NFL draft

Aww Omni you nit picked me for it earlier in the thread. I figured you of anyone would catch it. Bunkley.

forgetting a top DT in a mock draft due to haste shows how unexpectd this is.

The Texans coach has helped Denver for years make 1000 yard Rbs with a RB friendly O-line blocking set up. I can see Davis increasing his rushing yards this year.

A stud DE is in my opinion harder to find than a good RB. Way to go Texans!

Draft day excitement is on the rise! Less than 4 hours to go!!!

Aww now you do not have to be that way. Lots of good players out there for everyone in the top 10. I would be happy with most of the players that have been rumored to go in the top 15 (excluding Young)

For the Cards some are a better fit than others.

**Huff **would quickly fill in and then take over Griffin at FS. Grif is a hard hitting old boy but is becoming a liability in coverage.
Ngata would be a solid improvement to the DL and stopping the run.
Justice Second best OL and would look mighty nice with L. Davis on the left side of the line
Cutler I doubt would have a direct impact. Given a year or two filling in for injuries to Warner he can be a damn nice QB to have.
Sims Boosting the LB corp and giving another young talented defender.

Be warned if **V. Davis ** makes it to 10. Davis, Fitz, Boldin, Warner and the Edge… shudder what defense would have a chance?

Not that Davis would drop that far.

Woo Hoo 3 hours 20 minutes

Two things. I do not believe dominant pass rushers are necessarily more important than dominant running backs. The Steelers leader in sacks was Joey Porter. Seattle’s leader was a DT, Bryce Fisher. Yet the Steelers won the Super Bowl with a pathetic offense, but for a long run by Willie Parker, and Seattle made it that far on the legs of Shaun Alexander. Heck Derrick Burgess lead the NFL in sacks, and Oakland had the 6th worst total defense in the league.

On the flip side, the Seahawks wouldn’t have even gotten past the first round of the playoffs without Alexander, Eli Manning wouldn’t progress nearly as fast without Tiki, and Marshall Faulk helped the Colts go from 4-12 to 8-8 after drafting him, and making the Conference championship the next year.

Now, I know it’s almost impossible to compare the two positions. But if you’re incredibly lucky, you’re DE will average a sack a game, while your running back will touch the ball 20-30 times. Now I know sacks are not a good indicator about the importance of a dominant DE, nor does yards from scrimmage indicate the importance of running backs. But, all things being equal, I think an outstanding running back will help a team more than a dominant DE. There are exceptions of course, like how the addition of Reggie White was crucial to the Packers’ Super Bowl win, but by and large, I think rb can make a bigger difference to a struggling team.

In the current NFL, running backs are seriously underrated. The lack of interest last year in Edge and Alexander, the emergence of running backs by committee like Parker and Bettis, et al., and the increased use of TE as a stud position all indicate the devaluation of the running back position. And maybe they’re right. Personally, I don’t think so.

Finally, I’m not sold on Mario Williams. He’ll have huge games and then disappear. He had a pretty good player on the opposite side of him, Lawson, who helped stop the double teams. I don’t see him as a dominant pass rusher. Bush, however, I think is a very special player. But what do I know.

4 more hours…

This is what I will say. About 1/3 of the people taken in the first round would not be if you knew what you will know in a couple years right now. (huh?)

Blabbermouth (or really Blabberwriter) Easterbrook does a good job with this when he reimagines the 1997 1st round with 20/20 hindsight

Note that two of the players who should have been lottery-level selections weren’t chosen by anyone in the actual 1997 draft. Also note that only nine from the actual 1997 first round make the reimagined first round. The actual 1997 first round was a parade of blown picks and who-dats – Michael Booker, Jim Druckenmiller, Yatil Green; it’s not pretty.
Fully 2/3 of the people you probably would have taken in the first round were taken in later rounds.

I think this has always been pretty consitent when you do those look backs – and one reason why some smart folks think the Draft hoopla is “over-rated” - esp. the next day grades

uh… that would be 2/3. really the point is people get affixed to thinking the top 10 is where you need to be to get impact players and that is (Very, very) rarely the case - but it isn’t as exciting to think “we may get a QB named Brady in the 6th round” (Whoop-de-doo until you see what that* actually * means on the feild)

Ten minutes left. I can taste the giddiness. Maybe I should brush my teeth…I just got up…yawn.

The huge problem is stil Kurt Warner. ALL the pressure is on the offensive line to dictate how far the Cardinals will go. Who’s the backup these days?

This opening montage is REALLY gay. I’ve gotta tell someone. You guys are it.
Stope the cocktease!!! Get to the draft!!!

My teeth still aren’t brushed. I’m watching the draft half naked.

Yes, this is VITAL information.

It won’t be too long until the Jets make The Trade…I’m waiting…juuuuuust waiting.

Yeah, it looks like you guys get a running draft diary here. Am I one of the only people that really don’t care about this entire Reggie Bush fraud thing?

He’ll throw money at the problem and it’ll go away. It makes his comments about how he thinks college athletes should get paid in a whole new light, though.

Backup QB? we have Rohan Davey and John Navarre. Plus who ever gets drafted where. I like Rohan, but I really think Navarre is not worth spit as a QB.

The o-line is going to be better with time Warner is a damn fine accurate passer.

Yeah, I was being lazy. I glanced at it expecting it to have been one of the big PR guys, Young, Cutler, Davis etc. Didn’t feel like taking the time to look at the entire board. Plus it appeared that the top 4 were the only ones juggled since they lacked explanations. Frankly, that hillbilly probably had Bunkley missing on his earlier version.

Still surprised there hasn’t been a trade rumor yet regarding Bush and the second pick.

Warner is only as useful as his offensive line is, much like Drew Bledsoe…minus all the concussions and such, though.

Their offensive line is (rightly) the focal point of their team.

The Jets, my boy! The Jets!..they’re abounding!

…at least the rumors are.

They just called Williams a “sack artist”. That makes me smile. Big man to have such a dainty touch when painting le scrote.

True, I just do not see it as being as much of a worry as people see it as. Do not get me wrong depth is going to be needed. I am more concerned over the DT positions. Last years o-line was ruined by many injuries and some poor performances, last years DL was one injury to the DT position and after that everyone could run on AZ.

Well, I hope it’s not going to be a worry. I don’t want to see Mr. Warner die on the field because his eyeballs shot through the back of his skull from a particularly vicious sackle.

Ick…they just pulled up the graphic about the Lions having the worst record in the league since '02.
That makes me sad in the pants.

Ooh…Rachael Nichols. I am now happy in the pants again.

I friggin hate these Coors Light commercials. I REALLY really really really really really hate them. They’re so bad on so many different levels.

From one of the Google ads: “How Swiss are you?”

What in the hell did we say that was Swiss??

Can I take a moment to say once again that I hate the fact that we have to wait 15 minutes per pick? The NBA draft is watchable, but the glacial pace makes the NFL draft hard to stomach.

Damn you foreplay…just…get…me to the main event, willya???

Yeesh.

I agree, Marley23. Could you tell?
