Because he’s not only a dead end, but a POPULAR dead end. I wouldn’t touch him if I was Jax’s GM. What makes him appealing (stoking the fan base) makes him a headache to get rid of. Denver had to bring in Peyton Fucking Mannig to exorcise themselves of him safely.
Holy Shit! Atlanta is still in it!
not to be, though. crap.
You got that right. I’m having a hard time justifying taking time each Sunday to watch their games, they’re not doing anything worth watching. I watch the game to be entertained, not bored and frustrated.
Well the Ravens are the Super Bowl champs and the Eagles were supposed to have the #2 offense in the league. Still, you have a point. More a point if the Steelers were on the list ![]()
PFF had him graded at -3.7 for the game (that’s in “he’s really bad” territory). Here’s what they said:
"Ill-disciplined Mingo
Barkevious Mingo (-3.7) struggled in his first start as a pro. He generated a single sack as a pass rusher on 47 attempts, and he failed to beat a block on that play as he simply noticed Dalton beginning to scramble out of the pocket and tackled him a yard behind the line of scrimmage. Mingo did show the capacity to get his hands up and deflect passes (Q2, 5.26 and Q3, 4.35), but even that seemed not always to work out, as the first batted pass still found its way into the hands of the receiver. His run defense was also poor (-1.7), as he made just the solitary defensive stop and missed a tackle. Just as with his sack, Mingo’s tackle for a loss came as he cleaned up an already destroyed run early in the fourth quarter (13.08). One of the biggest issues was his failure to remain disciplined and keep outside contain on runs going away from him. Mingo often went flying down the line of scrimmage only to find the runner cutting back to where he should have been. Although he had a tough matchup against Andrew Whitworth (+4.5), Browns fans will surely expect more from their first-round pick."
Well, I was dead wrong about the line on the Bengals/Browns and Bears/Lions.
With the Bills coming to town on Thursday night, the Browns could be looking at a winning record! They are a 4 pt favorite already.
Hoyer looked good and the D was stellar. Mingo is a monster.
On a side note, The early line on Phi@NYG is NYG -2.5. That’s my early easy money pick for next week…put it all on Philly.
That seems incredibly harsh. For one thing, Dalton only attempted 42 passes, so I’m not sure how the 47 pass rushing attempts were calculated. Even then, did Mingo never drop into coverage?
And then they burn him because his sack and TFL were flukey plays? Please. And it almost sounds like he’s downgraded for one of his tipped passes being caught.
I was forced to listen to a portion of the game on the Bengals radio network and their announcers were giving Mingo high praise.
Good thing I don’t gamble on football.
Meh. I’m not sure I believe in that stuff.
Between the pick-6 and Cushing out with a concussion, it was going to be tough sledding.
That said, I’m actually encouraged by the fact Kubiak called for Schaub to pass on the 3rd down where he got intercepted. A safe running play and a punt would have been the safer bet, and the defense probably could have made one more stop to win the game, but the call itself was ballsy.
For all the grief Houstonians give Kubiak about being a conservative play caller, he hasn’t been guilty of it so far this year. Maybe it’s coming back to bite them a bit, but I don’t think fans are giving him credit commensurate with the griping they otherwise do.
Call it “will” or whatever, but they were trying to put the team away. It’s not like Seattle is a chump team incapable of coming back. They held the 49ers to 3 points two weeks ago and have the current top defense in the league. And take out the pick 6, and the Texans’ defense held them to 13 points.
Also, before the season began, I would not have been shocked if you told me the Texans would start the season at 2-3 with losses against the playoff teams (including the 2 Super Bowl teams). And they may yet beat the 49ers next week. I’m not happy about how they’ve won/lost so far, but the results aren’t out of line with reasonable pre-season predictions, especially with this rough series of games. Until/unless we lose to the Colts and Jaguars and Raiders, it’s not unreasonable to still expect to win the division.
Considering how the Ravens did last year, a few disappointing early season losses aren’t any real reason to start resorting to nebulous concepts like “momentum” or “will” or whatever.
What do you mean, “supposed to?”
Eagles are averaging 24.8 ppg, which puts them 11th in the NFL.
Why is it hard to understand? I didn’t see either play, but from the recounting, it sounded like the TFL was a guy falling on the ball to avoid a turnover after a fumble and the sack was caused more by the other part of the D line getting pressure and running Dalton to where Mingo was.
I think the point is that there is more to the game of football than the splash plays, and even those can be simply being in the right place right time. And the biggest complaint wasn’t about the splash plays, but more about him being out of position and having a negative impact in the run game.
I didn’t see the game, so I’m not one to ask, but if the game was played the way they describe it, I don’t see a problem putting the breaks on the Mingohype.
I think the biggest surprise for me so far is that there’s still a franchise in Jacksonville.
“The Los Angeles Jaguars”
Has a ring to it.
I’m sure Shad Khan and the NFL would love to move the team to London, but I can’t see that happening.
I said that after listening to the game on the radio, announcers were raging. Makes a lot more sense after reading this mornings paper.
I was still in a bit of shock that they actually won. Life-long Bills fan and I picked them to be 4-14, already 2-2. Playoff worthy? Hell no, but I think my pick of 4 wins is looking pessimistic.
Oh, we’re back to points now, is it? Is there some way we can keep track of the flip flops here? I’d just like some easy way to tell when we measure offense and defense by yards accumulated and allowed and when we’ve switched back to points. Like a sticky post, maybe.
I’m one of the few who ranks by yards.
My, you’re a bit tetchy.
If you want to point out that the Eagles are indeed #2 in the NFL in yardage, that’s fine. Make your case that that is the most important stat. I have no problem with you disagreeing or emphasizing yardage over points, that’s up to you. But I’m not so sure why you simply ignore points totals, especially in a Chip Kelly offense.
