Obviously, I’m thrilled. Her mother deserves the credit for raising her this way.
Not mentioned in the news report is that Sophia won an award for most volunteer hours in the history of her middle school, 771 hours over a 3 year period.

Nice story!
I hope you had a hand as well
Very impressive!
Of course, but I am a wise man…
She justifies your pride in her
What a phenomenal young woman!!
All right, I cried.
People who complain about kids these days… forget them. I think newer generations are moving our future toward a more compassionate, socially conscious, creative approach to solving the world’s problems.
Well done, sir. I really can’t imagine anything must feel better than knowing you created a human who is making the world a better place.
Was looking for other threads and found this one - thought y’all would like to know that Sophia, Laura and I was awarded the “Family Volunteer of the Year” award for 2016 by the Food Bank at their Harvest of Hope dinner.
Still proud, still a dad…
As a fellow food bank volunteer, I thank her for all she has done. Way to go!
Good job. Kudos to all in your family and for your efforts.
Great kid, and a lovely tribute to her! Well done, both you and her mother.
Great story and more importantly, great girl!
Good, so good! Best to you both!
In the last couple yers, I happen to have met a number of girls who suffer anxiety, eating disorders, etc. and a lot of them were heavily (e.g., excessively) participatory in volunteer aid - as a general part of their attempt to be perfect for their parents and siblings. So while the interview doesn’t ping my worry meter, I’ll just say that you should make it clear to your daughter that you’d love her even if she was less perfect. Having so much of social interaction be online these days, there’s a lot more social pressure among your peers, for teens, since people can get away with more dickery.
It’s important that people are doing good deeds just because they enjoy it, not because they’re trying to achieve a particular image.
What’s that saying? If you can’t say something nice don’t threadshit. I hope you can look this over again and realize how tone deaf it is. Even if you can’t, knock it off. I’m assuming you were actually trying to help so this will be a note not a warning.
