and voluptuous in those earlier movies. What a damn shame.

I could see Baccarin or Connelly.

Or maybe Rachel McLish—if she’s still in shape. And you dubbed her lines.

I agree with ddgryphon. Jennifer Connelly is the only name I’ve seen mentioned in any conversation on this topic that I would support without reservation.

Here’s the test. Imagine it’s a confrontation between Wonder Woman and Batman - not physical, just a battle of wills. So you’ve got Batman all glowering and dark and moody on one side. And here’s Wonder Woman on the other side. Now think of your suggested actress - could she stand up to Batman?

Jennifer Connelly could.

Now try to imagine Tiffany Fallon facing down Batman.

Thinking outside the box a little bit…

There is no reason to assume that an Amazon woman has to have a western looking ethnicity. I’m thinking someone a little more exotic. Someone who exudes an air of sexiness combined with menace. Someone who can be hot and scary at the same time.

Someone like Chiaki Kuriyama

AKA Go Go Yubari from Kill Bill.

Then what’s the point of making a Wonder Woman movie if you’re going to render the trademark property unrecognizable? This is why Catwoman sucked and Constantine was mediocre, because of all the liberties they took with the source material, beginning with casting the leads. I have to fervently disagree.

Because Cathie Lee Crosby nailed that audition!

Ah, but they cast Ricardo Montalban and that more than maintained the Mediterranean Balance of the whole equation…

Huh? Drescher is 49, Bullock is 42.

Rhona Mitra gets my vote. Hubba-Hubba.

I’m partial to Rosario Dawson, myself.

Seriously, have you ever seen Lopez act? If she’d never decided to become a popstar, she’d be highly respected as an actress. Have you seen Out of Sight? When I saw Out of Sight, Lopez became my favorite new actress for a while. She totally owns a nearly flawless movie. I groaned when she went into popstar mode, but mostly because I knew it would blow her credibility as an actress. It’s unfortunate that her records (bad as they are) sold so well, because most people assume that she rode their popularity to a few movie roles. But the reverse is actually the case. She established her bonafides as an actor well before she did the cheesy music thing. She’s definitely chosen some bad roles since then; she rarely anymore does anything that I want to see. But to say she “can’t act” is just silly.

And re: Lucy Lawless: would think she’d lunge headfirst at any major movie role, especially a vehicle like WW. I just can’t see her going, “No, thank you; I’m waiting for a remake of Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”
