NFL Week 14

It really depends on both the person and the severity of the tear. If it’s not a complete rupture and he takes his rehab seriously, he could well be ready for next season. Of course, a year or more is also entirely possible. No real clue until we get more news on the severity of the injury.

But in related news, Indy is truly desperate. They’re trying out Phillip Rivers (!?). I mean….a 44 year old QB is one thing but he hasn’t played in 5 years.

To be fair, he only turned 44 years old today.

If they’re trotting out pastured QBs, Peyton Manning seems a natural fit for the Colts. He’s not even 50 yet! Though it might be a bit awkward after being inducted to the HoF

Their rookie TE Tyler Warren was a starting QB in high school and was recruited to Penn State at the QB position before moving to TE. He’s reportedly their other emergency option.

Bring back Kaepernick! He’s only 38. I’d love to see Trump’s head explode if he took the field.

All of this suddenly reminds me of when Jim Brown was making noises about coming out of retirement, and suiting up for the Raiders, in 1984, at age 47. Apparently, a big part of that was Brown taking umbrage at Franco Harris closing in on his career rushing yards record.

Both Guy Lafleur and Mario Lemieux made comebacks after being elected to the hockey HoF.

While true, the Hockey Hall of Fame has a shorter waiting period for induction (three years after retirement) than does the Pro Football Hall of Fame (five years) – and the Hockey Hall can waive the waiting period if they want to. Lafleur only missed three seasons before returning, and Lemieux only missed two.

Gordie Howe also came out of retirement (to play in the WHA with his sons) after being retired for two seasons.

Their next opponent is Seattle, so I’m okay with this.

Jalen Hurts had two turnovers on the same play, which can’t be too common.

He first threw an interception, but during the return, the defender lost the ball. Hurts recovered it, then managed to fumble when he was tackled, and the Chargers fell on the ball. Bizarre.

…And the game ends in overtime, with a Jalen Hurts interception.

It’s so uncommon, that is the first time that such a thing has ever been recorded.

I’d be feeling a lot better about the AFC West if that game had at least ended in a tie. Imagine a Chargers-Broncos game in Week 18 for all the marbles. It could happen.

That wasn’t a game that inspired confidence in either team, yet one will probably win its division and the other will probably get the top wild card spot in their respective conferences.

Because I just don’t feel like looking up the rules - if Hurts had the opportunity, could he have made another forward pass, given the change in possession on the play?

I don’t believe so. Even though there had been two changes of possession, it’s still the same play, and forward passes are limited to one per play.

I don’t think he could even if there wasn’t a first pass. Once there’s a change of possession, there isn’t a line of scrimmage. A defender who picks up a fumble can’t make a forward pass to a teammate.

Not sure the Chargers will “probably get the top wild card spot.”

They still have to play the 11-2 Broncos, the Texans who are on a 5 win streak, the Cowboys that have completely turned their team around and the unpredictable chiefs. The most winnable game of that lot is the chiefs and Vegas has them 4.5 point underdogs for that.

The Texans are a game back but their remaining games are against the cards, raiders, QBless Colts and Chargers. If they win out they beat the Chargers on tie-breakers even if the Chargers somehow win their other 3 games.

The Bills are only behind the chargers on tiebreaks and would be expected to beat the Jets and Browns and will probably favorites at home to the Eagles.

The Chargers will probably still make the play-offs but I think it most likely they will end up 7th seed.

As part of Jalen Hurts nightmare 5 turnover night, he became the first player in recorded NFL history to turn the ball over TWICE during THE SAME PLAY!

Midway through the second quarter, Hurts threw an interception over the middle to Chargers defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, who fumbled during the return. Hurts recovered the ball but fumbled it back to the Chargers as he was hit.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Hurts is the first player to commit two turnovers on the same play dating to 1978, which is as far back as its research goes.

Already been noted:

Dang, you guys are just too darn quick me for me! LOL

I guess I need to bring my laptop to the bar and post in real time!

I had to laugh when Chris Jones was being interviewed before the game and said something like “We’re exactly where we want to be at this point in the season.” I thought “You want to be one loss away from missing the playoffs?” There’s positive thinking, then there’s just being delusional.
