I made baked mostaccioli for eighty with meatballs on the side, and a chef friend made his incredible homemade pizzas from 6pm until 1am. We also had chips, dips, cheese trays, fruit with yummy dip, some filled turnover things, cookies, unstuffed mushrooms, tapenade and pitas, and plenty o’ beer, wine and soft drinks. Everyone left stuffed to the point of near-pain AND with doggie bags, and I still have enough leftovers to feed my small family of three for a week.
Chinese, baby. Springrolls, chicken balls, wonton soup, fried rice, steamed vegetables… mmm. Followed by a delicious cheesecake for dessert. Good times.
Home made “Macho Nachos” , home made guacamole, and some really great microbrewed beer. Beer with a very high alcohol content. Put us in the 10 o’clock club as well
We had a few beers at our local pub, then went to see Meet the Fokkers at 7:00. Picked up a pizza after the movie, and were asleep by 11:00. Coupla old fogies…
[obligitory Fokkers quote]
Ahhhsss - hoooooo!

A couple cans of coke and some cocoa puffs. Not at the same time though. Ew.
I had a 12" Italian cold cut sub from the Albertson’s supermarket deli, some chilled rice-stuffed grape leaves, lemonade, and a cuppa tea with milk much later. Just didn’t feel like drinking last night.
Saurkraut and spareribs, with mashed potatoes – an old German tradition that’s supposed to make for a prosperous new year. And it tastes fabulous!
One is bad enough, but TWO?
A couple friends came over for an early dinner, and I made soy/ginger salmon on a bed of coconut spinach sauce, saffron rice, and champagne-glazed carrots.
Well, right, 'cause then your stomach would explode like Mikey, right?

Could I come pitch a tent in your backyard next New Year’s Eve?
I made Rumaki, oyster stew and lobster. An odd combination, but good.
He likes 'em - so who am I to deprive my sweetie? 'Specially since I really didn’t feel like cooking.
We had T-Bones with grilled onions and baby portabella mushrooms.
YUM
I went for a Thai feast. We had nam tok (beef salad), fish maw salad, a green curry with beef and thai eggplant, pork neck marinated and grilled, and Tiger Cry whcih is a combination of grilled meats. The nam tok came with som tum papaya salad as well. That with a couple Newcastle Brown Ales made for a fantastic meal.
We had tapas.
A big loaf of fresh wholegrain bread; a dish of anchovies; a dish of herbed green olives; hard-boiled eggs; steamed, room-temperature broccolini dressed with lemon and good olive oil; a half-dozen prawns, marinated in olive oil and lemon and grilled; and a plate of keftedes (Greek meatballs seasoned with allspice and mint). A few glasses of cold manzanilla sherry before the meal, and a bottle of rioja with it.
New Year’s DAY, though, that’s where tradition steps in. Got to have your black-eyed peas for luck, and your mess of greens for wealth.
We were bar-hopping in Asheville. At one place we had some hummus, and then at another we had some really good onion pakoras and some sort of a bean and spinach tortilla with a mole sauce that was pretty good.
Mostly, though, it was booze. The best drink of the night was something they unfortunately called a Gingertini–fresh ginger muddled in simple syrup and added to some Stoli Vanil. Runner up was a Cherry Bomb, which was a mimosa made with cherry juice. Honorable mention went to a mixture of Bombay Sapphire gin, Reed’s Ginger Brew, and lime–three things I like a lot that just didn’t go together very well.
We hosted a late night get-together, so we had to eat a little early. Incredibly Sexy Wife and I had:
Creamed cauliflower soup
Green salad
Whole lobsters stuffed with crab meat
Twice-baked potatos
Chocolate mousse with whipped cream
Amaretto
Coffee
Champagne and strawberries at midnight
We decided to get as decadent as we could this year, and we made a pretty good effort at it.
SuaSponte and I went out to our favorite sushi place, then split a bottle of champagne. Yum!
We went to Sala, an excellent upscale Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. I had all the New Years Specials:
Appetizer: Humo de Oaxaca - pasilla de oaxaca chiles stuffed with beef picadillo and served with almond cream sauce and epazote oil
Entree: Res con Mole Xico - boneless beef short ribs slow braised in mole xico served with stone ground hominy-green chile pudding
Dessert: Empanadas de Manzana - warm apple turnover served with cinnamon ice cream and mexican chocolate sauce
Everything was delicious - accompanied by wonderful margaritas shaken tableside and served straight up in martini glasses.
