This episode really impressed me. It dealt with a subject that I believe deserves more exposure: female circumcision. Check that. Mutilation. The writers did an excellent job of addressing the emotional and physical pain that these women have to endure, just to be considered women worthy of marriage in their culture.
Roma Maffia’s character Liz Cruz just flat out rocks. She was easily the best part of the show this week.
And YAY!! for Julia finally standing up to her mother. Talk about a bitter hateful bitch!
Gina obviously has a lot more going on than sexual addiction; I kept thinking bipolar. But I don’t really know what kind of chance Christian has of getting custody of Wilbur. No matter how psycho Gina is.
I missed the first 15 minutes - I didn’t understand what they were doing - did they amputate one of her toes to make into a clitoris? Or part of a toe? Did they explain what the procedure was going to be?
Awesome episode. And about time she stood up to her mother, too.
From the previews for the next episode(s), it looks as if Wilbur’s real father is going to get involved… I believe a clip showed him talking with Julian. Maybe he will see how nuts mommy is and side with Julian.
Hmm, I wonder if that guy really is Wilbur’s biological father. I can’t imagine what incentive he would have to lie about it (maybe Gina’s blackmailing him or something), but I could see Gina roping in the nearest black man just to screw Christian. I hope Christian presses for a paternity test, and that the guy doesn’t weasel out of it somehow…
I also agree with liiroguet that maybe Her Baby Daddy will side with Christian…that would be cool…no way is that woman fit to have custody of a child!
I don’t know about the whole Julia/Christian thing, though. I kinda thought all of that was resolved at the end of last season, at least on Julia’s part. Maybe it’s just me, but that love triangle is o-l-d. Sean may not be a prince, but I think the guy deserves a break.
I love this show but each week I keep thinking, man, they are totally going to get this show off the air!
Liz does rock. The toe surgery.replacement portion was amazing and (shudders) realistic. I love the way the Drs look like mechanics at the end of the examining bed when she comes back for a followup after being with Dr. Troy. Their utter confusion as to why she was not responding to their touch was hilarious and added to their characters humanity.
Whoa and that switcheroo with Christian and Julia threw me for a loop until my husband monotoned, “Its a dream sequence”. Damn!
Weeee… that was fun ending. We should have something interesting with Julia. Especially now she wants to get involved raising the child (and maybe comforting Christian if he loses her). Wonder how that will play out. The paternity hearing should be interesting, with all of Christian’s past ready to be exposed and the ‘real father’ (or is he) get involved.
While I was watching the teaser for next week, I kept wondering “Why is Kimber’s nose bleeding?” I mean, is she really so strung out (all the coke they showed her snorting) that she doesn’t even know she’s bleeding? And would she really be a credible witness?
Maybe Christian tried to bribe her with coke? Don’t talk at the hearing and I’ll get you coke? ::shrug::
I taped it because I had to watch Amazing Race, but I did flip back and forth during commercials.
Best line of the night, “Let’s go build a clitoris.”
Had I started this thread, I would have named it that. If you can use “clitoris” in a thread title… {glances hopefully at mods}
Woah. Did we get the kinder gentler Nip/Tuck this week?
That was my favorite part of the whole ep. And the way they skittered out of there when Liz asked them if she could have a moment!
I appreciate the way they dealt with the whole genital mutilation thing. They showed the horror of it without going all Lifetime Network about it.
I knew something was up right at the very beginning of that–I said to myself, “Hey, Sean must have gotten butt implants or something!” Pretty sad that I can ID those two by their heinies.
I’m looking forward to seeing what develops with the Matt/Cara situation.
And in other news, I had to go in for an endoscopy today, which requires general anesthesia. The anesthisiologist remarked that I looked exceptionally nervous. I confessed that I was so nervous because from the promos for next week’s episode of Nip/Tuck, it appears that a patient dies on the table from the anasthesia.
I gotta wonder what this show does to real plastic surgeons’ business…
