No Glee 4/27 thread?

Worst. Fieldtrip. EVER.

The moment Quinn called Mercedes beautiful I said to my fiancée, “Fuck, they’re going to play that damn song.”

And they did.

I didn’t. Granted, I’m neither gay nor a teenager but I saw a guy who tried to emotionally manipulate his father so he might get to hook up with someone (who doesn’t like him in that way anyway). Then he whines and bitches that his father isn’t supportive enough when the guy’s been nothing but. Remember the big scary coming-out reveal?

“I’m gay.”
“I know. It’s not what I’d have picked but I’ve known for ages and I love you. you’re my son.”

Oh no! He likes talking about football and not about moisturizer! Let’s try to make him feel like shit for it and act like he doesn’t love me enough! After I used his emotions following eight years of singlehood just so I could try to score with a straight dude!

I can either think the plot was ridiculous or I can think the emo-gay-teen character of Kurt is a fairly repulsive person. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt by choosing the former.

I loved the episode. It was set up much more like an actual play than an episode. The musical arrangement of “One Less Bell To Answer” was fantastic. “Beautiful” still sucked, though. Kids do behave just like Kurt, emotionally manipulating their parents for their own purposes - what seems like a good idea at the time becomes less of one after it plays out. And what kid doesn’t sometimes feel like their parents don’t love them enough?

I’m not saying it’s unrealistic, I’m saying I didn’t at all feel for him.

Except maybe disgust.

And the ham-handedness of it in the last couple of episodes. Yes, please, beat me over the head with the idea that the boys could learn to be more sensitive and that we’re all “Beautiful.” Because no show about teenagers has ever done that storyline before. I’d hoped Glee could keep the cliches to a minimum.

Glee? Keep cliches to a minimum? We must be watching a different show. Mean cheerleaders and jocks. Wimpy outcast choir kids. Struggling, earnest teacher. Impotent administration. Of course, Glee starts with cliche, then twists. Struggling, earnest teacher blackmails jock into joining choir. Evil cheer coach puts “handicapable” student on cheer squad.

StG

Then promptly proceeds to give “handicapable” student an eating disorder like the other girls.

I have to admit, I love that they kept “Becky” on the Cheerios. She could very easily have been a throwaway plot object for the episode she debuted in, but I don’t think these writers really think like that.

You…you didn’t recognize any of those songs? At all?

I feel so old right now…
Please tell me you are only, say, 15? Please? Make an old lady happy?

Could be Californialand or whatever Disney calls that abomination.

I loved the episode – in part, because, for a change, I knew most of the songs. (And why’d they stop in the middle of “Fire,” skipping the up-tempo section?) Also liked the various stories. Much better than last week, which I found utterly uninteresting.

+100

Stories sucked. Songs sucked. Bad episode.

Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come.

Eh, I could do without the “message” episodes, too, but if this was “bad” Glee, it’s still more entertaining than most television.

Favorite parts:

April greeting Will, over the mic at the roller rink: “Will Shuester? I just had a sex dream about you!”

April and Will singing Fire.

Finn’s mom: No, you were conceived on top of a pinball machine.

Sue: I’m going to send notice to the state that I will no longer be carrying ID. You know why? Everybody should know who I am.

Sue: You might try dropping the attitude. I’m sure there’s a pound or two in that.

Britney and Santana snuggling during Kurt’s song in the choir room.

Mercedes hallucinating everyone as junk food, just like in the cartoons!

April and Will’s song at Will’s place.

The journalist to Sue: “…and the fact that twice you called me Re-run makes me think that you’re a little racist.”

April: "…and then he died!"

Basically any scene with Chenowith.

So does anyone know who the actor was who played Tracey Pendergast, the Splits reporter?

I didn’t recognize a single one of the songs aside from “Beautiful.” I’m twenty-six.

Lame episode, I thought. The only thing I like about the show is the music, and since I had never heard of nor liked any of the songs, I was pretty bored.

I kept wondering if I missed an episode somewhere. When did Kurt and Mercedes even join the Cheerios? That’s a pretty big deal.
What was up with Jesse St. James constantly hanging out with the Glee kids? Aren’t they all suspicious and distrustful of him? Doesn’t he have his own school to go to, with his own glee club, which he’s supposed to be the star of?
Were these things explained at any time?

I just watched this on Hulu right now. I liked it. Yeah, it was sappy and had an afterschool special vibe to it, but I didn’t think it was that bad. Didn’t care much for the songs, but I tend to like the more upbeat songs anyway. After Mercedes got on the Cheerios, it was only a matter of time before they addressed her weight and at least this way it pushed Sue’s story along as well. This seemed like a set-up for even more interesting storylines in the future.

Kurt and Finn’s story felt very real to me and I loved it. Sure, Kurt is being a selfish jackass, but I like that they’re making him so flawed. His reactions seems very in character for an overly dramatic teenager who feels like he’s losing the only other parent he has. Just consider that he went from daydreaming about a huge family where everyone loves him to maybe losing the #1 son spot in his dad’s eyes. It’s a tough break and I hope his character grows from it.

Quinn does seem kind of displaced in the last few episodes. Plus, they still haven’t explained where she’s living right now. I feel like she’s just floating around the halls of McKinley High like a ghost.

Last episode.

Kurt and Mercedes joined the Cheerios because they were tired of not getting enough of the spotlight.

Jesse joined New Directions last episode also. No one but Rachel wanted him to join.

Was this the Madonna episode?
I think I really did miss something…
