I’d like to get to SLO in the afternoon, since it seems that’s when everyone else is going. I wonder though, when should those of us staying at the Madonna Inn get there? Do they know who are staying? What do ah doooo? :).
Also, i’m up for a little somethin’ somethin’ on friday. Perhaps we could meet at the mission or something and go on from there (or even the lobby of the Madonna Inn)? There could also be an informal dinner thing on friday, for those coming in at that time. What do you all think?
Woodstock, you ol’ softy. I think my best case scenario is to be at my apartment, ready to go by 6:00. Would that work for ya?
I’m rather keen on getting there on Friday night instead of Saturday afternoon. I want to make the most of the weekend.
That being said, if Woody can’t wait for me, it would be the simplest of tasks to find myself in Fremont on Saturday morning, Rasa.
Ok, I’m going to try to do some of that organizizing stuff they talk about. Look out for some emails from me people (that is if I can get this kick-and-play computer to cooperate).
Check in time at the Madonna is 4pm. I expect to be there by then. If I’m not, they have a list of everybodies names. (ValerieBlaise, I put your last name as Blaise, don’t know if that’s right or not ) They said they will let anybody on that list check in before me, but you will have to put down a credit card for incidentals, and then we can switch it back to me when I get there. Once one person is checked in, everybody else who is on the list can pick up keys at the front desk. The room is called “Pick & Shovel.”
I don’t anticipate this being a problem. I’m going to do my darnedest to be there earlier in the day.
I spent my afternoon with my handy-dandy AAA tourbook looking up stuff to do today.
SLO
The Mission - built in 1772, now a parish church, museum, gardens, officially free, but they request a small donation.
Edna Valley Vineyard - guided tours at noon on Friday, every hour from 11-4 Sat-Sun, no price listed.
Apple Farm - working reproduction of a 19th century millhouse, 14 foot water wheel that powers an ice cream maker and cider press. Admission free, there are tours, but I don’t know if they cost something.
Cambria
Shamel County Park and Leffingwell Landing - both day-use parks with tidepools and vantage points for viewing sea otters and sea lions.
Tri-tip sammiches - I’m gonna get me one.
Morro Bay
MB Museum of Natural History - A/V presentations, dioramas about animals and marine life, nature walks, trails to scenic viewpoints, $2.
Sub-Sea Tours/Harbor Cruise - two different companies do this - one is a 45 minute sealife thing, not sure if it’s a glass-bottom boat or what, the other is an hour long harbor cruise out to Morro Rock and along the embarcadero. $12.50 or $10.
Checking in! I am way excited, this is going to be awesome. On the convoy situation: I would like to either get a ride with someone, or drive someone. Unlike Obfus, I do not want to drive for hours alone. I live the furthest north of almost everyone going, and would be happy to pick people up on my way south, if anyone between Petaluma and SLO is still looking for a ride. Of if anyone still has room in their car, I’d be happy to chip in for gas money.
My flight gets in to SLO at 1:00 on Friday afternoon. I think Pat is going to meet me, and we talked about hitting the castle then (since I can’t do it on Sunday). I think we would still be back in town by late afternoon, in time to meet up with everyone as they trickle in.
And hell YEAH we’re going to party Friday night. Come on, Valerie will be there! Between the two of us, we’ll do our damndest to get everyone liquored up and having fun.
And Demo, I’m so glad you and psy are coming on Friday!!
Ok, so my best buddy in the whole world (this week) has offered to pick me up at 6:00 on Friday so we can make our way down to SLO Friday night, with the idea of staying drunk until late Sunday afternoon.
I’d just like to say that this little soire seems to be shaping up to be a completely out-of-hand melee, filled with wanton alcohol, and who knows what else, consumption, flirting, sexual tension and animal abuse.
Are any folks going to be just goofing around downtown on Saturday afternoon? I should be getting to SLO around 2:00pm.
Man, that town is booked! I’ll have to drive back to Santa Cruz after dinner, as there’s not a room to be had in SLO, Paso Robles, Atascadero, or Morro Bay.
Purd, the big dinner will be saturday night at 5 p.m. I will probably be wandering around with the others. I will have my cellphone with me, if you want to get ahold of me and find out where everyone is, just call me. E-mail me if you want my number.
Purd Werfect, it appears that I have an open space in my room. You can crash there if you wish.
I’m also bringing an inflatable mattress–queen size, I believe. The main reason is that I don’t care to snuggle up with any of you guys (sorry), but it can also be used in the event of extra people needing a place to sleep.
IIRC, we’ve got some extra room at the hotel and the rates, for the couch sleepers and such, are C-H-E-A-P cheap! Check back on the last page, there was a reference to it.
Ok, so this just in. Crack’dOff might be joining us–he expressed interest when I saw him yesterday. And I’m trying to convince a friend of mine that is living in San Diego to come too. So maybe 2 more!
I think we’re leaving Fremont (picking up zyzz there) around 11 am Saturday morning. I have Mercutio’s cell phone number, and he has mine–I’ll call when we start getting close!
Totally weird. Yesterday there was not a thing available. Today, the first place I checked, (which was sold out yesterday) had like ten rooms available. Anyway, I have a room.
Strainger, thanks for the offer! I appreciate it, but I just gotta have my own room when it comes to sleeping. I’m odd that way.
No way I could miss this. Not only are tons of my favorite people going to be there, but we’re getting some premium imports like Valerie and boli! Yay!
