Nip/Tuck 06.29.04

It appears I’m going to have to be the one to start the weekly howuzzit threads. I’ll be happy to take one for the team, so to speak, but know that for some reason, the user name “Dogzilla” is a thread killer. Happens all the time.

So. Last night’s episode of Nip/Tuck. Probably two major highlights for me:

• What kind of freak would attempt to do a nose job on himself? Egad. That was even more grotesque than the boil lancing surgery in the beginning. (Blech.)

• It’s kind of cool, to me, how the theme of the episode trickles to every story line. This week’s theme was trust. The surgeons had to decide if they trusted each other. Sean’s freaky-looking (Michael Jackson, post-surgery lookalike) son had to decide if he trusted his friend and Sean. Everyone was questioning each other’s trust. Kinda neat.

What did you think? (To both of the other Dopers who watch this show.)

I was seriously almost unable to watch Christian’s self-rhinoplasty. I watched Nip/Tuck spottily last season and missed the premiere this time around, but I’m of the opinion that Christian Troy is one of the more fascinating characters on any current show. And despite his hunkiness, I agree completely with Gina’s assessment that he is a truly hideous man. I’m reminded of Jason Patric’s character in Your Friends and Neighbors.

I may be callous and insensitive, but I have little to no sympathy for Matt’s friend in prison. I do want to find out how all that’s going to play out.

Can you–or the other two Dopers who watch–fill me in a little more on Sean’s tremor? How it started, what he’s done about it, that sort of thing.

That self-rhinoplasty was just painful to watch. OWWW!!

As for the ‘yips’, Sean just started getting them in the season premiere. It’s all psychological, so basically the stress is getting to him. It does seem that will trusting Christian and admitting his mistakes and trying to tell Matt that he can too, will take a lot of that stress out.

You know, just when you think Christian is a prick, he redeems himself like the end of the episode.

Should be interesting to see if Matt is charged with the hit-and-run by the cops. His “NO” was unconvincing, especially seeing how he had to wait before saying it.

The impression I got was that this was an extreme example of how Christian could trust no one but himself, especially after he was (justifiably) castrated by the plastic surgeon he consulted. Also, at least to me, the scene highlighted that he considered his looks his only mainstay, and the lengths he would go to preserve them.

The show is a bit soap opera-ish, and even my wife said, “Enough with Christian’s bare butt already!” but I admit I’m hooked.

I was sure that Christian was going to pass out while doing his self-rhinoplasty and make the break even worse than it was.

The “Now you are as ugly on the outside as you are on the inside” line was completely wrong. Even with a broken nose Christian is smokin’ hot - not at all ugly.

I was hoping for a little more closure on last week’s shooting but they did at least let us know she did kill the guy.

jlsmith, what I got out of that statement (and I drool over Julian McMahon as much as you do  ) was that she now find his physical appearance as repellent as his personality. Though, I had to laugh, because she’s been in this for the ride ever since she got pregnant.

I was really hoping Matt was going to cave after Sean gave him that speech, and tell him “Yeah, dad, I did this…I’m sorry…” but then… I could just see the thought going through his head of how his friend looked in jail, what he said they were doing to him. And did I hallucinate, or was someone gettin some personal attention under the next table?

My wife and I were both cringing during the self-performed nose job (my wife really wants to get one - this may have put her off the procedure for good).

And we were both thinking that there wasn’t enough shots of Christian’s ass…funny how that works out sometimes.

Yeah, I saw the personal attention going on under the next table. And enough of that Christian’s bare ass. When are we going to see some female nudity?

It wasn’t true - but Gina hit him right where it would hurt the most, it was a perfectly targetted insult (which is what she was trying for).

The ass on the model at the very beginning of the episode was in plain sight. And it was a damn fine sight, too.

Wow…My mom actually had a nightmare caused by Christian’s nose. And this is a woman who watches forensic shows, without the slightest hesitation.
I gotta admit, it was hard to watch. I wonder what Christian’s ‘midlife’ crisis is going to be like. And Matt is heading for a world of trouble…

You are absolutely right. I hadn’t looked at it like that. Thanks!

I missed the under the table action, I may have to watch this episode again to pick that up.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but your wife is either a lesbian or a pathological liar.

Hello, I’m joining the party a bit late. I didn’t see the second episode until Sunday night, so I was a bit behind.

I love this show. Hubby and I are both addicted. Unfortunately, we only caught parts of last season, so we are trying to find a place that will rent the Season 1 DVDs.

Also, we missed the first part of the second episode. We tuned in right before they started working on the boil. What did we miss? Did they say anything about the shooting from last week?

I also saw the “personal attention,” and kept snickering every time the guard said “No touching.” Hubby missed it though.

IMHO, the reason Nip/Tuck shows so much male nudity is because there is already so much of the female variety. Audiences have almost become accustomed to it. Showing a man’s butt is raunchy and pushing the envelope, while showing a woman’s is not so much.

I can’t wait until tonight’s episode!

This thread isn’t dead yet?

Good grief.

Someone else may have to start the new one for tonight’s episode. For some reason, the internet filter at work has magically stopped allowing me access to SDMB. And, try as I might, I simply cannot spin a business reason good enough to go fight city hall and get access!

I’ll check after work, but hopefully someone else will start one long before that.
