OK Dopers I need your help and you don’t need to be a football fan to help me.
I just order the Greatest Sports Entertainment package ever created.
NFL Ticket!!!
After first experiencing it last year while visiting a friend in Minnesota it was a must have for this year. It is a Football fan’s dream come true and a Fantasy Football Players wet dream come true.
Anyway the plan is obviously for Sundays at Sledman’s with a crew of regulars from the Fantasy League and some others showing up at their leisure. We came up with the idea last night to do theme/regional foods based on the Packer’s opponent(ie. Play Philadelphia have Philly Cheese Steaks) Actually in fairness, my Fiancée came up with this idea(that alone should explain why we are getting married in 8 days).
What I am asking of the TM is to post the regional food/drink for their NFL city and if possible links to their favorite recipes.
Here is the 2000-01 schedule for Green Bay.

Oh yeah, you guys didn’t think I wouldn’t invite you, did you??
Any Dopers in the Stevens Point, WI area during the season are welcome to join us for Sundays at Sledman’s.
I can’t help you with many suggestions for opposing team-themed food. 'Cept maybe Minnesota, which is obvious: But God help you if you put lutefisk on the menu.
Anyway, for the bye week I’ll throw a couple brats on the ol’ Weber and raise a glass of Leinies for ya down here in Madison.
2 1/2 lb Chicken Wings (12-15 Wings)
4 T. Frank’s Red Hot Cayenne
Pepper Sauce
1/2 cup Butter
Split wings at joints. Discard tips. Pat dry.
Deep fry at 400 degrees (high), until crispy (about 12 min, but they’re better if you overcook them a bit). Remove and drain.
Combine Frank’s Red Hot sauce & butter. Toss wings in sauce until coated completely.
You can feel free to add extra stuff to the sauce if you want to make it hotter, but this is a good basic recipe to work on. My stepfather is from Buffalo and this is how he makes them–they’re better than anywhere I’ve had them in Buffalo, including the Anchor Bar, where they were invented.
Serve 'em with celery sticks and bleu cheese dressing. But you knew that…
Beef on Weck
Brush a mixture of cornstarch and water on the top of ordinary Kaiser rolls (you can do this with egg-whites too, but don’t overdo it). Over cornstarch-water mixture, sprinkle equal amounts of caraway seeds and Kosher salt. Heat in a 350 degree oven for about 3 minutes, long enough for the top of the rolls to get crusty and for the caraway seeds and salt to stick. Serve a beef round roast or your favorite roast beef on the rolls, sliced as desired. Top with your favorite horseradish (the real kind, not the sauce), and dip the inside of the top half of the roll in au jus just before serving.
Required eating for the Chicago game should be a Maxwell Street Polish Sausage… It’s basicly a bun-sized Kielbasa. Have it with pickle relish and mustard.
BTW, Mr. Cynical, Bitter Defeat is never, ever served during a Buffalo Bills game until after the first of the year. (The preceding Public Service announcement was brought to you by the Disillusioned Bills Fans of America. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Message Board.)
Agreed. However, in the spirit of the OP, I included it as a regional foodstuff (however loosely the term may apply). Having spent 9 years in Western NY, I have no illusions about the quality of Gennessee (hey, I lived in Rochester, and I’ve seen the Gennessee River  ).
You want good beer, wait till they play the Rams or the Broncos.
I’ve never grilled wings, BTW. We always bake ours. Sadly, they ain’t the same. Mebbe I’ll try firing up the Weber this fall.
Oh, and is Nance’s Wing Sauce persona non grata? I always thought it was pretty good.
Hey, Sledman, I was so caught up with the Buffalo thing, I didn’t even notice GB beats…er I mean plays the Jets opening day. Well, Bills fan notwithstanding, I was born and raised and currently live in the metro NYC area. So lemme help ya out here, pally…
Hmmmm. The Jets. Well, toasted marshmallows would be too obviously symbolic…
You could always try to score a couple packs of Nathan’s Franks. They’re a Coney Island original. Not as good as when they grill em for ya, of course, but early in the season, you could grill em outdoors and serve em with kraut, onions, relish, the woiks.
I think that’s a better idea than a kosher corned beef on rye from the 2nd Avenue Deli, although I wouldn’t turn that down, either.
Oh, and Reingold beer with that, if you can get it. Or maybe an egg cream. Yeah, that’s the ticket. A chocolate egg cream.
Hey, back to Buffalo. Even though they’re a Rochester product, Zweigle’s hots. Red hots and white hots. Grilled till they split and have little burnt patches on em. Lor’! Gotta get me some.
Wings and beef on weck tops the list, but if you want a Western NY frankfurter, Zweigle’s.
You people CAN’T tell me that none of these cities have a special recipe of some sort. I thought this was a great idea, but it seems like I’m the only one who managed to offer the poor guy anything to cook!
It’s too bad you aren’t playing Cincinnati–I would have given you a recipe for Skyline.
Dave, I don’t know about Nance’s. I don’t know if they even sell it here. I’ve never considered using anything but Frank’s (formerly Durkee’s) Red Hot.
As far as other cities, I don’t have much to add. Of course, a large cheese platter or fondue would be a must for the Packer’s game.
Philly - I have a friend who used to talk about Speedys. Some kind of sandwich I believe, but I don’t remember the details.
For the Carolina Panther game may I recommend hot dogs a’ la Carolina ? That would be a dog plus chili, cheese, and cole slaw. It is, strangely enough, actually better than it sounds.
Enjoy watching Reggie White sack Favre . . . bet you thought you’d never see that eh ?
