Fun to see Tirico acknowledge the Scorigami too…
I totally had tuned out the game when it was 40-25.
Just think of all the Bills fans who left the stadium when it was 40-25.
Fun fact, the game-winning FG was kicked by 41-year-old Matt Prater, the oldest current player in the NFL. He was signed to thr Bills’ practice squad last week but got called in to start when their regular kicker was injured before game day.
Just woke and saw the score. Dang. I knew it was a scorigami.
The commercials for redzone weren’t TOO bad, but I still strongly object due to principle. I only watched redzone here and there so I may have missed some of the more objectionable uses but I mostly saw ads when there were fewer games left and there was sort of a lull in the action and they were reasonably short.I usually get nfl premium plus for redzone but I’m probably not going to this year out of principle.
But this is the way of enshittification. Most people are going to object to any ads at all, so they’ll bring them in very slowly with only a small number of ads at opportune times, and then they’re going to bring in more and more as people get used to it. It’s worth boycotting paying any extra for redzone this year to send a message.
They were short and not terribly intrusive, I thought. And none during the Witching Hour.
But, as you say, it won’t end there.
Is there a good “this week’s summary” like Peter King’s MMQB/FMIA? I liked it as it was fairly short, and I could skip the paragraphs I wasn’t interested in. Just some interesting stats and maybe a human interest paragraph (which again i could skip) maybe offensive/defensive/special teams player(s) of the week.
Thanks,
Brian
Here in New England, Tom Brady’s
Raiders came into town and beat the Patriots. Neither side looked very good to me. A rather messy game overall, it was pouring rain for much of it. I’m no football guru, but it seemed like 20-13 was fair reflection of the game.
Fans seem to be willing to give Vrabel more rope than they did Jerod Mayo last year, where calls for his head even before the season started.
Coming in to play their former head coach, plus two head coaches connected by history. Not much of a game, but yeah, fair outcome.
This isn’t a bad recap
What’s odd is that 40-25 feels like a total rout when it’s only a two score game.
Right? I think part of it is that 40 feels like such a big number that it suggested even more numbers to come.
I wasn’t quite about to throw in the towel for that reason (my wife is from Buffalo, so we were watching the game intently.) I thought it was a great and unlikely comeback, but it didn’t compare to other comeback I’ve seen, like that Patriots Super Bowl however many years back. The stats I saw pop up from the NFL Facebook page said, at its lowest, Buffalo had a 1.1% chance of winning. Yes, those are pretty slim odds. With 272 games in the season, we should see about one to two more comebacks like this this season. If my math is right, it’s about a 58% chance there’s three of these 1.1% comebacks this season, and a little more than a third that there’s 4. But there’s still a 20% chance this is the comeback of the season, which I guess surprises me a little.
What happened at the end of the SEA-SF game? I had to use ESPN Gamecast and I saw the Seahawks were in the red zone for a potential win then all of the sudden Purdy was kneeling on a 2 and 18 to win.
I certainly will not argue with your math, but I don’t remember a whole lot of games where a team has been down 15 points with less than 4 minutes to play and has come back to win in regulation. Your post indicates that the probability is very good for seeing another comeback like this (or better) this season, which I would strongly disagree with.
Darnold fumbled at the 16 after a sack and SF recovered. Seahawks had the ball 2nd and 5 at the 9 with about a minute to play.
Aaron Rodgers would like to have a word with you.
Too many commercials.
This on YouTube was pretty good. Is a compilation of greatest plays but does not stitch together a narrative summary of the games, unfortunately.
The “New Bears” kick off for the first time tonight! I’m cranked!!

Yeah, the article I was reading said Prater was the oldest, but checking it seems that while he and Rodgers are both 41, Rodgers is 8 months older.
There’s also tight end Mercedes Lewis, who is a few months older than Prater (but still younger than Rodgers). He hasn’t retired but isn’t officially signed to a team, as his one year contract with the Bears ended and while he said he expected to be re-signed, it doesn’t look like that’s happened as far as I can tell. So I don’t know that he counts as a “current player”.
It was a good day for the two old guys though for sure!
