Sepinwall says it was Poehler and Martha Plimpton. I’d been flipping channels and was all excited when I saw Plimpton go on the stage. I’m all “Yay for Raising Hope!”, but no.
I like Julie Bowen and her dress was gorgeous, but she’s too skinny for something so low cut. Too bony!
Something was planned (thus the roses and crown), and I’m sure Poelher was involved, since it was essential she start things off, and she probably arranged for the names to be called in the order they were (it wasn’t alphabetical, as is usually the case).
But it wasn’t completely planned – Edie Falco is clearly asking her husband if she should do it before running up, and Rob Lowe is completely surprised at Poehler standing there.
Love that Juliana Marguiles, Peter Dinklage, and Jim Parsons won! At least Martha Plimpton was nominated - Love Raising Hope.
I am so over “Modern Family”. It’s good but just not THAT great, imho. and I am so sick of that pseudo-documentary-Office-style filming style.
Jane Lynch had some good lines, but she just was nowhere near as good as Jimmy Fallon’s wonderful turn last year.
I thought with Cranston sitting out it would finally be HUGH LAURIE’s year… when is the man going to get some damn respect? (He really deserved it most for his performance in rehab, though… )
Thank you so much. I tried really, really hard to watch that steaming pile of crap, but I couldn’t. It was gorgeous, but unwatchable. The whole premise was so horrendously bad… why would I care about a fucking idiot woman who apparently has no internal moral compass of any kind and has spawned a monster she should have drowned at birth but instead caters to constantly, thereby increasing the monstrosity? Where in there is there something for me to sympathize with, care about, or be entertained by?
I believe that’s what’s known as [Jon Lovitz] Acting![/Jon Lovitz]
Overall I found this one of the most entertaining award shows ever.
I haven’t seen the last several seasons of Entourage, but when we flipped back to the Emmys from [some other channel] and the cast was standing there, my wife said “wait- is that - Turtle!?!? He’s, well, HOT!” Looks like he lost about 50lbs.
This is what happens when remakes go bad. The original starred Joan Crawford, and was watchable, but Winslet seemed to be sleepwalking throughout this turkey. I would have cheerfully killed the actress playing the daughter: what a ham. It seems like they felt that they had to give her this because a) she’s a terrific actress and b) she’s won Golden Globes and an Oscar, so she must be deserving, regardless of how lame the role was.
I may have forgotten to add that I found the rendition of Leonard Cohen’s wonderful song “Hallelujah” was cheesy & disrespectful. I may be the only one who feels this way, but wow, was that poorly done.
I cannot believe Steve Carrell didn’t win. He’s been amazing as Michael Scott for the past seven seasons, running the gamut from zany humor to subtle pathos, and this should’ve been his year. (Has he ever won for this role at all?) Who are the producers of Modern Family sleeping with?!
Jon Hamm was brilliant this year as well. Did Friday Night Lights get the “we’re sorry you’re cancelled” slot?
Glad Downton Abbey and Maggie Smith won. Though I disgree completely with y’all about Winslet’s performance. I thought she was marvellous in a very difficult role that treads the line between sympathetic and creepy. Other than its slow pace, I really enjoyed Mildred, and this is coming from someone who adores the Joan Crawford version and who thought it was a bad idea to revisit the story.
