Josh Gordon looked every bit as dominant as he was all last year despite missing the first 10 weeks of the season and being unable to practice with his teammates. He put up a mere 8 rec/120 yards, which is a fairly middling effort from him, but that’s mostly because Hoyer repeatedly botched throws to him when Gordon was wide open. An only slightly better effort from Hoyer and Gordon goes over 200 easily. Man among boys out there.
All teams in the AFC North have 7 wins. Cinci is in the lead since they have a tie instead of a loss.
Cinci plays: @TB, PIT, @CLE, DEN, @PIT.
Cleveland: @BUF, IND, CIN, @CAR, @BAL.
Pittsburgh: NO, @CIN, @ATL, KC, CIN
Crackmore: SD, @MIA, JAX, @HOU, CLE
Those are some huge divisional games to finish out the schedule. The division really is up for grabs. There’s a good chance it comes down to the final week when CLE/BAL and PIT/CIN play. The Browns picked a shitty year to be pretty decent in, when you might have to have 11 wins to have a shit at the wildcard. Meanwhile 6 wins might win you the NFC South.
It’s a recent policy called “cross-flexing.” Link.
I think the fact that CBS got an “extra” game on Thursday nights for the first third of the season played into this. The idea being that the NFL wanted to put good matchups in those Thursday night games, potentially “robbing” Fox of the good NFC matchups that got put on Thursday. So cross-flexing allows them to balance it out.
As a consolation, just like last week, I load the philly fan eagles page and all anyone wants to talk about is… TWO TURNOVERS!!! Sheesh. We fucking WON, fellow Philly douchebags. That’s the thing, we don’t hate any other team more than our own.
There was a holding call that kind of peeved me. D-lineman grabs the RB guy coming across out of the backfield, then lets him go to go after the QB. As I saw it, he was preparing to tackle the ball carrier, then realized the RB did not have the ball. These guys have to react to an offense that is trying to fool them, AFAICT, the league wants points, not so much of the D.
Not feeling good about the Browns/Bills games. In addition to the 4 huge d-line injuries, Dansby, Gipson, and Gilbert are out. I think the defense is running 2/3 starters at this point, depending on whether you consider the starting nickelback moving to the outside as a starter.
And their D-line is top notch. The backup center wilts under good defensive line play and the whole unit gets crushed. Ends up wrecking our whole inside zone game. It’s how Jacksonville beat us.
Every game is critical from here on out for every team in the AFC North, but while I think at full health we’d just blow through buffalo, the injuries we’ve got are pretty much a worst case scenario.
