New Year’s Rant Solutions (January mini-rants)

We have outgrown our current rental. We have been able to afford renting this trailer because we got in when rental rates were low and they haven’t raised the rents too too much since then. We are pretty good tenants. We did have a cat that did some damage to the home and I did once put my fist through the wall but mostly we are good to the trailer we live in.

Unfortunately, in order to get into a larger trailer, the only way to afford it is to buy, it looks like. This is scary and probably ill advised. We can’t afford a regular house, not in this school district for sure. I don’t know what to do.

Enjoy your terrible vacation.

I don’t know what advice I can give you as for alternatives, but I feel kinda stuck in our manufactured home, which we own. Don’t get me wrong, I really like this house. It’s huge. It has a lot of cool features I probably wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford. In my perfect world we could transplant this house to a plot of land and build a basement and live here forever. But they do keep jacking up our lot rent, and there comes a point where it gets so high that you can’t easily sell. And we are approaching that point. But we are not ready to buy. Pretty much every type of housing right now is too expensive to be livable, and we need to remain close to my son’s ABA place for now (we are super close, which is a HUGE relief, commute-wise. We’ve experienced the alternative and it’s not great.)

I dunno, it sucks. Right now our lot rent is much cheaper than a mortgage but that’s going to change because they are going to increase it every year. We know this is their business plan because this community used to belong to my husband’s family.

You would think that, but no. Actually I have a cold so I’m glad I’m not exposing my elderly charges to it.

A rant about people who don’t take their meds. My ex, I called his friend who’s also my friend now, and he said the guy had a stroke. Hes in hospital for observation. Hes 55, had a couple concussions in the past few years, is a health nut who thinks B12 and garlic and herbs can heal you. He wasn’t taking his bp meds.

That’s not being a health nut, that’s just being a nut.

A health nut does things that are actually healthy.

I guess theres a difference between a health nut and health advocate.

My town is weird.

A plane crashed into the main road not far from here. I mean, within walking distance of my house. I don’t see it on the news yet but it only happened a half hour ago.

I also just learned about this bit of fun:

This is also the same town where one of the Jan 6 riot leaders lived in (before he went to prison I mean).

Funny thing is, it’s a pretty nice town if you ignore the insane stuff.

There’s an article on the plane crash now:

We live really close to an air field where people learn to fly planes and helicopters so it’s kind of inevitable. A year ago this happened too:

Different Coast, different brand of Psychos, but I get it.

I’m Going to have to get my dr. To get me a prescription for anti diarrhea pills. I have to take them weekly, usually 6 at a time but once I used 10. Its a nessecity as if I don’t I have leakage. Shelled out 10 dollars for 24. I used to find them at the dollar store for 1.25. No more. Now they’re threatening to raise my rent.

I think that I’ve had enough of snow and ice for one winter. It’s not fun anymore.

They canceled my kid’s school tomorrow, motherfuckers. I’m so confused about the forecast. It says it’s going to be a low of 15F - the best we’ve had all week - but somehow wind chills are expected 10-20F below zero? Makes no goddamn sense to me. Also it doesn’t say anything about windchill in the 10 day forecast. This kind of feels like they are freaking out over nothing and it’s not convenient to working parents at all. I swear to God these fuckers all secretly have a Republican agenda to force women back in the home.

That seems unlikely.

Here is the National Weather Service’s wind chill chart:

https://www.weather.gov/safety/cold-wind-chill-chart

If it’s 15 degrees outside, and it’s blowing 60 MPH (which is almost as strong as a tropical storm) that’s about -11 degrees. Wind chill is not going to get it to -20 degrees. Realistically, it would have to be closer to 5 degrees of temperature for the wind chill to get that cold.

Yeah, it doesn’t track. But when I go to the Weather Channel, there is indeed a wind chill warning through 12pm tomorrow for my location. I feel like I’m going crazy.

ETA: So the projected temp for tonight is 2F. Maybe they are talking about nighttime windchills lasting into the early morning and that’s why they canceled school. That fits your chart more readily.

If it gets windy enough that becomes very plausible.

Either way, too damn cold.

We are meeting with my kid’s ABA Team tomorrow morning so we’re going to be out there no matter what, but not waiting for the bus or anything, just driving him. Now, however, I have a narrow window of work time before we have to pick him up at lunchtime. It’s always me.

I did not shovel when it snowed a few inches this week and it looks like it’s fine but I hope it doesn’t snow again before this snow melts because now we’ve got some ice in the driveway. More fool I.

Must be something ranty in the air or The Committee is pissed. Whoever the mailperson was today put everyones mail in the wrong box! 305 got 106’s! Wtf?

What, was the PLANE taking flying lessons too?

(I only read what the link says. I didn’t open it and read the item.)

My snowplow guy is obviously operating “under the radar” of taxation as he prefers to be paid in cash. I sympathize with him as the tax on services rather than products is something that pisses me off.

But after delaying paying him right into the mid-winter season, mainly because I couldn’t be bothered to go to the ATM, I called him and asked if he would be OK with an Interac e-transfer. Done, and done. Right now it’s bitterly cold outside with light snow, and I’m quite content here with my glass of rum, and I can hear him plowing my driveway.

Technology is a wonderful thing.

The plane was physically incapable of a left turn. Think of a car that can only go in reverse because of a busted gearbox, that doesn’t mean the car doesn’t know how to.

“Shortly after departing the airport, the pilot leveled off and started a right turn,” according to the recently released preliminary investigation report. “The pilot soon realized that the airplane just wanted to turn right and would not turn left, despite his actions. At this time, the pilot-rated passenger seated in the rear seat noticed that the rear control stick was positioned to the left and the left aileron (a section on the back edge of the wing of an aircraft that can be raised or lowered in order to control the aircraft’s movement) was in the neutral position. He also reported that there were no anomalies with the engine during the flight.”
