NFL Week 8

Aaron Rodgers is amazing. I might take him as my QB over any QB in the history of the game.

Beating non-blustery post-lap band Rex Ryan isn’t any less satisfying than beating him back when he was talking mad shit. Love it!

I begin to wonder if griffin3 has a career ahead him. Will he be ever plagued by that gimpy knee? Was that play-off game this past January the biggest mistake of his life?

I don’t think RGIII’s woes as a passer are the result of his injury as much as it is teams adjusting to the Redskins’ offense and RGIII’s style of play. One thing I love about the NFL is the constant adjustments between offense and defense and then back again, and back again. Sustaining success in the NFL is difficult, and we don’t know if RGIII will be able to sustain his early success yet. Part of it is health, but part of it is also whether or not a player is good enough to adjust his game and continue to improve instead of relying on just his athleticism. I do think RGIII will make those adjustments and will get healthier, and may become a franchise QB, but early results this year aren’t encouraging.

He desperately needs an offensive line that can keep him from taking a weekly pummeling like he did yesterday. No one can sustain that kind of a beating w/o a drastic reduction in proficiency and career longevity.

You were complaining about his noodle arm and how AJ Green was propping him up just last week (or at least that’s how your post read.)

Meh. What’s surprising about the Redskins’ passing game isn’t that it’s ineffective this year, but how effective it was last year. Their receiving corps was Pierre Garcon and a whole bunch of “who?”, and Garcon missed most of the season.

RGIII doesn’t really rely on his athleticism too much. Most of the hits he takes are in the pocket. What he does is hold the ball too damn long, and he doesn’t have the size of a Cam Newton or even an Aaron Rogers to absorb the pounding.

It’s also worth noting that it was the other knee that RGIII injured yesterday.

The Packers-Steelers Super Bowl had this same situation. Luckily for the Packers the Steelers didn’t even get past midfield, but there was plenty of time left (2:07) for what turned out to be Pittsburgh’s final drive, certainly a lot more than what Dallas left Detroit.

The Thanksgiving Day Packers-Lions game should be a fun one.

Yes, and I’ve seen Detroit’s defense, too. I was wrong on the winner, but still would have made money! Spread was -3.

Eh, I was mostly joking. It’s a huge argument amongst Bengals fans whom constantly want to relive 2005 with Carson Palmer. I don’t think Dalton has a particularly strong arm, but he is a leader and a decent enough QB to be a consistent winner, and when you have that coupled to a good surrounding cast with decent balance like the Bengals have then you can’t really ask for much more than that, especially because the truly elite QB’s are a pretty rare breed.

I don’t know. I think if I were a Bengals fan I’d want to be done with Dalton. Without doing a thorough check, I kind of doubt he ranks in the top half of NFL QBs. Granted, the only Bengals game I watched a good portion of was his stinker against the Browns.

The impression I got from the two Washington Professional Football Team games I watched last year and my brief reading was that the passing game was successful not because of RGIII’s amazing ability it was because he wasn’t asked to do much in the passing game and the read/option throws he made were mostly high percentage/quick read throws. He wasn’t out there flinging the ball all over the field like Andrew Luck or Matt Stafford, he was out there running the read/option very well and only occasionally throwing the ball.

Then he got injured. And this year, he’s not running the ball as much and he’s being asked to be a much more of a pocket passer and that transition isn’t going all that well. He’s electric when he can run, make quick, easy throws, or buy time with his legs and fling it ala Tebow; but now that he can’t/they don’t want him to, he’s struggling.

I think much of his success last hear was due to his phenomenal athleticism and now that he can’t/isn’t relying on it as much, his performance is suffering. This isn’t even close to the end for him, but he’s being asked to be a different kind of QB than last year and it hasn’t been working very all. It still may, and he still could be great, but he hasn’t been so far.

In his last three games, he’s 69/104 for 1,034 yards and 11 TD’s and 2 INT’s. That’s not too shabby.

He is getting better, at least in part because the Bengals offensive line is starting to pass protect really well.

His first td pass to Nelson was one of the most incredible throws ive ever seen. I have never seen a more accurate pass.

Then you’d be crazy. The Bengals are built around a strong defense, a strong running game, and the occasional deep chuck to AJ Green. Dalton’s only in his third year in the league. At the same point in his career Drew Brees was playing so poorly San Diego drafted Philip Rivers #4 overall (well, traded with the Giants for him). Or, if you want another comparison, Dalton’s numbers through 8 games project out almost exactly identical to Peyton’s in his third season (4400 yards, 33 TDs, 15 picks) except that Dalton has a higher completion percentage and yards per attempt.

Drew Dalton, Andy Brees, Peyton Dalton, Andy Manning…

Dalton’s stats are also so much better than those of Aaron Rodgers in his first three years in the league.

I’ll tell you what. I’d be willing to bet that Dalton comes nowhere near the career of Manning or Brees or Rodgers. You can pick the measures, stats, length of time from now, and the stakes for the bet and I’ll be there.

Manning had to carry his team. Dalton has a solid O Line, a stud WR, nice secondary targets, and a nice running game. He’s not carrying anything.

I think that’s only partly true. In Manning’s case, he never really had a defense backing him up that’s on the level of what the bengals are fielding right now, but he certainly has had the benefit of elite level talent at the WR, TE and RB positions along with an excellent offensive line.

Manning had Edgerrin James, the league’s leading rusher, and Marvin Harrison, its leading receiver. That’s not the point, though. I’m not saying Dalton is Manning or Brees - just that anyone who thinks they need to jack him in is stupid.

LOL, yes indeed. Of corse, last week’s was so lame that it has to be an improvement.

Not terrible, but not great. I thought they’d spend more time on Bradford’s TD, but what they did with it was good.
