Excuse me, excuse me. I’d like to second this!
Ooh, sorry, kai, for insulting a favourite. I wouldn’t have minded so much if it had seemed like there was any enthusiasm, or even a slight desire to sing. It was very depressing.
Tomorrow is baking and laundry and Dad’s birthday celebration. He turned 75 today. We’re going out for dinner with my parents and some other relations. Seventy-five. I’m twenty-seven. I still have trouble believing it.
It’ll be maybe eight loaves of bread day tomorrow. I think I’ll have some pre-bed creme brulee.
Hey, no insult taken li-li, it takes a whole lot more than that to insult me! Everyone has an opinion, just like everyone has…well, you know! To tell you the truth, that chorus in particular, along with others both in the same genre as well as bluegrass/gospel type songs are the kind I prefer to sing by myself, usually out in the garden.
However, you never did explain to me about all the husbands…
I want neither a gay boyfriend nor a gay wife. If you’ve got a nice female girlfriend for me, however, we’re in business.
FCM, The Jax Zoo is, in fact, great. We only got to see a small part of it, but from what I did see it looked great. If I can do something in Jacksonville next summer I’ll hopefully see a lot more of it.
Howdy everybody! Today I was BUSY, BUSY, BUSY at work. I got to post this morning to say hello, and during my lunch I peaked in here and took a look around.
This week promises to be extremely busy; both with work and home life.
Daughter’s friend arrives from the midwest this Wednesday. Hubby is still all kinds of bothered by it; frankly, I’m relaxing…but only very, very slightly. He will be staying at a hotel in a town a few miles from here. The rules for his visit have been repeated ad infinitum and we haven’t received any guff. We’ll have him to dinner during the week and take him out on the boat this Saturday. We’ll also let him stay for the BBQ and stuff. I don’t want to be mean, but we don’t know him. We’ll see how it goes.
Additionally, my sister, who lives in Beaverton, OR is coming up for the weekend. We’re all going to play on the boat on Saturday and then come back to our place to BBQ. We’ll turn it into a birthday celebration for my Dad. His birthday is this Wednesday. After the eating and yakking, we’ll break out the cards and play some 99.
My mother is having a lumpectomy next week. They’re also going to remove the sentinel (?) node. After the lumpectomy, they’ll insert a sac in her breast and fill it with radiation, twice a day for 5 days. After that, she’ll be done. The good news is that the tumor appears to be only five milimeters in size. Hopefully, it hasn’t done any sort of spreading.
Of course, there are now all sorts of rumblings about having myself and my other sister checked out. In other words, we have been told we should go get our boobies smashed. Yeah, yeah…I’ll get to it.
I don’t want a wife. I just want a housekeeper and cook. She needs be big, warm, friendly, and not at all attractive.
I’m a heathen. Well, not really, but I don’t attend church. I attended a non-denominational church as a kid and teenager. When I was really little, I attended Catholic church. I was baptized Catholic, but I guess since I never went through First Communion, I’m not really Catholic.
I kind of liked the smell of Catholic churches though. The incense and candles always smell good to me. I guess they remind me of when I was little and lived in Germany.
As an adult, I’ve only gone to church to attend weddings or funerals.
It’s only my personal opinion, but I don’t think going to church makes one a Christian. What makes one a Christian is goodness in the heart, treating others well and fairly, doing good for the sake of doing helping someone or a good cause, etc. There are opportunities to do these things in our everyday lives. I try to be a good person. I haven’t always succeeded, but for the most part, I think I do alright.
Amen! Preach it, sister!
How did it get to be morning so soon? I’ve had breakfast and am trying to come to grips with being awake. And I need to go bump my Michigan Dopefest thread…
GT
Quit being a big baby and do it!!
Seriously - you know it’s the right thing to do. It’s not the most pleasant of experiences, but it’s not that terrible, either. Criminy, I’ve been getting smooshed yearly since 1994. Now pick up that phone and make an appointment. Sheesh.
Yep, I’m at work. I’ll be heading across the street for my training class in a little bit. Oh joy oh rapture oh excitement… :o ← That’s a yawn.
Have a great day, one and all!
I love the show Northern Exposure. I have the first three seasons on DVD and need to get the fourth.
The braces are okay - I had some bottom teeth shifting around, which apparently is common when you :::cough::: get older, and they should be coming off by December. I had them when I was a kid, so this makes twice. Not quite fair, IMO.
I’ve been around the firemen for a long time, as my husband’s been a volunteer
for 20 years, and I joined last year and took EMT. I didn’t think I’d take Fire 1, but it’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve gotten a lot of encouragement. The class should have a variety of people in it, but the majority will be young guys. Since I’m married, all I can do is look at them on the sly.
I agree with Taters. Unfortunately, I generally fail miserably at the being good part. On the plus side, I did not bite a co-worker’s head off yesterday when she asked me for the umpteenth time if I knew how to do something. That, plus spending time in airports, equals less time in purgatory.
gt and kaiwik, have you read any Kathleen Norris or Annie Dillard? I think you might like them.
I’m up! It’s early! In a few minutes I will eat a civilized tea-brioche-lemon-curd breakfast and then start making bread dough. Exciting.
Well, I’m off to the orthopedist about my possible carpal tunnel. It has occurred to me that even if I’m diagnosed with it, I will probably not be getting any sort of relief before my vacation (which, by the way, starts in a mere ten days ), which is a pain in the ass, but I guess one can’t have everything
At least I get out of work for a couple hours, huh?
Oh, I just found my explanation. Here it it:
Lazy Husband mentioned that he would like to be upgraded to Slushy-Drinking Husband, but i like his old title better, and I’m The Wife, so I have final say.
I actually had the balls to show up at the fire department meeting last night to turn in a letter of introduction (the beginning of the application process). The fire Sunday morning was mentioned once or twice in passing, but I wasn’t razzed about it like I thought I’d be. Had a lovely evening watching them pressure test firehose. :snooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrre:
Depending on who I talked to, I was either a shoo-in, or I might have to wait a bit because they have a full roster and a tight budget. Turn out equipment is about $1500, and they don’t have any more on hand…
You unchurched heathens! So you think doing good and treating others as you’d like to be treated and loving your neighbors as yourselves and generally following the teachings of Christ makes you Christian do ya! Well… you’re right! I just happen to also like going to church. Even though gettin’ this new building built is part of what may be the death of me. A sage piece of advise: Do not agree to serve on a church Vestry, Board, what have you, during a building campaign.
Taters go get that boob smash. We need to make sure you’re with us for a long, long time, m’kay? Prayers and good thoughts headed out to TatersMom.
Happy Birthday to LiLiDad and TatersDad!
I get to go to a visitation/wake tonight. A co-worker’s grandmother died. She’d been in hospice for several weeks, so no big surprise but still sad. From what I’ve been told, she slipped into a coma and went peacefully.
I started this post an hour ago but got interrupted. The burglar alarm folks called and said the alarm was going off in the front building, so I dutifully went to check it out. Two of my co-workers were there and couldn’t get the alarm to turn off. They were using the right code and everything but the dang thing would not shut off! So, we got it to shut off finally and had to call the alarm folks back to say everything’s ok, which means I had to go play twenty questions over the phone. Never a dull moment around here.
Mornin’ all!
I’m like Taters these days, ('cept for the boob smashing stuff…) BUSY BUSY BUSY at work. Ran around most of yesterday visiting schools with the bus contractor that does some routes for us, then went straight to registration night at one of the junior high schools. Basically I sit there with copies of routes, maps, lists of kids and informational stuff…families come in, get their kid’s schedule, sign up for booster clubs, get gym clothes and see what bus they ride. We have 11 elementary schools, 4 jr. highs that do this every year, so we split this up among the staff for any school that wants us - I take the bulk, because I think if I’m The Bus Guy, it makes a difference to people if they talk to me.
Today, is Day Dos at this school, then an elementary school Wednesday night, then nothing til Monday.
I HATE STUPID PEOPLE!!!
I sent some letters, about 21 in all, to our district office by interschool mail to be mailed. We do this without putting postage on them, because they meter them at the office before sending them out. Guess what? They came back. Some moron mail guy for the district didn’t check to see if they had postage on them first. And they ask for people to reply to me by the 18th, but they won’t even get them in their mailboxes til tomorrow at the soonest.
Idiots.
Heathen entering the premises. Good morning, all!
Jack Chick would plotz!
I am in no mood to do anything. Course that’s just too bad cause I gotta. But… I DON JUAN BE HERE!!!
In that case…
strolls back and forth, singing Hindu religious songs and lighting incense
Has he plotz’ed yet? No? Fine. I can keep going!
Janine Turner’s family was on the horse next to ours at Six Flags, Arlington, on July 4th. Lordies, Lordies, still hot in her 40s! Bright red hair and a mesmerizing smile.
Thanks for the link.
Mornin’!
Man, y’all are some busy people! Same ol’, same ol’ here… I got nothin’. I prefer to get my thrills from your lives instead.
Oh, one bit of news. They hired a new designer, and I just met him. I hope he’s good! Seems nice. I’m not fond of the last new guy, but I’ve learned to tolerate him. I’m such an old grumpus.
