NFL uploading 96 (old) games to Youtube this August

As voted on by NFL fans on Facebook, 96 of the most memorable games in NFL history will be uploaded to the NFL’s official YouTube channel this August.

There are LOTS and LOTS of full NFL games on youtube, but they’re generally low quality (some as low as 360p) so hopefully these official uploads will be at least 720p, preferably 1080p.

Let’s hear your criticism of the three games chosen for your team. I’ll start:
NEW YORK GIANTS

Super Bowl XLII – Giants vs. Patriots (59%)

  • Classic Re-air. David Tyree catch.

2007 NFC Championship Game – Giants vs. Packers (17%)

  • Giants upset win at Lambeau. Cold weather game.

Super Bowl XXV – Giants vs. Bills (11%)

  • Norwood “wide right.”
Well, geez, this is tough. Those two Superbowls are hard to argue, as they both appear near the top of most “best Superbowls in history” lists. (For example, Ranking the Super Bowls has XLII at #2 and XXV at #5, which is about right.)

The Packers conference championship is a good game, for sure, but it’s hard not including the 1990 conference championship against the 49ers. I’ll never forget that Leonard Marshall hit on Joe Montana, and Montana’s quote from the sideline reporter: “I hurt all over.”

One thing I find interesting is that both games I’m debating for the third spot were the conference championship games immediately preceding the two Superbowls in this list. The Giants have had some magical postseasons.

While I’m here:

NEW YORK JETS

2010 AFC Division playoff – Jets vs. Patriots (37%)

  • Rex Ryan team upsets Bill Belichick’s Patriots, 28-21.

Super Bowl III – Jets vs. Colts (31%)

  • Joe Namath leads upset win.

2000 Week #8 - Jets vs. Dolphins (27%)

  • Big Jets comeback: “Monday Night Miracle.”
I can’t really comment meaningfully on Jets history as I didn’t become a Jets fan until Parcells took over the team in 97. However, I was at the Monday Night Miracle.

We almost left the game early, and thankfully we decided to institute our videogame standard “25 point rule”: Once we were down by 25 or more, we’d leave since we both had to work the next morning. Since the Jets “only” fell behind by 23, that meant we stayed to the bitter end.

Not many fans followed suit, though, so after the third quarter ended we had our pick of seats. (Not counting the lowest level, where ushers were still checking tickets.) So we headed over to the mezzanine at around the 20 yard line of the endzone the Jets would be scoring at for the 4th quarter, all the way down to the railing. Great seats!

I have repeatedly kicked myself for years for not taping that game. I’m pumped to finally be able to see the broadcast after all these years.

I can think of 6 Steelers games I’d like them to upload off the top of my head. Also, pretty much any Steelers-Ratbirds games, those are all classic even if Pittsburgh lost.

I’d expect Super Bowls XIII, XIV and XLIII at the minimum, though.

No Cardinals beating the Cowboys in the playoffs?

Well, that’s what I get for missing the link in the OP. 2 were predictable since this is apparently of recent vintage, and the third I have no objection to since that is a big part of more recent Steelers lore (Ben’s tackle, Bettis’ fumble, Polamalu getting jobbed out of a game-clinching pick). No objections here.

I think they’re going for close games. That final score of 20-7 looks pretty lopsided.

“Recent” being a subjective term. Just be glad your team has recent games to choose from. Consider the poor Bills fans, whose three selections are all from ~25 years ago, for obvious reasons.

(Similarly, I see one of the Bengals selections is from 81, and two of the 49ers selections are from the 80s.)

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

2006 AFC Championship Game – Colts vs. Patriots (42%)

Peyton Manning comeback vs. Patriots.

2013 AFC wild card – Colts vs. Chiefs (20%)

Andrew Luck leads great comeback to win 45-44.

Super Bowl XLI – Colts vs. Bears (15%)

Love it. Two of our greatest comebacks (and two of the greatest comebacks of all-time), and our lone Super Bowl win in Indianapolis.

For the Seahawks, one of the choices was Super Bowl XLVIII, which wasn’t exactly close. I actually wouldn’t mind if they replaced that with the surprising playoff victory over the Saints after their 7-9 season (the game which featured the Beastquake), but these are a reasonable three choices.

I agree with all three choices for the Buccaneers. I don’t put it down to a great job by the NFL but a sad statement to just how few memorable games we’ve had. :frowning:

So I guess this never happened?

As a Jets fan, I have to say that there are many more painful losses to remember as there are great wins. I am fine with the three wins that they put up there, but I had to check 3 of the most painful losses, and see if the opposing teams thought of them as great wins. The three games that come to mind immediately are the 1986 AFC divisional game against the Browns (Gastineau late hit extends drive, Jets give up 10 points in last 4 minutes, lose in double overtime), 1994 Week 13 vs Dolphins (fake spike), and 1983 AFC Championship game vs Dolphins (Mud Bowl). The first two are there, the third isn’t. It seems the Dolphins fans are hung up on their perfect season, as well as ending other teams perfection. I would think that Marino’s only AFC Championship game win would get in there before the fake spike, but I hate Dolphins fans, so what do I know?

Eh, there’s 7 days left!

Two of the three Packers winning games are Superbowls-good in general, but they aren’t my vote for most memorable.

I’d pick:

The Ice Bowl. I’d sure like to see more of the game than just the winning touchdown. The game was like Woodstock - more people said they were there than there were seats. Of course, if there is no copy available, that would hinder it being added.

The “Improbable Bobble” game - the MNF OT game in the rain against Minnesota. The Vikes had a chance to win in regulation with a chip shot FG, but this was the one time where the “icing the kicker” timeout actually worked. In OT, Antonio Freeman caught the greatest catch of all time (more or less).

The 2010 season Conference championship. Bears and Packers! It doesn’t get more perfect football than that. I think it was the first time they’d ever played the championship game against each other, despite the rivalry going back to the age of the dinosaurs. What a game!

As for the losing Packers games in the list, they sure are memorable. In fact, I wish I could forget them!

Nice!

It reminds me of Jason Sehorn’s interception, which wasn’t as impressive mechanically (and also was caused by himself, not an opponent) but has the added bonus of scoring a touchdown.

Keep hope alive!

I agree that those are solid game choices for the Seahawks, who have sort of the inverse of the Bills problem: they really hadn’t ever been good until recently, so all the games chosen are from the last few years.

Oh, and why do the Panthers (theoretically) get 5 games chosen? I can’t believe that they had more compelling games than any of the other teams.

It’s funny you mention the 2010 Championship game because I was just talking about this with Ms. Cups yesterday. That game will always be known in my mind as the Tim Masthay game. The Packers kept getting stopped in 3rd, but Tim effing Masthay punted the game of his life and pinned the Bears back every. single. time. He’s struggling now, but I will always consider him the secret MVP to that Super Bowl.

As for the Packer game picks. Good choices, but I would take Favre’s Super Bowl and replace it with Super Bowl I.

The Favre era is covered enough with his amazing Raiders game, the Aaron era is fine with the Super Bowl, and the “classic” era should be represented by either Supes I or the Ice Bowl. I don’t really care either way. A franchise such as ours has enough history that you don’t HAVE to have Super Bowls

One Houston Oilers game on that list - and of course it’s that game.

Good question!

And why do the Packers show up so many times as someone else’s opponent? There are 10 games where the Pack is on the losing side to someone else, vs only the three winning games.

Makes us look like the Washington Generals of the NFL!
