Given the abysmal play in the 2nd half of their top stars, I think we have to consider the KC dynasty to be dead in the water. I was never a fan per se but given their talent they rarely failed to impress me, and quite a number of times left me in total awe. Sic transit gloria mundi.
Butker went too far right yet again, and that doink is a perfect encapsulation of the Chiefs’ season.
I hadn’t watched the game, but looking at the box score…Mahomes’ stats for the night were atrocious. ![]()
It was literally the worst game of his entire career, statistically.
Mahomes closed the game with 42.4% of completed passes, 160 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Last year that doink would have gone through. At the end of the game. For the win. As I’ve said before, this season is payback for all those bizarre last-second wins last season.
The good thing about the Chiefs season being in the toilet is now I have three hours to do something else on Sundays!
They’re still (mathematically) in the hunt for the postseason via a wild card. But it now seems unlikely that even the Chiefs players seriously believe this will happen.
The Houston defense recently completely dismantled Allen, too. I wonder if they’ve got a very savvy defensive coach that’s good at designing plays and schemes against specific opponents.
Highly unlikely, as right now the three wild-card teams (Texans, Bills, Chargers) all hold the tiebreaker over the Chiefs. KC plays the Chargers this Sunday, but the Chargers would still have a better record even if KC wins that game.
The Chiefs are done this year. Time to find some guys who can catch the ball and a power running back.
Texans have won five in a row. They finish with the Cardinals, Raiders, Chargers, and Colts. They could win all four of those games, which might give them the division crown, or they’d be a damn dangerous wild-card team.
I would have thought they could have gotten some mileage out of Hollywood Brown, but I guess not.
Well, yes, the head coach DeMeco Ryans was the DC out in SF before getting the Houston job and was a pretty decent mike linebacker himself back in the day. The near instant improvement on defense after he got hired was almost shocking.
Their issues over his tenure so far have been more on the offensive side of the ball. Having Stroud helps but you can only do so much with a porous offensive line and a limited run game (itself exacerbated by said offensive line). That’s some combination of coaching and scouting that needs to improve.
Caleb Williams certainly makes things interesting. I’m not sure he can run a NFL offense well, but give him (or if he gives himself) 5 or 6 seconds to throw, and he can really impress.
It is nice to see Bears fans hopeful.
See ya in 2 weeks.
ESPN still gives KC a 14% of making the playoffs, which is insanely high. How much of their models are the “We have to continue to make it seem the Chiefs aren’t terrible to keep all the Taylor Swift fans onboard” orders that the announcers are clearly following. A few defensive 3 & outs in the 3rd quarter last night and Collinsworth and Tirico were ready to just give Mahomes the Lombardi trophy right then and there.
A QBR of 19.8
Still not as bad as Tony Romo, who has an insane man-crush on Mahomes.
And I’m a Chiefs fan.
I get it, though. Mahomes is still a great QB. But that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee (some places, anyway).
Not going to fix a bunch of dropped passes, an aging Kelce, an O-line that needs upgrades, or moribund scheming.
Yeah, it’s ridiculous.
What was once a promising season for the Colts continues to spiral the drain.
Not only did the team confirm that QB Daniel Jones tore his right Achilles tendon yesterday, but his replacement, rookie Riley Leonard, suffered a knee injury during the loss to the Jaguars. It’s not yet known how severe the injury is, or whether Leonard will miss time.
The Colts don’t have any other quarterbacks on their active roster; journeyman Brett Rypien is on their practice squad, but seems likely to be elevated. Rypien has four career NFL starts, the last being with the Rams in 2023.
It’s awfully late in the season for an achilles tear. Will he be able to start week 1 next year, I wonder?
I would hypothesize that it’d be a push to do so, though it might be possible. The general consensus is that healing, after surgery, takes 4 to 6 months, but full rehabilitation for a professional athlete is often about a year.
