broccoli - Well, there’s going to be some…pretty much unavoidable with the kind of yards we got. But I’m takin’ it easy. The Bengals really only won because the Lions couldn’t put away a doughnut. They’re actually doing this year what the Cardinals do nearly every game, shockingly enough.
Can’t believe what happened in the Tampa Bay-Minnesota game, though. Forty-one points to that offense?? Is a one-score loss just not good enough for these guys or something?
everyone - Am I the only one who’s really, really sick of hearing about the '72 Dolphins? Year after year after year after year…look, the won ONE Super Bowl. The Cowboys and 49ers have each won FIVE. And the Dolphins haven’t been remotely in contention in ages and wasted the best quarterback they ever had. AND FURTHERMORE, 14-0 is the same, standings-wise, as 15-1, a mark which has been reached at least twice.
Enough about the has-been Dolphins! Live in the present!
(Honestly, I’m thinking of writing to ESPN just on this dumb annual ritual…)
Two, actually: they won in 1974 as well as 1973.
My memory’s fuzzy, but as far as ‘wasting’ Marino, didn’t they get to one Super Bowl with him (1985, I think, losing to Montana and the 49ers)?
The difference between 14-0 and 15-1 may be zero games in the standings, but it’s the difference between 1.000 and .9375.
I almost never hear about the '72 Dolphins, myself, but then I get my norts spews mostly through the newspapers and online, and just watch the games on TV.
RTFirefly, you are correct on both points. Let’s not forget that the Dolphins went 17-0 when you include post-season, BTW. DKW, when someone else even goes 16-0 we’ll talk.
And to say they haven’t been even remotely in contenton since then is simply asinine. How about the two superbowls losses? That’s pretty damn close, not to mention the numerous AFC east championships and wild card berths since?
As far as wasting Marino - where was Elway before TDavis? How many Super Bowls did Jim Kelley win with a great rushing game? Puhhlease!
Good thing the Rams have a bye coming up. They can take that time to practice holding onto the football!
Christ, fellas, what do we need to do to keep you from losing the ball? Do we need to get your moms out there to saftey pin it to the sleeves of your jerseys?
Gazoo, I’m venting here. Yes, the Broncos finally got a real running back, but it took that management a damn long time to get on the ball. As far as I’m concerned, not putting some run support…and blocking, can’t ever forget blocking…behind a future Hall of Fame QB is wasting him.
Believe me, if I actually were a Dolphins fan, I’d go WAY beyond “asinine”. Count yer blessings, pal.
Shibb, dear, what was the link in the word happy supposed to mean? I’m afraid I don’t understand.
Yes, I am smiling, I went to school Monday in my jersey saying, “My Big Badass Buccaneers kicked some ass Sunday!!!” and I sure was smiling then. I sincerely hope that we can keep this offense, whoever it is, for a few more games. Actually, until the end of the season, and then we’ll give them back, I promise.
Richmond Webb, Dwight Stephenson, and Keith Simms were multiple pro-browlers. I don’t think blocking was a problem for the Marino era Dolphins. I do think that Sammy Smith, Bobby Humphries, Cecil Collins, JJ Johnson, Karim Abdul Jabbar, etc. were bad draft picks and/or player moves and that the Broncos got lucky on a 6th round pick with Davis.
