I generally don’t have a problem with the complaining, but in this case I found it unwarranted, at least for the moment. There’s a huge fucking sign that says we’ll be lagging for at least a week while things are put in order, so shouldn’t people give it a week before they start bitching?

I see in another thread that someone is enthused that the SDMB will not have the 3:30 to 4:30 shutdown. I think they may have been misled.
From what I understand, with the new server, the SDMB will be open 24 hours - but not in a row !!!

Also, have you noticed that after they got our hard-earned money, the Board’s performance has become worse? I have it on good authority that to save money, they went to an even sleazier service than the lousy one they previously used. Their current webhost - “Supersonic Cyber Systems” - is, in reality, located at Hank’s Garage, Biker Bar and Tattoo Emporium".

Considering that they announced the planned outage, and it’s been going lightening fast since the upgrade that led to that outage, yes, yes it is too soon to bitch.

Screaming fast huh? Well, it’s pretty fast now, but it usually is late in the evening. Earlier today I really couldn’t even get on except a couple times, after very long periods of watching the beach ball spin. I can’t rule out something funky on my end, but other sites loaded fine. Plus today didn’t become yesterday, and yesterday tomorrow…

Yes, I did insinuate that Gwyneth and Cecil were romping about Hawaii with our hard-earned money for this alleged “upgrade”. No doubt, Ms Paltrow is making the “talk show circuit” (Good Morning America, for one) in order to allay suspicions of economic malfeasance at the SDMB. No doubt that after her talk show tour she’ll be back in Hawaii with Cecil and they’ll be laughing about how they pulled the wool over our eyes once again.

They also got me by giving me a miserable cold for a couple of days that, combined with the lashings of Ivan-rain we’re now getting, has kept me home. Home. With a computer. With NO SDMB!! There’s only so many times you can read the Broadway chat boards, ya know.
Ya know what would be nice when this happens? Since straightdope.com doesn’t seem to go down when the boards do, how about putting a message up on sd.com’s website? If there’s an ETA for when the board’ll be back up, put it. If no ETA, just say that too.
