NYC Dopefest

Hey Geo…you saw the pics from the last dopefest, right? So a “proper thanking” should be interesting…

But in all seriousness…thanks y’all for organizing this!

Yeah, Falc, I know what I’m getting myself into…I think.

Well, I did 7-1/2 years in the Navy, so if I can handle that, I should be able to handle this crew.

I just called, and it is available.

I’ve had some people point out that, if we hold the Dopefest in Brooklyn rather than Manhattan, we could lose a lot of potential attendees. I understand and appreciate that, and I suggest we consider Eamonn Dorans a back-up spot.
The point of my earlier post was that we should make a decision soon. As delphica has already noted, it’s hard to find private rooms, so we better get cracking.

Aye, aye!

I’ve been doing some checking on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (the island, not the moderator), and have some possibilities, all in the vicinity of 79th and Amsterdam.

For dinner, a very nice resturant Savann has said they’d be willing to do a three-course dinner for us with choice of soup or salad, choice of meat, chicken, fish or pasta, and choice of 2 desserts, for $25 per person (plus tax, tip and drinks). If we’re expecting about 40 people or more, they’ll give us the whole dining room.

Blondies, a sports bar with a private room in back that seats 40-50. It has great Buffalo Wings, as well as good chicken, burgers, etc. The private room is booked on May 12 for a bachelor party at 9:00, but we probably could get it for dinner if we can get out by 8:30 or so. I’m waiting for a call back on pricing, etc.

After dinner, we could go to 4[sub]2[/sub]0 lounge where we could get a private room with a bar, some tables and couches and dance music with a cash bar.

If folks would like to see these places, I’d like to have this Thursday’s NYC Dinner in the area, possibly at Savann, and have drinks at some of the area bars (of which there are many with private rooms).

Savann sounds good!

OK, I just spoke with Blondies. They would let us have the room from 6:00 to 8:30 (and later if the bachelor part scheduled for 9:00 does not confirm). We would be able to order off of their regular dinner menu. They’d bill each table for what they ordered, sort of like the way we had it at Chumleys, but I’m sure they’d be much more friendly.

As those of us who went there a few weeks ago can confirm, Blondies’ chicken wings are superb, and most everything else they have is pretty darn good.

Afterward, we could go to 4[sub]2[/sub]0 or another area bar (of which there are tons, many of which have private rooms). Also, if we really wanted to, we could take the subway down to the Village to go to the Idiot, though I wouldn’t recommend it.

All in all, I think that Blondies would be a great choice for dinner. It would fit our mood and our budget and it’s easy to get to by car or by public transit.

I vote for Blondies, even though the link came up with a “page cannot be displayed” message. I’m sure I’ll be able to find directions eventually.

Let’s have a show of hands, OK? Blondie’s suitable for everyone?

Oh, and a big thanks and a hearty hi-ho Silver to Billdo for doing all this legwork. Splendid job.

Blondie’s works for me…

Hell, anywhere works for me. Just put me on the subway and tell me where to go.

I might have to call off and wait three years. I’m 18… can’t get into bars or anything… and I really, really have to email JeffB about this ride thing. If only my email would let me log in!

Anything on the upper west side works for Pucette and me, of course. Blondies will be fine.

We had two under 21 dopers last time and it wasn’t a problem. We’d just have to be careful about getting to the second bar before they started carding.

So in other words, don’t let that stop ya!!!

I’m up for Blondies.

Thanks for thinking of me, Falcon-baby.

I’ve been balancing my appointment book, and it looks like Jimmy Levine can cover the podium for me at the Metropolitan on the 12th. And the Mets are playing out of town on that evening, so they won’t need me to bat clean-up.

Looks like I may be able to come!

Think you can score me some tix anyway? I’ve been way too poor to go the opera lately.

MR

[sub][sup]Pssst, Maeglin, I’m not sure how to tell you this, but Ike’s at the Metropolitan Museum, the podium he has to cover is one of the little ones the guards stand by when checking that you have your admission tags, and Jimmy Levine is his buddy from Co-op City. Batting clean-up for the Mets is actually going around Shea after the game with one of those pointy sticks and picking up hot dog wrappers. But don’t tell anyone, OK, he doesn’t want anyone to know because it’d mess up the image he’s worked so hard to cultivate on the boards.[/sup][/sub]

I’m always up for seeing flicks and chicken wings.
Count me in for Blondies and Maeglin you or Pucette e;mail me about see a flick. (have you seen Memento?)

Well, sure. What ELSE could I have meant? I’d hate to be thought of as someone who puts out a wrong impression!

[sub][sup]Pssst, Maeglin, pay no attention to Billdo…he’s still pissed that I shut him out for that cool Shea gig; he had to take the back-up job at the Bronx Zoo, shovelling up elephant bowel movements.[/sup][/sub]

Is there any new info?

I’m thinking upgrading my probablity rating, but I was hoping for a location first.

I’m a definite maybe. The Wifestrocity doesn’t believe any of you are real. <cackle>. Me, I would love to.
