NFL Week 21 (Super Bowl XLIX game time thread)

I have an excellent bottle of mescal sitting on my liquor rack. Sure, mescal and mescaline aren’t remotely the same thing, but a good stiff drink after that halftime show couldn’t hurt.

Coming out of half this game feels a little like the NFC CG. Seemed like the Seahawks got dominated, but on the scoreboard it’s close (tied is obviously way better than down 16, but you get the point).

oh my, seattle must have had some starbucks during half time.

Can Seattle’s D hold up? They spent an eternity on the field in the first half.

interception??!

Hah! NE turns it over.

touchdown!

TD Seattle. Holy crap, there were members of the crowd closer to Baldwin than any of the NE defenders.

I wish they would’ve showed the touchdown celebration that got them the flag. Looks like he was pulling down pants to take a dump lol.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to specifically, but it was likely one of two scenarios:

The official ruled forward progress stopped before the player made it out of bounds, in which case he would wave his arm in a big circle and the clock would keep running, or

The clock doesn’t actually stop until the start of the next play upon a player going out of bounds except for the last 2 minutes of the first half, and the last 5 minutes of the second half. Otherwise the clock is only stopped until the ball is spotted and placed by the official.

Couple of football questions.

On the play right now, the punt that preceded this commercial, the Pats kicked and I’m guessing it was too far downfield to the Seahawks player that was there who just ignored the ball. But why did a Pats player dive towards the ball and tried to smack it?

On a previous play, where Sherman was rushing to try to get a touchdown at the 3 yard line or something, why didn’t he just jump? He was stuffed and got stopped at 2 yards I think. I’ve seen people jump over others into the end zone so I know its legal. I’m sure he could jump a few feet. Why don’t we see a lot more jumping?

NE makes a big stop.

If the kick goes in the end zone it comes back out to the 20 yard line. If they stop it short the ball stays where it’s at. Big advantage to the defense if the kicking team can down the ball inside the 5 yard line.

Way harder than it looks, and it’s usually not successful. High risk of a fumble and if you’re in the air you can’t use your strength or agility.

One of the referees accidentally threw a great block on that play. I didn’t see the block until a replay showed the play from a different angle.

Also, and this is very important, the kicking team player cannot be in the end zone when he touches the ball or it’s still a touchback, even if the ball stays out of the zone. Think of it as a basketball player trying to save the ball from going out of bounds.

that was one very stretched out shirt.

Well, it’s go-time to see if these guys will give me a lead change at this point…

If I were an NFL coach one of my first team rules would be no baggy sleeves and no untucked shirts. Drives me insane when I see a player tackled by loose clothing. Particularly QBs getting dragged down one handed by the shirt sleeves as a rusher is blocked past.

Edelman…so concussed right now.

Should have been a flag.

Pats fans can’t complain about that. Super common tactic in the red zone.
