Rob Ryan should be banned from football for life. Steve Spagnola should start looking into a new career. The Gints and Saints defenses eclipse pathetic. They’re high school calibre.
He had the same issues then…late game defense. When the opposition is within one score, the Gints defense collapses. I joke (thought it isn’t a joke really) that the Gints prevent defense only prevents the Gints from winning. The only way they win in that situation is a defensive turnover, and that is not something a team should count on.
I give him credit for drastically slowing down Brady, pressuring him and throwing him off his game. It’s not his fault that 1) Coughlin totally mismanaged the clock on the last Giants offensive possession, 2) Beckham dropped an easy TD or 3) his DB botched a sure pick to end the game. But yeah, his defense has been generally shitty the rest of the year. But on the other hand, where’s the talent?
I think it’s more about defensive schemes than talent. If a DC can;t come up with a scheme to stop a offense on 4th and 10 then he doesn’t need to be working.
Manning optioned away from the run. Personally, I think Coughlin and McAdoo (OC) should have told Manning run no matter what defense they show, but it was initially a run call. Manning’s on field end-of-game clock management decisions have been exceptionally bad this year too.
It was very un-Patriots-like that losing Edelmann slowed them so much (and cost me any chance of playoffs in my fantasy league).
The first play by the goalline very easily could have gotten them to the two minute warning (clock stopped at 2:01), so I think they expected it to do so, but once it didn’t there was no way to stop the Pats from getting the ball back with more than enough time to kick a FG (about 1:15), so going for the TD was more important.
The ball was directly swatted out of his hands by the DB; not quite a drop, let also an easy TD.
It would have been a very difficult interception, as he caught it while falling backwards onto his arm from a height. A chance to end the game, for sure, but not a “how could he miss that??”.
Wait, what? The secondary is actually quite good. The pass rush is non-existent and the LBs are among the worst in the league for like the 10th year in a row.
Yes, they had a better game on Sunday, and JPPs return might make a big difference going forward. Up until now the pass rush has been nonexistent, I should have said.
