Norbit

Saw that movie today. Reluctantly, i might add.

I thought it was pretty good, although it could have been much better.

And Eddie Murphy was indeed one of the highlights, along with Jennifer Hudson (both her acting and her singing).

I’m afraid i’m with the general consensus about Norbit. The whole “people in fat suits are funny” thing just seems lame to me. And Trunk, i fully appreciate the comedic value of people playing multiple roles. If Eddie Murphy played multiple roles in a movie that i found appealing, i’d go and see it. But this movie just does not look in any way appealing to me.

And, just for the record, i haven’t seen “Talladega Nights,” “Evan Almighty,” or “Nacho Libre.” I like some rap; i dislike other rap. I’m not a huge basketball fan.

No, those movies look pretty foul, too.

Amen, chloie. Amen.

Nope, there are MUCH worse ones out there…

Manos; Hands of Fate
Red Zone Cuba
Hobgoblins

and other MST3K’ed Experiments

that said, Norbit holds no appeal for me, and i LIKE Eddie Murphy movies

I, too, think the commercials look terrible, but I’ve been mislead by commercials in the past. It is important to note that the movie is being released in the middle of February. A movie is only released in the dead of winter if the studio has no hopes of it’s success.

If I’m in a vegetative state and it was being played on broadcast television and the channel was already on, I’d close my eyes. Damn, now I’ve gone and gotten myself terrified. If such a situation were to arise, I’d still have to HEAR the stupid movie. Uh oh.

I just thought it’s sad that when Murphy was getting such great reviews for Dreamgirls and seemed to be on the verge of restoring his career that he had a movie like Norbit waiting for release.

People WANTED to see Talladega Nights? Really? On purpose?

I ripped Talladega Nights big time when the previews came out. And then it was shown during a flight I was on, and sure enough, it was every bit as horrible as I had expected.

Nacho Libre was absolute garbage.

I haven’t seen the trailers for Norbit, so I will take everyone’s word on how bad it is. But I must ask, can it really be worse than this ? I’m afraid not even my future husband Will Patton can save this clunker.

Who knows?

Why would you think The Cleaner looks so bad? Cedric the Entertainer is a pretty funny guy. Besides having his own TV show, being in Kings of Comedy, and his own HBO specials, he was pretty funny in a Coen brother’s movie.

I guess people must think that there’s just all these unfunny people out there who get their own stand-up special on HBO. Couldn’t possibly be that they just don’t get that brand of humor.

From your IMDB link, I noticed one of the writers of the Cleaner wrote the screenplay for Midnight Run, as well as Bad Boys, and The Whole Ten Yards.

The director made Encino Man, Flubber, and Blue Streak. . .not what I think of as comedy classics, but a step up from Master of Disguise.

As someone else in this thread said. . .the main indication of the possible weakness of these movies is a January/February release. That’s where movies go to die silently. Doesn’t bode well for the new Hannibal movie.

Well, no. In my opinion it is just that they are not funny.
ETA: I know Cedric has his own TV show, but so does Jim Belushi. There ya go.

Abby you can see the trailer here www.meetnorbit.com. You should watch it I think its really funny. It comes out this weekend and I will more than likely be watching it. I love the cast they are all pretty funny!

No thanks. I’ve lived life as a morbidly obese person; it’s nowhere near as funny as other folks seem to think.

I think he’s a pandering ass.

VCNJ~

I’m sure the movie sucks, but the “guy in drag in a fat suit” thing always cracks me up. I thought the make-up was excellent from what I saw on the commercials. I won’t be spending money on it, either in the theater or on DVD, but damn it, cheap laugh or not, I get a kick out of it!

That is the SOLE criterion by which to judge an attempt at humor.

That simple fact seems lost on a lot of people.
