NFL Week 6

And now down 20-7. I really, really wish I could actually watch this damn game.

Man do I hate when a defensive lineman is about to lay out a QB for a sack, and then pulls back and raises his arms and bumps the QB to avoid a ticky tacky penalty, but then the QB manages to escape and then make a big play out of it.

Hillis is out either because he got hurt (not mentioned) or as part of his ongoing feud with the coaching staff. Montario Hardesty cannot catch a football to save his life.

Bring on Armond Smith!

I know that.

Whoosh.

What happened to Jason Campbell, and what the hell was I thinking when I started him in the dynasty league?

He got a tit broken or something when someone grabbed at his chest.

For some reason they’re letting Boller pass when nothing good can come from that and they can run at will anyway.

No mention of any Hillis injury yet. There’ve been some media incidents with the contract dispute and fuck my life if they’re benching Hillis for that.

Oh well, pathetic all around.

NFL.com says hamstring injury for Hillis.

We could discuss outliers and skew, or the fact that the Steelers defense has been much, much better since that game, but I’ll concede the argument. Let’s check back at the end of the year, shall we?

Yeah, he’s back in. There’s some speculation his agent is telling him to play games by exaggerating injuries to prove how much he’s needed.

I was right about the 2010 Browns being way better than the 2011 ones even though this year they got off to a 2-1 start by beating terrible teams. This is just a clusterfuck. It’s just demoralizing when you’re down by 10 with 20 minutes left to go in the game and you’re pretty much sure it’s over anyway. Oh well.

Incidentally, why does every coach need to just completely clean house every time they come in? Cleveland had the best special teams in the league in all phases of special teams every year for quite a few years now - but apparently the ST coach had to get axed when the new guy came in, because you know, hey, why keep doing the only thing you do well.

Well, massive special teams failures all over the place today.

Amazingly Colt actually had a chance to redeem himself down by 7 with a minute to go, and he just did what he always did, throw 3 yard checkdowns. The funny thing is that the other teams know exactly what’s coming, so they double or triple cover the receivers that are within 3 yards of the line of scrimmage. Anyone running an intermediate route would be single coverage, but the odds that Colt will actually bother to throw those routes combined with the odds he gets it within 5 yards of his receivers make it an academic threat if anything.

Here’s a better stat for analyzing team defenses, IMO.

San Fran has a great defense. San Fran is the sort of team anybody should fear playing in the playoffs. Their run game and defense make them dangerous, especially if Alex Smith continues his 2011 form.

Right now, San Fran is looking like one of the best teams in the league.

The Rams biggest loss this preseason was Pat Shurmur. How the hell do you put up 425 yards of offense and only come away with 3 pts?

Take him back.

That is a weird stat.

Incidentally I’m hoping the Rams are the team that ends up with the #1 overall pick so they’re willing to deal Luck. The Browns have 2 first rounders. Make it happen.

Tough loss for the Saints. Brees had 3 int, and Tampa’s D throttled the run all game long…other than Ingram’s 10 yard TD run. Payton is scheduled for surgery tomorrow–I don’t know exactly what his injury was, but it must be pretty bad. He was unable to leave the locker room after halftime.

I heard a fractured tibia and a torn MCL.

Did anybody not think the Patriots would win the game on that last drive?

I realize Romo has sometimes blown games in the 4th quarter, but I hate that uber-conservative play calling on the Cowboys second to last drive. You have the choice of winning the game against the Patriots’ defense (with 2 first downs), or against their offense. There was way too much time for a couple obvious clock-running plays to matter. You choose to beat their defense.

I don’t know. I’m hesitant to believe in the 49ers, but their most impressive stat is 1: the number of games they have played against the NFC West.

Their other wins are @Cincinnati (4-2 in your division), @Philly, @Detroit (5-1), and 1st place Tampa Bay (by 45).

The Vikings are playing like they don’t want McNabb to be their QB. Two drops already in the first four(?) attempts.

Nice blitz on McNabb by the Bears getting a safety. DT Paea barreled through the Viking’s line. Forte’s running with authority, too.
