NFL Week 5

I am proud of the Bengals defense…they played to win and they did. Snapped Brady’s 52 game streak of throwing for a TD they did. WHO DEY!

And Schaub does it again. He is really quieting the critics with his play.

A common misconception. They adjust the line to smooth things out, but they can’t move it enough to totally balance things without creating a set of much worse problems for themselves, and in any event unbalanced betting on a particular game isn’t actually a problem, per se. Sure, in an ideal world the books would like to see balanced action and just take their percentage, but a majority of games (in the NFL, at least, and I assume most other sports) receive action that’s unbalanced past the point that the books are guaranteed a win.

And like I said, that’s ok. Think of it like roulette. When a casino spins a roulette wheel, it’s basically never going to be a guaranteed win for the house. They might win money or they might lose money on a given spin, but they don’t care about that because every spin has a negative expected value for the bettor, so the house gains equity with each spin, and so in a very real sense the house makes money no matter what.

It’s the same deal with sports betting: as long as they’re satisfied that the line isn’t super-exploitable by sharp bettors (i.e. that it’s pretty close to true), the house generally doesn’t mind so much that the betting is unbalanced, since it’s as likely to help them as hurt them. Thanks to the vigorish, they gain equity either way.

Not cool. Not only was Henry far more talented than that murderer, he wasn’t a murderer, despite his arrests. If Slim was alive today the Bengals offense would be nigh on unstoppable.

Also: Hah, ha, tom Brady, whoop whoop, tom Brady, failure tom Brady…
Did anyone else notice he is getting a bald spot on the back of his head? Say it ain’t so, Bieber!

Damn, you guys suck. Where are all the NFL fans? Oh right…a Chicago based board, they lost (badly), and the Green Bay fans are embarrassed to crow over a win against the fucking Lions. Got it.

I think Brady’s new post-game interview look suits him.

All anyone remembers about the 2002 NBA Playoffs is the Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and the Kings, a great 7-game series marred by the “rigged” Game 6. LA’s subsequent sweep of the Nets, to the extent that it’s remembered, is known only as one of the least interesting or competitive NBA Finals in recent memory.

Good Lord, what’s up with that haircut?

LOL.

I was the only guy picking the Raiders?

Speaking of which, has there ever been an 11:35pm EST Sunday Night kickoff time before? I can’t remember ever having seen that.

More relevantly, has Thursday Night Football ever kicked off at 11:35pm on a Sunday before?

Maybe I don’t get what you’re saying. I thought that you meant that the super late game last night replaced next Thursday’s game but I checked and there is a Bears/Giants game scheduled for Thursday so I’m not sure what you meant by that.

ESPN just said the Browns are in talks to trade Gordon to the 49ers. Yes, good idea, get rid of the youngest guy on your team who’s going to be a top player at his position.

Why on Earth would the Browns trade Gordon? I wonder what they are expecting to get in return?

I think it’s just a joke. The NFL Network called it a special presentation of Thursday Night Football.

I interpreted that to mean that they discussed it, past tense, but couldn’t agree on terms and now unlikely to happen.

I just wanted Brady’s streak to last long enough to take the record from Drew Brees

o well he can start again next week

Still, it shows that they were still trying to shop him even though he basically is the only element that gets their offense running. Because Lombardi hates the kid.

Yeah, well if he had caught that ball Thursday, Hoyer would still be healthy!
