Did anyone get to watch the Cowboys-Titans game? I figured there was no way they could keep it close against the Titans. How much did that concussion affect McNair? Ugh, what a pisser. What the hell did the oddsmakers know that we didn’t?
See my point about aberration. Remember that the Panthers beat the Vikings early last year and it took me weeks to stop giving the Panthers credit. It could well be the same thing with Houston this year. Toss that game out and let’s see where the Cowboys end up.
On officiating. I’m watching the Rams v Giants right now. What the f*&k is up with that officiating crew? They have made several bad calls. The non-fumble call for Collins (which was clearly a fumble) could have been a 10 point swing. I watched this same crew last week, I think it was the Browns and Chiefs, and they just seem lost. Since that big raise last year you would expect to see a higher level of precision than this.
God it feels good to be a Broncos fan today. Kicked some 49er ass. I guess it’s a good thing y’all aren’t playing for money, huh?
Yikes, I just realized that (a) this was incredibly prophetic*, at least the shoot out part and (b) Omni has Bledsoe and Moss. Drat!
Hollis just missed a FG which would have won it for the Bills in OT, score tied at 39 each.
Oh man what an exciting game between the Raiders and Steelers. 27-17 in the 4th.
40 pass plays in the first half by those Faiders, and Jerry Rice showing the whole repetoire with his first half 10 catches.
Kordell sucks.
Raiders west coast offense is amazing: 7 yard pass, 6 yard pass, 3rd and 10 – Jerry Rice to the rescue!
Charlie Garner pulled some Barry Sanders, Madden-like jukes & spins – the plural form emphasized – for 35 yards on the Steelers defense that was just sick.
Oh yeah, of all people Terry Kirby just ran a kickoff return for a TD. Guess he still has some speed left in his old tank.
Wow, that’s looking pretty good. Considering how the rest of the weekend has gone I guess that’s something.
I had a really good week this week in my prognostication. I went 9-6 straight up, and 12-3 ATS…wish I’d had cash on it.
I’m going to blow my own horn here a little, since you turkeys haven’t seen fit to do it ;).
A few quotes:
“The Pack is solid on offense, and soft on defense. GB can get after the passer, but they won’t be able to stop McAllister.”
“The Pats will do what they did to the Steelers, embarass [the Jets].”
“I don’t know if the Bucs will be able to run at all here, and they’ll have to play the field position game all day. But they’ll wn that battle. Gramatica will have a huge fantasy day. Bucs win and cover, might end up 15-6, no touchdowns.”
“Granted I’d be alot happier if it was in Buffalo, but I still think he’ll eat up the Vikes D. Hell Jim Miller did it, Bledsoe’s gonna have a huge day.”
“If Brady was able to disect the Steelers secondary, what do you think Brown, Rice and Gannon will do, especially with the Steelers missing some starters?”
Heh heh. Did I ever promise to be modest?
I’m sure you’ll all be plenty quick to remind me about those paragraphs regarding the Dallas-Tennessee and Carolina-Detroit games, but hey, did you see those coming!!! I really wish I could have seen Quincy Carter play…he couldn’t have been more inept last week, yet somehow he rebounded to throw for 240 and 2 TDs. I’m going to be real cautious of picking the Titans for the rest of the year.
Also, I just watched every snap of the Sunday Night Game, and I want to say this. Don’t believe the stats, Rich Gannon had a very poor day. He got lucky that more of his balls weren’t picked off, and he had at least 2 easy touchdowns passes that he completely tanked. His receivers are going to be real sore tomorrow after being consistently hung out to dry and take big hits. Not a good idea when your starters average about 67 years old. This game shouldn’t have even been close, yet the Steelers got Kordelled just enough. Oh, and one more thing, did anyone notice how Kordell got a free pass from Thiesman and company on that fumble at the endzone? Dropped the snap, and then proceeded to flip it from his knees to the defender instead of falling on it and taking the 3 pts. Wow, do the Steelers even have a back up QB?
If anyone is curious, my pool is down to the final game tomorow to see if theres a winner this week. Everyone had a pretty solid week, including me going 4-1, and there are two guys left alive, one picked Philly and the other picked Washington. Odds are the pot won’t roll over again, unless the game is a push…which isn’t too unlikely for a 3pt spread. I’ll have my fingers crossed.
I watched every snap. What’cha want to know? Cowboys played a smart, effective game. No turnovers, only 2(?) minor penalties, and no stupid mistakes. Chased the Titan QBs around a good bit. Gave up some long 3rd downs early, but settled in and really put the clamps on.
Carter was really good. His passes were pretty. Nice spirals on a string, with a soft drop where necessary. Overthrew a couple; one especially that would have been a sure score, but no harm no foul. At one point, he had 7 or 8 consecutive completions, including some 3rd and long conversions, with one 32-yard gain on a 3rd & 19.
They still couldn’t run the ball, but that may be more indicative of the Titans stacking 8 against the run (under the assumption that Carter would be ineffective throwing).
This is the type of game I expected last week. Even with the loss, I could see that they have a lot to work with, especially on defense. If Carter can rise to this level consistently, the Cowboys could be a wild card.
(And how about that Vikings game? You think that kicker will be reading the want ads in the morning?)
First of all, those fucking piece of shit gerbils in the servers cost me a nice long post! Is there anything more aggrivating?
divemaster, thanks for the input. I assume you watched the Texan’s game as well. Do you argee with my percaption that Carter was horrible? I conceed that the Cowboys have a average, capable receiving corp. And their defense has potential, no question. However in seeing Carter’s performance in week 1, I noticed that even most of his completed passes were off target. He’d leave running backs in the flat hanging to dry, and threw the ball in places that left the receivers with not chance to run after the catch. This is besides the fact that he threw a few balls closer to defenders than receivers, and frequently over and under threw open players. I’m thinking that the next few weeks will determine that one of the two weeks was a fluke for him.
How much time did McNair miss due to the injury? He looked really out of sorts in the final drive, and it didn’t appear to be due to much pressure form the 'Boys.
Shibbs, sorry I missed your bet until now. Its pretty clear that I’m gonna whip you ass this week, so I’ll let you off the hook for a few reasons. 1) We never did the internet handshake on it. 2) The most fun part would be the heckling and smack talked building up to it, and it seems we missed that since we were both a little preoccupied with IRL still. 3) I can’t think of anything creative of humorous to give you for a sig.
However, congrats on the nailing the OMNI picks this week, its so tough to do.
Gazoo, just wanted to let you know that I like the idea you and your boy are working on. I’ve alays been looking for a site like that, but just assumed that I was too inept to find it or it was in some premium service I wasn’t signed up for. Vcould be a nice deal.
Also, you’ve really got to stop putting your faith in those heathen Packers. I’d like to be meaner, but I was a weenie and ignored my more malicious urges and picked them too. I can tell you that karma will never let me use them as and OMNI pick though.
