Night Court reboot (potential spoilers once the series is launched)

John Larroquette also had a dramatic role in The Practice as a psychopath, a role for which he won an Emmy.

Absolutely. I was hoping that his character, Joey Herrick, would go up against Alan Shore, either in The Practice or in Boston Legal. Instead, they had him play another character on Boston Legal. What a waste.

Anyone else still watching? I feel like it is getting better.

They brought in the actress that plays the basement ghost on Ghosts tonight as a janitor.

We’ve been watching since the beginning. It’s a pretty amusing show. The bailiff has gotten a bit more toned down from the beginning and they are leaning into the wackiness of all the characters. I really enjoyed the one where they run court in the subway train.

So we finally meet the fiance. He seems like a nice guy so I’m not sure what will lead to the inevitable breakup. She can’t stay in a long-distance relationship forever, and I don’t see them getting married and he becoming a regular character.

I lost interest during that idiotic episode with the kids. Maybe I’ll try again next season.

They could get married and Rand could become an occasional character, seen only once in awhile. Most people’s spouses don’t drop by their workplace every day.

But I suspect (and fear) that they are going to break them up, and go further with Neil’s crush on Abby, which is weird and inappropriate. If they have to pair up two characters I would prefer it be Neil and Olivia, the prosecutor. They were kind of funny in the episode when they were pretending to be a couple.

For solving problems, there’s always death!

I want to embroider that on a pillow.

I’ve been meaning to bump this thread.
I’m liking the show. It’s an easy watch and not all that deep, but that’s really all I need out of it.

I also love Olivia’s mid atlantic accent. When she gets going, it’s like listening to a young Katherine Hepburn.

Do we think Abby and Neil are going end up together? They’re clearly making Abby more and more frustrated with Rand not being around. I hope they go somewhere with this crush he has on her. He was pretty infatuated with her from the first episode. If they don’t have a plan to either have them end up together (soon) or for some kind of change that will stop Neil from fixating on her (ie he finds someone else), it’s either going to get old or get creepy.
It reminds me of Screech and Lisa Turtle. If Saved By The Bell came out today instead of 30 years ago, I don’t think the viewers would be all that comfortable with Screech’s behavior towards Lisa.

…and I suppose I should have finished the episode before I posted that, as Abby just found out about Neil’s feelings for her. I guess something’s going to happen there.

I only saw Saved by the Bell back when it aired, some 30 years ago or so. Screech was obsessed with Lisa, but was he stalking her or doing anything other than repeatedly telling her he liked her?

He went over the top a few times, though mostly in a “this is tv, you can’t actually do this” way. Watching a few clips, Lisa seemed to react to most of it with a chuckle because him asking her out and her turning him down was their joke.
Maybe it was fine for the show, like you, I bet it’s been at least 10 years since I watched it when I got my daughter into it, and another 20 since the time before that.

And, it’s happened more recently as well. Carly, from iCarly, had Nevel who was even worse than Screech. Not only was he constantly asking her out and constantly getting turned down, he went a step further and actively, consistently, sabotaged her web show throughout the series. And why did he do that? Because she refused to kiss him. I’ve never understood why there was never any uproar about that. It seems so bizarrely inappropriate. I sometimes feel like I’m the only person that noticed it.
Beyond that, iCarly is one of the more entertaining shows your kid(s) can get hooked on. I always liked it.

First episode of the second season. Still stupid.

Yeah, that was really, really, really awful.

Maybe he’ll be poisoned sealing wedding invitation envelopes.

What happened to Neil?

I replied to some Facebook post promoting the reboot to the effect of, “They aimed for the quirky comedy of the original and badly missed!”

Which garnered a  from John Larroquette. :sunglasses:

I decided that I hate this show.
However, I’ve been watching the old one and it still holds up. It’s not even as politically incorrect as I recall, or maybe we haven’t gotten to those episodes yet.

You’re not the only one:
