See, I knew it – they lost when I watched, and won when I didn’t. But now I’m conflicted, because I really want to watch, but I can’t bear it if Boston wins.
HELP!

HELP!
Hmm… Maybe I should take a little road trip this weekend…
Blues win!!!
And so do the Checkers in the Calder Cup Finals.
Anyone else see Woody Harrelson and Michael J Fox sitting happily together at the game?
Just…watch the game, ok? I’ve had that, too, thinking I’m jinxing my favoured team by watching them lose - or not watching them as they win, and have actually skipped watching following games because of such goofy superstition. Which is what it is.
Break that spell by watching the Blues win!
Thanks, PVR, for not - for some reason - recording tonight’s fucking game.
GO BLUES
Well, I’ll do it the next game – but if they lose, I won’t watch game 7!!! I am mega-superstitious when it comes to sports.
(If this was my Pens, I’d be there to the bitter, end, of course)
About the ‘missed’ penalty call that lead to Perron’s goal, too bad Boston.
That was at least the third time these playoffs that a team got burned because they stopped playing when they thought the whistle was going be blown. Yeah it sucks if someone gets hurt but if you don’t have control of the puck you are likely not getting a stoppage. If you think it is a penalty and the refs don’t, you are not getting a whistle.
I know that waiting for a whistle burned the Stars earlier in the playoff. Let this be a lesson, play hard until you actually hear the whistle, you may save yourself a goal against.
Were you watching a tape of game 4 or something? In game 5, the Bruins outplayed St Louis the vast majority of the game, and the shots, scoring chances, and goalpost-hits all agree with that.
Anyway, if this is the way the games are called now, is it too late to sign the Hanson Brothers for the last couple games?
Bruins should come out for game 6 wearing 2002 Sacramento Kings jerseys. After the “Yes the puck was clearly in the netting but we can’t review the goal two seconds later because reasons” game, I’m already envisioning overtime game 7: a perfect feed to Marchand on the back post who knocks it home. As the Bruins start celebrating, the Blues skate off and one of them disgustedly sends the puck the length of the ice into the now empty Boston net. Officials start making crazy signs and after a long delay the scoreboard changes from 4-3 to 3-4. They then explain in completely neutral tones that no officials saw the puck cross the St. Louis goal line and there was no whistle on the play so the puck was still live when St. Louis scored. Furthermore, because the game ended with the St Louis goal, by rule the prior play in the St Louis end cannot be reviewed. Goal, St. Louis. The league promises to suspend the officials involved the remainder of the playoffs.
Then those are poor indices, IMO. It was clear to me that St. Louis was in control of the game the vast majority of the time. My cites are a) the fact that St. Louis never trailed Boston and 2) the fact that St. Louis won the game, in Boston.
Sadly I was working my ass off for the first two periods…
My Pizzeria and the adjacent three story Bar (ITap) were PACKED to the gills…
St Louis is gonna explode Sunday night !!!
Potential deciding game tonight. This morning I googled “who are the current Stanley Cup Champions” to read Washington Capitals one more time.
I hope there is a different answer tomorrow, ideally with the Blues winning as the result of a non-call on a blatant penalty.
[nitpick]
Game 6 is tomorrow, not today
[/nitpick]
nvm, confused NBA and NHL finals.
FTR, Game 5 of the NBA Finals is also not today; that game takes place Monday.
And the Charlotte Checkers have won the Calder Cup!
Nixon would be proud.
I’ve got a blue shirt on; that’s the best I can do. Come on, St. Louis!
There are about 14 minutes left in the 2nd period, and what I’ve seen from St. Louis the past 4 minutes makes me ask: is this game fixed?
St. Louis has been declining to play offense. If they get the puck, one or two guys go down ice and then dump it to the Bruins. Then they retreat to their zone and wait for the Bruins.
I’ve seen this before in hockey and it always makes me think the game is fixed.
If the Blues don’t win tonight, they won’t win a game 7.
Blues seem to be about half a step behind the Bruins tonight, but Rask has been damn lucky a couple of times. That shot on the power play that bounced off the post and then rolled off his back but didn’t go in? Are you kidding me?
