NFL Week 5

I heard the Browns were asking for a 2nd Rouder for Gordon which the 49ers likely will have two of come the draft.

Damnit, I think the Falcons are done for the season. I just don’t see us even fighting back for a wild card spot at this point.

I know a few folks beat the spread this week but somehow I managed to pick everyone who didn’t. I want to this a gift but I’m not really feeling it.

Yes, that. I was mocking the NFLs terminology.

10-6 is probably enough. 9-7 could do it. You play the Bucs and Panthers twice, and should beat them both times. The Cardinals, Bills, Packers, and Skins are all winnable games. Beat them, and if you can win one from the Saints, 49ers, or Seahawks, you’re in.

Thanks for trying to console me, but at 1-4, with two of those losses at home, makes getting to even 9-7 look like an awfully big climb. But hey, I’m in the Jacksonville TV market, and we are no where near as bad as those guys.

Speaking of Jax, the current Vegas line against Denver is 28. That’s tied for the largest in NFL history. What’s the odds of Denver covering?

I think Peyton Manning could fart for 4 TDs against Jacksonville. Dunno if the Denver D can keep the Jags from scoring, and that’s a huge spread, but I would not be surprised to see Denver cover it.

I bet Denver will be up 42-3 or something like that by late in the 3rd quarter, by which time they’ll be pulling starters, and Jacksonville will grab a couple of cheap TDs late, and Denver will win 42-17 and not cover.

At halftime of the first round Sunday I was 8-0-1 and thought I might go 14-0. Ha! Barely broke .500. The Raiders? The Jets? Really?

In addition to Denver, Seattle is giving 13.5 at home against Tennessee.

Let me preface this by saying I think Julio Jones is a helluva football player. But back in 2010, I thought it was a mistake for the Falcons, who were Super Bowl contenders, to trade up for another offensive weapon when it was their defense that was holding them back from getting to the Super Bowl. Even now, I think the Falcons may have missed their window of contention by giving away the farm for Jones, when their defense and offensive lines were their biggest concerns. That defense would have been so much better, and their odds of winning a championship were better, had they not gone for the shiny new WR. Imagine how much better their defense would have been with Aldon Smith. Or with Muhammed Wilkerson, Rahim Moore, Buster Skrine, Jared Crick, and/or Harrison Smith. Wouldn’t the Falcons have had a better shot at the title with Phillip Taylor, Randall Cobb, Julius Thomas, Harrison Smith, and George Iloka?

Looks like Julio Jones may be done for the year with a foot injury. He’s getting second opinion, but things don’t look good for him.

No.

Thanks for the insightful input.

Meaning, you can pry my Iloka from my cold, black and orange striped hands.
