NFL Week 17

I gotta wonder if the Ryan boys ever get tired of boasting and not backing it up. Glad to see the Giants beat Dallas.

The amazing actually has happened.. I’m truly feeling sorry for Tim Tebow.. When he took the field with around 4-5 minutes to go in the fourth I wonder if even he believed he could complete enough passes to really keep the chiefs honest. The motion.. the slingback sammy baugh looking shit he does.. any dback with 4.5 speed can follow his gaze and break on that sumbitch like the last dinner roll at Ryan’s.
If Ryan Clark plays .. James Harrison will sit on the edge waiting for Tim to run that option.. Harrison won’t give a fuck what Tim does with the rock.. he figures if i can just keep knocking the hell outta you ..it won’t matter.
I seriously see the Steelers going the Chiefs three better.. Take the steelers my friend.. and the under..

17-0 in a game that George Halas would get a woody watching…

Wasn’t it Dallas that iced their own kicker a few weeks ago and cost themselves a game? I think the kicker made the first try, but it was waived off due to the timeout, then he missed the second time around. Had they not screwed the pooch on that one call, they’d have made the playoffs even with the loss last night…

You know, Phil Dawson never gets even the tiniest bit of recognition or respect as one of the great all timer kickers, but I’ve seen the guy kick in 30mph+ winds so many times. Occasionally he has to aim the ball like 30 degrees left of the damn posts, and you see the ball hook in. The guy is just one of the best bad weather kickers and he’s pretty much automatic from under 50. But I guess since he’s on a losing team he never gets the opportunity to make historic kicks so he never gets any credit.

Watch this video at 0:32 and 1:54. Actually, watch the whole video. That game is awesome. I always think of that game whenever I start to feel sympathetic to a dome team.

I’m just so delighted that the NFL playoffs will be entirely Ryan-free that I can hardly contain my enthusiasm on this fine Monday morning. Still the junior varsity, Rex, sorry.

Go Blue!

Yes, that was Dallas. HC Jason Garrett had a run of very questionable decisions the last few weeks of the season that pretty clearly cost the team at least two wins. I’m hopeful he’ll learn from his mistakes & improve–he’s a very young & inexperienced head coach, who is said to have a lot of potential. Frankly, I really hope Jones hires him a freaking offensive coordinator, so the poor guy can focus on the head coaching thing; somehow, though, I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Spagnuolo is cleaning out his desk. I’m mildly surprised that GM Devany was also fired.

Ahh next question is.. is Juan Castillo cleaning his out as well.. Spags won’t last on the open market very long..

As (maybe the only) a TB fan, I am wondering who will replace Morris. Actually, I am wondering if the Glazer family will finally decide to spend some goddamned money on getting talented people onto this team instead of relying on the one 15 year veteran and a bunch of “youngry” guys.

Hey, there’s the other Bucs fan.

  1. The lowest bidder.
  2. No.

You have to think Spagnulo might wind up back with the Eagles.

Only a matter of time before Raheem Morris gets a defensive coordinator job and becomes a hall of fame head coach with some other team.

Bill Polian and his son were fired.

This story made me smile. Now, NOW is when the Jets decide to shut their yaps. Heh.

Schadenfreude… people taking pleasure in your pain.

This story made me smile, too.

Spagnuolo to the Eagles is too clean, too neat, too easy. Things that make that much sense never happen. I can’t help but think Reid will stay loyal to his guy (Castillo has been with the Eagles since before Reid even came aboard) and not throw him under the bus.

Frankly, I wonder if Spagnuolo will even be a good scheme fit if the Eagles are going to be married to Jim Washburn and his D-Line philosophies. Which worked fantastically, for all the babbling about the wide-9 and the vulnerabilities against the run. The Eagles tied for first in the NFL with the most sacks, and they only got five all season from LBs or DBs (out of 50 total). They were middle of the pack against the run, even with their atrocious linebacker play.

Its amazing to look at a poorly run organization like the Jets and compare it with a team like the Packers, maybe the best run team in the NFL. A world of difference.

That came as a surprise to me. I thought Caldwell would be the first to get the boot (and he still might).

It also pretty much kills the idea the team was trying to tank the last game.

I’ve always been on the fence about how big an impact an NFL coach can have outside of game planning, schemes, and talent evaluation/development. But seeing the Jets implode with Ryan, the shenanigans going on in Detroit with Schwartz, the Dallas D collapse with the other Ryan, and the meteoric rise of the 49ers under Harbaugh, I think there’s a fair amount of evidence to support the idea that teams can and do take on the attitude of their head coach. At least this year.

Pretty absurd entrance for the Broncos to the playoffs. 7-3 is just about the lamest defeat you can get, but true to form they did the exact bare minimum necessary to squeak by.

I’d pick the Broncos to beat the Steelers 2-0.
