I kept worrying that Mahaloth gave me away with the new deadline of 6:45pm EST instead of 3pm. 6:45pm EST corresponds with 7:45am in Beijing which was enough time to wake up at 7am, check the scum board, look at the kill, and agree with it. Within 30 minutes Mahaloth started the Day. There’s no way I can check the scum board at 3pm (4am here) so there has to be a delay. I was just glad no one meta-gamed in that way and figured it out.
In the future, it would be good to give strict time frames and keep with them. I understand the desire to move things along quickly, but it needs to be balanced so that it isn’t connected too much to player actions.
It wouldn’t prove it. But a vote charger power is quite powerful for scum, while it’s more reasonable for town.
It’s a disadvantage for the Town, relative to an open setup. The flip side of it is that in a closed setup you can have more town powers and more powerful town powers and keep the game balanced.
Why? Seems like Cookies is a gimme. Given the outcome of the Day, there is no way Cookies is Scum. Also, she’s really, really good in these endgame situations. Like, crazy good.
It’s going to be Astral, Chronos, and Plankton in the endgame. I am totally unspoiled, and am making my official temporary guess:
Good point. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I guess I was assuming scum would kill somebody else and leave the game on Cookies’s shoulders. I’m not sure that’s functionally any different from killing Cookies and leaving the game on somebody else’s shoulders. Just that we unspoiled watchers would all know that Cookies is making the game-winning or game-losing decision. I’m a sucker for narrative I guess. (And if the remaining scum knows that Cookies is “crazy good” at the end game, that could make a difference. I wouldn’t have known that.)
I am having a tough time getting a lean either way on Chronos or SP. I have a slight town lean towards Astral, but I couldn’t point to any evidence to support that. Just a gut feeling (which means he’s probably SCUM!)
Yep. No way Cookies is ever alive in three-way end game. She flat out wins those games when she’s town. In fact if she is alive in a three way ending she’s probably Scum!
Mahaloth, why are you shortening the Days so much? A 24-hour day in a situation of three-man Mafia is an enormous advantage to Scum. It gives absolutely no time for the kind of careful analysis that the two Townies should be making in this situation; it just forces them to make a random hopeful guess, indistinguishable from what the Scum would be doing.
I rather agree with this. I’ve been scum a lot lately in short-phase games (which is fine, if you like that sort of thing, which I do) and pretty much every single time the mod had to extend a day from 24 to 48 hours for some or another reason, it worked out very badly for us (or for another scum team). This game was designed for long phases and for fairness should probably remain so.
Yeah. Same applies more or less equally to Suburban from Astral’s PoV. If Chronos actually IS town, I feel a bit sorry for him, because he’s going to die anyway.
