Even though they lost this game makes me feel good about Seattle.
The defense was solid, and the offense did enough. Darnold did what he had to, playing conservatively until the end of both halves. First half they got down for a last second FG to have a lead at halftime. And at the end he got it down field quickly and if it wasn’t for that one disaster (that I don’t blame him for) it would have been another late game winning drive on his resume.
Texans lost to the Rams on a fumble in the red zone with less than 2 minutes left, trailing by 5. Falcons lost to TB on a missed chip shot FG at the buzzer which would have tied the game. Titans lost at Denver, recording 4 3-and-outs in the 4th quarter. Browns and Jets both lost in no small part because of a missed extra point.
Justin Fields looked good for the Jets. I would trade Russell Wilson for him in a heartbeat. Rodgers looked good enough for the Steelers. Their defense, not so much.
Ha! It’s definitely funnier if he now plays well in Indianapolis, so I’m rooting for him.
Fields looked solid, but I would bet that once teams see how the Jets are deploying him, they’ll adjust and the bottom will fall out before midseason. Unless the Hall/Allen tandem can consistently dominate the Jets will struggle to move the chains.
Generally it seemed that, across the league, both Special Teams and the running game struggled. I didn’t really see any team that looked like a complete train wreck at QB which is a surprise on Week 1.
Yeah. Plenty of middling and unimpressive days from the passers. But none that I would call a crisis. In most years is seems like someone has a Levis-level implosion in week 1.
Given the history, the team they were playing, and garbage time padding of stats , I would say Bryce Young’s 18-35 154, 1 td, 2 int was pretty Will Levis-esque.
You and me both. At the end there I really thought Darnold was going to pick us apart and score their winning TD. He started doing that, until the Bosa play and recovery.
The Tonges TD catch for the winning score was damned lucky, and a great play by him. He sure rescued Purdy because I thought that pass was picked.
