NY Dopers: Let's get together

The 2/3/4/5 are not running (though who knows what will happen by Sunday). The F, however, might be the route furthest from the World Trade Center. I took it to Brooklyn yesterday, and when I caught the A back, it was running on the F line from Jay Street to West 4th.

I’d suggest we meet off the F line. I’d be happy to ride down with Rosebud and all of the other upper Manhattanites, if they need someone who knows the F line.

Bill

I would second the F line, or, as an alternative, the Q train to Prospect Park station. Both of those lines are running normally. (The Q runs along Broadway in Manhattan to Canal Street, then cuts over the Manhattan Bridge to DeKalb Avenue and the Brighton Beach line.)

Whichever we choose, I’ll definitely be there!

If most people are taking the F, the usual park entrance is 9th Street at Prospect Park West. This is not far from the Tennis House, located on the Long Meadow. Just north of the Tennis House is the Picnic House.

A proposal: The entrance at 9th Street might be a good place to meet. The Long Meadow is pretty large, so maybe we could narrow it down and say we will be somewhere in the Long Meadow, in the stretch between the Tennis House and the Picnic House. With a pink flamingo on a pole.

The park has a website, http://www.prospectpark.org, that has a map and other information.

I am with you in spirit! I grew up in Park Slope so all I can send are best wishes and directions.

Get off the F at the 7th Avenue station. Depending on the exit you use, you will find yourself either at 9th street/7th Ave, or 9th St/8th Ave. Either way, walk uphill up 9th Street till you reach the park. At the 9th Street entrance there is a bronze bas-relief with benches at the base (I think it might be Lafayette, I don’t really remember). Also a water fountain.

Have fun, everybody. ((((Metropolitan-area Dopers))))

Thanks to everyone for train info and meeting place advice. Delphica’s suggestion sounds perfect. As does Green Bean’s flamingo.

More good news from the work front: I heard that some of the marketing highers-up are scouting out some temporary office space for us. We may go in on Monday, which I think would be great. Of course, I doubt we’ll get too much done, but seeing everyone will be fabulous.

Still keeping my fingers crossed…

I will be with you all in spirit, surely. Raise a glass for me please, and soothe one another…

Cartooniverse

Sorry I have to miss it. I’m slated for some volunteer work after church this Sunday.

That, and Mrs. Dave-Guy, who is distrustful of the Big Bad Apple under the most favorable conditions, would never brook a Brooklyn excursion now.

Somebody eat a aig-salad sammich in my honor, though. I’ll be thinking of alla youse guys.

That sounds very nice, and would be a reason for me to screw up the courage to get off campus.
No promises, but I think that I’ll be there. I’ve never been to Prospect Park, so whatever you choose for a location is fine with me.

bump

And so this post is not completely content-free, should we have a rain plan?

If I could, I would drive up and join you guys.

Have a wonderful time.

Vix, you’ve been in my thoughts since Tuesday morning - I immediately remembered that you worked in the WTC. I am so unbelievably overjoyed to know that you are safe and sound. I want to give you a big hug, but this will work until I’m in Manhattan again: {{{{{Vix}}}}}

Party on, people. And someone eat a brownie for me or something.

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate if we eat a Nacho4Sara?

Believe me, we’ll be raising a glass to all of our Doper-friends who aren’t joining us at the picnic, particularly Alphagene, DreamWorks, and Cartooniverse and any others that have been on duty helping us to recover from this terrible mess.

So, are dogs allowed in that part of the park? Spot the Wonderpup would like to come along.

Dogs are welcomed, but must be leashed. That’s the law anyway. Not many people pay attention to this law. Houseman is a boardmember of The Prospect Park Alliance, so he may fine you. Or he could give you a special dispensation.

And what makes his spot so wonderful?

According to today’s NY Times, Sunday’s weather should be beautiful: “After a chilly start, plentiful sunshine will raise temperatures to near 70 by afternoon as high pressure crests over the Northeast.”

If it is still rainy, though, I’m sure we can find a place.

Here are the tentative and definite attendees so far:

Billdo
Annie X-mas
Biggirl
Pucette
Ukulele Ike
Zebra
Green Bean
Wonko the Sane
Pixellent
slowhand53
delphica
OxyMoron
GilaB
vix

Of course, spouses and kids should come, too. It’s not like there’s a shortage of space in the park.

Thanks for the good wishes from those who can’t make it!

Though I have been pretty reclusive lately, I’ll be coming to this one. I will also have the distinct pleasure of introducing the lovely Nymysys to New York High Dope Society. So don’t forget to bring your parasols, full length gloves, cheap beer, and trashy novels.

Well, since I’m hanging out with Maeglin and Nymysys for the day, I suppose I’m in for a little soiree myself. And since I’ll be the one driving, where is prospect park?

Prospect Park is smack in the middle of Brooklyn. There are driving directions on the http://www.prospectpark.org website, and I can also give you directions if you let me know from what direction you will be coming.

I don’t mind keeping him on a leash. There is also a dog run there in the park somewhere so he can run around for a while. I hope nobody minds having a canine doper around.

And Biggy–it is not that he has a wonderful spot, it is that he is wonderful and his name is Spot. See, “spot” can be a regular noun, and also a proper noun. “Spot” is often used as a name for dogs who have one or more spots. In fact, one of the most famous fictional canines is named Spot! Sometimes Spot is even used as a name for cats, but IMHO, that’s just wrong.

Nonononononono.

Green-Wood CEMETERY is smack in the middle of Brooklyn.

Say, why aren’t we having the picnic THERE?

Uh, Uke? That wasn’t funny.
