Well, to be fair, Elvisl1ves is a friggin’ imbecile. I disagree with many people on this board, but I have great respect for a number of them. Others don’t get either my scorn or kudos, as is natural. But he’s a dolt of astounding depth. A fact made even worse by his very odd, misplaced high estimation of himself.

The irony of the supposed American apologist schtick is that America is a relatively minor player in all of this. It’s your Europeans who are working themselves into sanctions against your precious Putin and Russia. I’m sure the US will also impose sanctions if Western Europe does, but it’s the Europeans sanctions that will MATTER…especially if Germany goes along, and it seems they are actually looking at that. But you just keep telling yourself that Putin and Russia is in the right here, and that it’s evil America that’s trying to thwart good old Putin and peace loving Russia.

Yeah, he really is no different in this thread than in any of the others. I think the key is that some folks on this board vaguely agree with his (bizarre, often nebulous, contradictory and frankly whacky) points and are willing to put up with his oddball posting style because they do agree. Hell, I tried to agree with him in some of the GW Bush threads, but agreement is often not enough since you always have to dig deeper into what he’s saying (if you can slog through the convoluted phrasing and bizarre theories).
I gave up on him a long time ago when he claimed to be really knowledgable about the Vietnam War and then promptly claimed the US was fighting against the ARVN(South Vietnamese Army) which is a little like saying the British army were allies of the IRA during the Troubles.
I think that NFBW and Steophan (just read the Church/Gay marriage thread) are a sort of Christ-figures, taken all the blame just to unite all the members of the SDMB in a common goal and then declaring (with a British accent and just to the hint of reverb) “See, you can work out your differences; be united my children”.

To the extent he ever says anything - I’m sure if he is called on it, he will claim that context means he never said it, or somebody else said and he agrees with it, even though it’s wrong.
Perhaps he could convince you by quoting all of his earlier posts in that thread (but not using the quote function) and noting the date and time next to the posts. He seems to think that’s his most effective debating technique.

NFBW is more irritating because they pretty much stay on one subject, and they repeat the same goddamned thing days after everyone else is far beyond done with their shit. They’re still trying to frame the great land grab of 2014 as somehow not only legal, but necessitated by some sort of abuse the Russian speaking population was subjected to. It’s a done deal, but there’s no-one who’s buying that justification.
Other maniacs of yesteryear would have spent some time in other threads, on other subjects, or would have moved on to some other insane aspect of the current subject as a pet topic. That’s not happening here. You can’t derail the stupid that is NFBW.
I find him more amusing than anything. Look at the amount of effort he’s expended in trying to prop up his assertion that the Crimea couldn’t secede by the Ukrainian constitution. He built an entire strawman universe around that concept, and when called on it he blithely hand waved it away. Clearly, he hadn’t bothered to actually look it up to see if it was true. When it was pointed out to him that it wasn’t true, he’s spent several pages going through logical contortions that, to him at least, prove he was right all along…while TECHNICALLY it’s true, it would have been very, very hard for the Crimean’s to secede, which of course is what he meant all along! It’s pretty freaking funny, if you ask me.
