This is a movie that has been out a while, but I forgot how much I enjoyed it, and how funny it really is. They did a masterful job of blending scenes in from all the famous 80’s John Hughes’ movies, as well as the other movies from the 90’s.
I’m curious as to what your favorite scene was.
Mine has to be the take off of Rudy. I really didn’t pick up the reference until recently, when both movies were on the cable movie channels at the same time. The kid in NATM even wore the same number (45) as Rudy. When the kid got tackled in the end zone, I literally laughed out loud. One of my greater cinematic laughs. Totally unexpected. The movie was much better than I ever expected whish is always a nice surprise.
So, what’s your favorite scene and from what movie did they steal it from?
I love this movie! All of the modern “Airplane” wannabe movies stink like hot garbage but somehow this one is actually good. My favorite is the entire running gag about the slow clap.
I’m assuming she was the naked foreign exchange student? Areola?
There were two quick site gags I loved, the bologna falling from the ceiling in the library, and the cafeteria being called the “Anthony Michael Dining Hall.”
I have no illusions that NATM is a quality film, but damned if it’s not one of my all-time favorites. I’m always surprised that Chyler Leigh hasn’t gone on to be more famous; she;'s super hot and displayed some damn good comic timing, IMO. Same with Mia Kirshner, the only “straight man” in the movie.
On the flip side, I have no idea how Samm Levine keeps getting work. He wasn’t funny in F&G and he’s not funny now.
I love pretty much every minute of this movie. I guess my favorite part is the entire Breakfast Club scene, when it’s revealed that with his hair down that one guy actually looked like Judd Nelson. And they even brought back the original teacher. They also got Ferris Bueller’s dad.
Yes, Vincent was Areola. And she was responsible for another sight gag - her bookbag is made of see-through plastic. That wasn’t in the script - it was Vincent’s idea.
She was on a string of TV shows that crashed and burned and got a bit of a reputation as a show-killer for a while there. But she’s stabilized things with her lengthy stay on Grey’s Anatomy, so maybe she’ll start making some noise.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who liked this movie! I love the scene in which that “undercover” old lady and Mia Kerschner spoof the famous makeout scene in Cruel Intentions and play up that little string of saliva at the end.
“What are you doing here?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m supposed to be the only black guy at this party.”
“Oh, damn. Shit.”
“I know, I know.”
“It’s whack.”
