“My car has a cool feature,” said Tom Swift, straight-forwardly.
I love Swifties! said Tom, at the Eras tour.
Yeah, small amounts of snow here normally melt, but I learned growing up in MN that you always shovel before you drive/walk on the sidewalk/driveway. I’m certain my neighbors think I’m nuts when I got out and shovel a 1/4" of powder, but one of these days another storm will come along and I’ll be vindicated!
Just to be clear, you realize that the wind chill doesn’t actually change the temperature, it’s just how much colder the wind makes the temperature feel? Maybe I’m not understanding what you’re getting at.
You know, I was fine with no white Christmas. I just don’t get the people that complain about it ‘cause it’s gonna’ get snowy. We’ve had more than a foot. I’m not sure if it’s all snow or blowing and drifting, probably 6 of one and half dozen of the other. It sucks, my car has crap tires and no all wheel drive. I hate winter sooo much. If I could afford to move I would. In other words: It’s never Fun. Imo. Oh, and if my Grandkids don’t go back to school soon I’m gonna’ have a breakdown. I asked my son’s gf to pick me up a bag of sanity when she went to the store. Sadly, the store was fresh out.
You can thank Irving Berlin for that.
Yea but it doesn’t drop that much. The projected temperatures aren’t really possible. I posted a chart showing how wind chill is calculated.
Verily.
(It always bugs me to see “yea” for “yeah” even though neither word is spelled sensibly.)
As it does to me too but it’s too late to fix the typo dammit.
I do this sometimes: I’ll never understand how I can type things like “it’s” for “its.” I know better, but my fingers somehow manage.
It’s cold, and I don’t want to get out of bed and go to work. I’d be so happy if I could go to work at a reasonable time, like 9 or 10.
When I ran low on butter and went to buy more, they were completely out of the brand name I like, so I got store brand.
I cam definitely taste the difference. It’s missing that sweet dairy note, so it mostly just tastes like salty grease.
The thing is, I go through a LOT of butter, and not just for cooking. One of my current favorite snacks is a Triscuit with a slice of butter and a dab of either gochujang or chili crisp on top.
I also occasionally like a plain rice cake topped with enough butter to take it straight outta the “quintessential diet food” realm entirely.
This stuff just isn’t as yummy for that. Truly mini, I know, but still disappointing.
I’ll look out for the name brand, and I guess use this stuff up where the butter isn’t so prominent, e.g. sautéing onions.
The only thing rant-like about this rant is my annoyance with myself for not having thought of the bleeding obvious a long time ago. My snowplow guy called yesterday to politely remind me that I still had not paid him, and given that winter is half over, his concern was understandable. And the reason was that driving out to the bank to get a huge wad of cash (his preferred mode of payment, the reasons for which we need not get into ) was a huge pain in the ass. And then he had to get out of his truck on his next plowing job, and come to the door to collect it.
So I just asked, how about I just send it to you via Interac (basically an interbank wire transfer service which I think is similar to Venmo in the US). He said sure. I did the transfer, and he got the money seconds later. No one had to do so much as get up off their chair. Driving around to get cash out of a bank and then the payee having to drive around putting it back into some other bank is just so archaic, because the end result is just a different pattern of bits on a disk drive. Why didn’t I think of this a long time ago?
Right, but a wind chill of -20 is not possible in 15F weather, unless it’s extremely windy, which is not in the forecast. But I figured out that they were really talking about evening/early morning wind chill in which the temperature would be much lower. It’s 5F right now.
I’ll go shovel in 15 minute increments starting this afternoon, once it heats up. Although - I have somehow lost my cold weather hat? Which is going to be a problem.
I gotta go pick up my kid from ABA at 12:30pm because of school being cancelled. This really isn’t a day conducive to getting work done.
Like seventeen hours ago?
I had completely forgotten that previous post. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I will go and compile a grocery list in which I will forget to include three or four essential items, and will then head out leaving the list behind. I don’t know that I have Alzheimer’s, but I definitely have some form of Old Fart Memory Deficiency.
My grandson starts school at 7:50.
They announced a two-hour delay.
So when I found this out I set my alarm for another hour, and then packed him into the car to get him to school just a couple minutes after 8:50…
Oops.
Did you know that 1 does not equal 2?
Same happened to me (my daughter that is, I don’t have grandkids quite yet).
Then as I almost had her ready (a half hour early just to be safe) I got a notification that her school was closed all day long. Gah.
Don’t we all? I shouldn’t have poked at you.
I consider my version a sort of stack overflow problem. Like, I’ll get up to go take my daily pills. And realize I might as well take my empty cup to the kitchen at the same time. And on the way I pass the front door and figure I could check to see if the mail has come. And then decide to put the newly arrived magazine on the coffee table in the living room. Where I spot that bag of empty bottles for recycling so I put them beside the front door to take when I go to the grocery store later on. Then I put the empty cup beside the sink and go back upstairs.
Notice that the pills never got taken. They rolled off the stack of Things To Do or something…
