I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’m something of a political junkie. I’m almost more excited about this election than I was about the Canadian one - which I was actually working on.
I can’t bear the thought of not watching the election coverage tonight - which, for someone with no TV, is a pretty big deal.
I pointedly asked all my friends who have televisions what they were doing tonight until someone invited me over to watch it.
Am I the only one outside of America who will be glued to the set until the wee hours of the morning?
(And yes, I’m planning follow-up trips to my friends’ TVs to watch the inevitable recounting and disputing and feces-flinging and so on.)
Well, I’m going to be flogging makeup - hopefully I’ll be home just in time to see how it turns out (assuming it’s not a repeat of 2000, for the love of Og.)
Unfortunately the timing is all wrong for us in the UK - so nothing unusual chez owl and waking up tomorrow to find out if it’s the shaved chimp or the long faced moomin with american hair.
Well from the House of Grey, my wife will head out to yoga; I’ll put the kids through the bath/book/bed routine and then grab my LSAT prep-book. I’ll likely then split my attention between the election and my studying all the while making rude noises to the TV commentary.
Once my wife gets home, we’ll watch a movie. I’m really not expecting an earth shattering change from this election.
I’ll be watching the coverage, but since I don’t have the cable nor the satellite, there’s only one channel doing it, and only from 23:15 to 1:15, Paris time (there’s also something on the franco-german channel, but it’s broadcasted way too early for any result to be known). Which is quite weird, since we’ve been lately inundated with specials and documentaries about the USA during the last weeks (way more than for previous american elections). For some reason, they seem to have thought that the US elections were a big deal only until the day before they took place.
Looking more closely, I just noticed there were one hour long news around 4 am on antother channel, which will be most probably dedicaced to the elections. But I might be sleeping by this time.
Today I overheard two old manx geezers talking about the election. This is a good example of how much intrest worldwide there is in the election because they were the type of guys youd expect to be talking about fishing or rain.
If I wasn’t working tomorrow I’d be watching it.
this would need a separate thrtead - but suffice it to say i have come to recognise a combination of american hair and a thin wife as a very bad thing indeed
Tonight I’m going to dance class, and then coming home and eating dinner with my husband. Afterwards he’s probably going to read aloud to me. Nice and peaceful.
I, for one, will be watching Gilmore Girls with my friend Maria over a quiche.
Or omelettes. I haven’t decided yet. The quiche will be easier to make, you see, but the omelettes will allow for numerous side dishes, like fried potatoes, bacon, and biscuits. The quiche will contain two of those side dishes (bacon and something made of dough) already, which limits what I can serve with it. Plus I can put avocado in the omelettes. But then, quiche seems more “dinner-like”, and I always have trouble getting the omelette out of the pan in one piece anyway . . . .
(Funny thing: at 6:00 this morning, standing sans coffee in a long, long line full of grumpy voters, I wasn’t having NEARLY this much trouble making a decision . . . )
This non-American will be biting her nails, glued most likely to the net, but just possibly to the television (which I don’t normally watch, and which might well be dead of old age)…
(I though Auntie Em’s plan sounded a good one though. Hungry now.
All go vote! All take nice coffee and sandwiches with you!
I will be participating in a workshop with as many fabulous transgendered, genderqueer, and trans-positive people as can be crammed into a boardroom. I regard this as the only sane thing to be doing under the circumstance.
It’s Tuesday, which is pub trivia night for me. The American election will likely be on one of the TVs in the bar, so I might glance at it during breaks from our game; but otherwise, I’ll be busy playing trivia.
While the American husband is home before/after/between work appointments, I’ll be listening to him yell at tv commentators. While he’s out, I’ll probably watch Discovery channel or something.
