I just noticed that if one of your tabs is playing sound, the tab at the top displays a little speaker icon. No more frantic hunting when a tab starts playing a video automatically.
I want that. Now. On every browser.
You have me curious.
What kind of site will start playing music if you are not doing something on that site?
You have 10 + sites open & have been on just the SDMB for #0 minutes and a tab site will start playing?
Splain me please.
If you don’t have an ad blocker, ads are a big culprit bu even with an ad blocker, some sites will load a video and start it for you. weather.com comes to mind. Also comedy central’s videos will often auto start.
OK, I understand that.

But, ( just knew that was coming didn’t ya? ) If the page was fully loaded when you left it, where did the new add come from?
You have not even looked at that page much less done anything to bring up new material.
Is that a news feed thing, the pages auto update?
Sorry I am being so dense about this, but I have never had this happen to me but then again, I do not leave a lot of pages open when I won’t be using them but once or twice a day.
Unfortunately, I usually have 20 or more tabs open. No room for it to display the icon.
One way this happens if you have a Bing video search page loaded. Bing will play a preview, complete with sound, if you hover the cursor over some of the videos. Sometimes, I have multiple tabs open, and one of them is such a page. I switch between tabs to find something, but pressing control-tab. I land on the Bing page. I control-tab on to the next tab, without really thinking about what was on the previous one. Bing, in the background, noticed the cursor location, and starts loading the preview. A few seconds later, I get audio.
I’m switching to Chrome. That is all
Some pages have videos in the sidebar that autoplay. It takes a minute, and if you’ve scrolled down and switched to another tab, it can be a real pain to find it.
OK, Thanks, I get it now.
