No candles

Recently my wife was driving somewhat agressively, causing me to remark that I am too young to die. Mid-twenties stepson from the back-seat: “Actually, Isosleepy, they don’t hold candlelight vigils for 50 year old guys”
I knew this, I guess. I mean the notion didn’t surprise me. But it was a touch harsh to be confronted with the fact that my dying past a certain age is really not that sad an affair. I guess with wrinkles comes dispensibility. Unless you’re a mom or Robin Williams.

Man that was harsh!! He was in the car as well. You shoulda told him, Smart Alec 20 somethings don’t get much in the way of vigils either.

I think your stepson was probably referencing a Louis CK bit about no candlelight vigils for 50-year-old fat guys. (Yuk, yuk. Never cared for Louis CK.) Still, I think candlelight vigils are more about the circumstances than the age. People are more likely to hold candlelight vigils for a young person who got shot than a young person who OD’d.

So he’s a plagiarist to boot. Gonna be a cold, skinny Christmas for him…
