NFL Week 17

Clemons rumbles in on a 55-yard fumble return, and the people of Philadelphia struggle with a previously undiscovered emotion known as joy!

I don’t think anyone mentioned that Carolina clinched the NFC South, the Best Division in Football[sup]TM[/sup], after holding off a furious rally by the Saints. Drew Brees fell a mere 16 yards short of breaking Dan Marino’s passing record, although he had an amazing year anyway. And the Falcons clinched the first wildcard spot by topping St. Louis. And by losing to visiting Oakland, Tampa Bay choked away a spot that, based on Dallas’ performance to this point, would have been theirs.

Somehow Phil Savage got instafired but Crennel hasn’t. Bizarre.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

As did the Bears…

Barring a ridiculous comeback, the Vikings are going to host the Iggles next week. The Reid-Childress matchup might be an interesting talker if Chilly wasn’t so boring.

Miami leads the Jets 21-17 in a good game after a touchdown pass from Chad Pennington, who I’m going to forever call “The Count of Monte Cristo” if the 'fins win.

Since a Miami win kills both the Jets and Pats (the Ravens have pretty much sewn it up against the Jags) I think Parcells gets to be the Count, while the Jets and Pats get to be Danglars and Villefort.

Romo fumbles again!

I thought it was nice how the Green Bay fans started chanting 0 and 16 near the end of the game. It would be one thing if GB was good, but it seemed kind of lame and pathetic seeing as we both have an equal chance of making the super bowl this year.

Yeah, but the Jets didn’t throw Parcells over - he left them, and the Pats, by choice. Whereas Pennington got cut after the Favre trade, and he just beat Favre… well, it’s been discussed ad infinitum. Anyway, the Count of Monte Chadso it is!

I’m really, really happy that Miami is going to the playoffs–knocking out the Pats and the Jets in one fell swoop! WOO! Maybe this will finally, finally (please god please) be the last we hear of Brett “Most Interceptions Ever” Favre.

I just hope the Broncos can keep it together tonight.

The Miami-Baltimore game next week is really quite a story. Here are two teams that went a combined 6-26 last year meeting in the playoffs. Not only that, but in Miami’s disastrous 1-15 season, the only team they beat was the Ravens.

Time for revenge. Let’s go Ravens!

There are few things in football more satisfying than seeing Mike Shanahan on the end of a stomping. It’s made even sweeter by the fact that the Broncos were almost dead certainties to win the division three weeks ago. I was also happy to see my new hometown team come back from the dead to snag a playoff spot, although i really don’t think they can beat the Colts next week.

Despite hating the Boston sports scene and wanting to hate the Pats, I found myself rooting for them to make the playoffs. I was wondering if Bellichick could make the superbowl without Brady, which would pretty much seal him as the best coach ever.

Lost Brady a few minutes into the season, went 11-5 anyway, and missed the playoffs. That’s gotta suck.

I don’t think it needs said, but… Charger fan here.

Even as recently as our win against Kansas City… I was so down on our team. Sure we’d won two in a row, but we looked so bad against KC. In fact, despite the miracle comeback in that game: I don’t think I have EVER been as down on my team as I was that day. Not even during our 1-15 season.

Sure we were technically still alive, but I was sure that we would lose to Tampa. And even if we managed tow in that one, there was no way the Bronco’s would lose to Buffalo anyway.

Now, we not only have four straight wins- but we are FINALLY- looking like the team that we were supposed to be. After the Tampa game, i remarked to my Dad, “Well, where the hell have THESE guys been all year?” Tonights game was just a total dismantling. Obviously the Bronco’s hadn’t played well in the last month- but this game seemed like a statement.

I know we squeaked into the playoffs- but I think we are very dangerous.

That is all.

I was at the Packers / Lions game. I have to say we were all confused by the fair catch kick. I now REALLY wish Crosby had made it because it would have been the longest field goal in NFL history and I could have said I saw it live.

We were also worried about the fumble towards the end - were worried the Pack would find a way to blow it again.

Kinda feel sorry for the Lions, but didn’t want them to win THIS game.

(south endzone, in lambeau leap territory, but the wrong side)

I was actually going to ask about that. Would that technically count as the longest FG since it was a free kick?

FINALLY.

Romeo’s gone.

This 4 year nightmare is over.

Hopefully another one doesn’t begin.

Who do you think will be his replacement? Who do you *want *as his replacement?

I notice the Cardinals got stuck with the Saturday afternoon playoff game.

Looks like 3 coaches out so far: Mangini, Marinelli, and Crennel. I think Wade Phillips will be next. The Rams and perhaps the Raiders will also be searching for coaches.

Brett Favre MAKE UP YOUR MIND! I do not want to have to listen to your drama again next year.
