NFL Season #106, Week 1

Most of the chatter today seems to omit a lot of context.

An Eagles player was badly injured on the opening kickoff and needed to be carted off. This led to the Cowboys offense and Eagles defense being on the field for an extended period of the time before the first snap of the game. The network went to commercial and the players were basically milling around, but were doing so with maximum adrenaline.

While the rivals were on the field waiting they are no doubt trying to stay hyped. There’s certainly a lot of shit talking happening off camera. For some bizarre reason Jalen Carter leaves his huddle and is pacing around close tot the Cowboys huddle all by himself. He’s 5-10 yards past the ball and has no business there. This is getting close to the resumption of the game so the Cowboys are huddling up and getting ready to start setting up to play.

Carter is maybe trying to eavesdrop of the play call or listen in on their prep. Maybe he’s saying some ridiculous shit just to try and piss people off. Whatever he’s doing, he’s way out of his lane and is stirring shit up.

Dak, being the QB giving instruction and also being the one facing the ball, sees Carter and steps up to tell him to get his ass away from the huddle. There’s a lot of jawing back and forth as Dak moves forward. Dak stops when he gets to the edge of the huddle and spits between his lineman on the ground in Carter’s direction.

Carter then stops backing up and comes forward to get in Daks face. At this point it’s front and center. The refs are there, the Cowboys trainer is there, the cameras are there. More talk from both sides. As Carter finally starts backing up again he spits on Daks chest. Dak doesn’t react except to look at the Ref.

So yeah, Dak spit on the ground first (as far as we know). And Dak probably did it to antagonize Carter. But Carter had been stirring shit pretty consistently and largely instigated the entire exchange.

Jalen Carter was ejected because he was being stupid. He’s not the first guy to be ejected for that and he won’t be the last. Heck, that’s the story pretty much any time a player is ejected.

This YouTube broadcast made up of YouTube personalities is grating. But I could use more Kay Adams in my life.

Are we going to have a tedious halftime show at every international game?

Here we go, Chargers!! Get another TD to seal this, please.

I only watched a little of it, but Derek Carr was really good in the 10 minutes of pregame I watched.

This smells like the end of so many annoying Chiefs games, just hanging around until the seat-of-the-pants finish.

ETA: Justin Herbert on the hoof!

Terrible decision by Chris Jones to rush inside and give up contain. Chargers offense could be hot this year if Quinton Johnson has figured out how to catch.

Agreed. I drafted Johnston in the dynasty league and was encouraged by this game. It was looking grim there for a while but hopefully he’s turned the corner.

My other bench guy who sparked this game was Hollywood Brown. Had a bad drop on 3rd and 9 to start the game, or early in it at least. But then Mahomes kept feeding him the ball and he produced quite nicely.

Just in terms of football, the Chargers looked good and Herbert looked great.

EDIT: The 30-40 minute long condensed games on NFL+ Premium are pretty awesome.

So I’ve got to take my hat off to the Dallas Cowboys and their fans that they would make a handicapped person the second highest paid receiver in the league is just inspiring.

We also pay blind players a lot too.

It has now been 9 or 10 season without a working offensive line for the {\color{blue}\mathbf{GIANTS}}, will they ever figure it out?

They look bad so far this game.

Danny Dimes having a day!

Classic game from the Browns today.

Giants looking rough. Russell Wilson was looking completely done in the first half, but then finally started throwing the ball down the field and over the middle instead of everything short to the sidelines. He completed a few nice passes that way, including a beautiful 20-yard rainbow to Theo Johnson over the middle that got called back for a ticky-tack holding call.

Overall Giants looked bad. The only thing I can say positive about the team is that Wilson probably did enough in the second half to keep the starting job another week.

I thought the defense looks OK, but the offense was dreadful.

Damn you Seahawks, why do you do this so often. Freaking stressing me out with these close games.

Packers MIGHT just win this…

Brian

And then it looks like a red zone fumble is going to end this with a loss, when it looked like Seattle had this in the bag. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Yep, a loss, and a real fluke of a play where Darnold got his own tackle pushed into his elbow as he was throwing to knock the ball out.

Oof, the finish of that game.
