for me, i went down to the local Koto Japanese resturant and treated myself to my favorite meal, a sushi dinner, finished off with a fried banana (which the chef had amusingly designed to look like a “banana slug” (it had a pair of marischino cherry “eyes”), thought it was rather amusing
We were going to get pizza, but our favorite pizza place was closed. So I ended up making what I call “the green bean thing”: ham or sausage on the bottom of the skillet, green beans on top of that, and sliced, skin-on potatoes on top of that. Put a little water in, cover and cook on medium until potatoes are tender. Anyone know what this is actually called? My husband’s mother used to make it when he was a kid, and he told me how to make it. Can’t ask her because she died before I met him.
My DH made roast duck. He served it with matchstick potatoes cooked in duckfat and sauteed bok choy. For dessert we had cookies, cherries and a nice Riesling. I love my husband!
I had a grilled cheese sammich, and my sweetie had 2 grilled peanut butter sammiches. We drank milk, and finished the meal off with the chocolate cake I’d baked earlier.
We were asleep before 10 - are we party animals or what???
Well, I -wanted- to have a pork loin roast, but all they had in the grocery store were either too expensive or just -huge-. So, we ended up having baked chicken wings (seasoned with mesquite seasonings), cheesy rice and peas & carrots. It was all good! Then later I brought out a cheese ball (port wine w/almonds), crab & shrimp dip and some townhouse crackers to have with Mimosas. I can’t believe it, but my 17 yo son was back home at 10:30 PM!!! And my 22 yo daughter doesn’t like alcohol…which left all the Mimosas for me.
It was irishfella’s favourite, chicken and pasta and sauce, which he made while I soaked in a hot bath, since I was suffering from sleep deprivation and a surfeit of hash cakes.
The bath worked wonders and we enjoyed dinner and a few glasses of red wine before seeing the New Year in with a glass of rum and coke and a bang (literally).
Happy New Year Everyone!
(After lying in bed all morning watching the OC and cuddling my husband to be, 2005 is shaping up to be a great year!)
After unexpectdly eing drafted into the New Year’s Eve Procession in Boston (we were at the head of the parade!), we made our way to Chinatown and miraculously found an uncrowded restaurant. Szechuan Shredded Bef, Chicken Chow Mein, and Sputtering Chicken with Scallions with rice, washed down with chardonnay and tea. Yum!
We had 10 adults and four children over for dinner. I made tons of hor dourves and munchies to go with champers for the grownups and sparkling apple cider for the kiddies.
The actual dinner was prime rib, garlic-mashed potatoes and broccoli. Everyone was stuffed. Like FairyChatMom, we were in bed by 10:00pm.
