NFL Predictions Week 3

Could someone please explain to me how to read the Vegas odds?

I assume I don’t have to explain “favorite” The first number is the spread, i.e

St. Louis @ SEATTLE 3, 47.5
Seattle is the Favorite, represented by all CAPS. 3 in the line is the spread, which means Seattle’s margin of victory is at least three points. So if someone said St. Louis covers, then they mean Seattle would win but by less than three points. If St. Louis should win that’s out the window. The last number is the over/under. This is the combined score of both teams. So when someone says under, they believe the combined score of both teams will be under that 47.5, over the opposite. When you have a decimal point in either number, that’s Vegas hedging their bets.

Clear?

Yep. 1st defense and 2nd offense against the 22nd defense at 31st offense… they never had a chance.
Go browns.

That Green Bay / Arizona “gimme” game cost me $180.

Ouch.

Ouch. Twas a wierd Sunday, wasn’t it?

My big game o’ the weak was AZ over Green Bay. I have to collect from about half a dozen people today on that one.
Hey, always look for irony: AZ cools down a HoF QB and Cleveland stuffs the run. Love irony.

I’m up 180 bucks.

Note for next week: Favre will explode and so will any RB against Cleveland.

Unbelievable, unfricken believable. The Niners game cost me money, My hope is riding on Denver. Just watch they’ll have a melt don or something.

Stuffy my brother… Let us now sit back in sympathy and tea and whilst we do so, not note that Seattle is undefeated…My man, we ain’t lookin’ too good right now. Bot, my dispair does not run deep as the season is still young, and the cardinals have yet to come to town. Let us pray…mumblemumblemumble

Go Niners!!!

I’m not sure if “hedging their bets” is the right interpretation. I mean, all a decimal point signifies is that there can’t be any tied bets; you either win or you lose. Seems to me that this can cost the house money on some days, but win it money on others.

Looks like I spoke too soon. 17 penalties for 143 yards. If they just hadn’t committed those two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, they would’ve won.

There are also “money lines”.

You might see:

Miami [-160] Buffalo [+260]

For example, you bet on Miami -160 to beat Buffalo +260. You must bet $160 to win $100 if Miami wins the game. Your friend bets on Buffalo. Your friend must bet $100 to win $260 if Buffalo wins.

I’m not ready to give up on 'em yet. Unliker some Raiders fans I know who’ve been moping around all week.

Oops mhendo I was just having fun with their inability to commit, one way or another. That and I hate typing .5 six or seven times a week.
After next weeks games I’m thinking of doing a quarter season, sort of a jump to conclusions thread. Anyone interested?

Well, we’re still in the first quarter and if things keep going like this, Oakland is NOT going to cover.

But the OVER definitely looks like a good call.

21-zip at the quarter!

Pro:

TB - 4 over Atl. (W)
Pit. - 4.5 over Cin. (W)
KC - 7.5 over Hou. (W)
NYG + 2.5 over Was. (W)
GB - 7.5 over Ari. (L)
STL + 3 over Sea. (W)
Den - 5.5 over Oak. (W)

College:

Fla. - 3.5 over Ten. (L)
Ore. + 7.5 over Mich. (W)
Ken. - 8,5 over Ind. (W)
Pit. - 9.5 over Tol. (L)
Geo. + 1 over LSU (L)

I better stick with the Pros.

Good call. Especially since the “overrated” Baltimore D was playing without their 2nd best player ( after Ray Lewis ). Bolts blew them right out of the stadium, didn’t they?

I couldn’t watch the game tonight because of school, but WOO FUCKING HOO!!!
I honestly don’t know what makes me happier. When the Broncos win or the Raiders lose.

Two missed field goals didn’t help the cause either.

Can’t say I’m overly surprised, they’ve done this to us for as long as I can remember.

Well all is right with the world. I’m waiting for my favorite Raiders fan to show up, it’s payback time!!!
